Smith's excellent stats masked two killer turnovers that cost the Jets scoring opportunities.

Smith posted excellent raw stats (23-for-30, 287 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT) but made two killer plays that cost the Jets: an INT thrown directly into Dolphins safety Michael Taaffe's chest inside the Miami 20-yard line on the Jets' second series (costing at least a field goal and possibly a TD), and a 12-yard sack on third-and-goal from the Miami 3-yard line while trailing 21-14 (forcing a field goal instead of a potential TD). This marked his second INT in two games after going the first five games without one, despite leading the NFL with 17 INTs last year.
