Teams were put off by his lack of speed – his 40-yard dash was the 37th-best among wide receivers drafted in 2023 – and he fell to the Rams in the fifth round. Nacua's fifth-round draft capital undervalued his elite ball skills and gauntlet drill prowess.

Nacua fell to the Rams in the fifth round of the 2023 draft despite elite ball skills and competitive nature, as teams were put off by his lack of straight-line speed (40-yard dash was 37th-best among 2023 WR draft class). However, he excelled in the combine's gauntlet drill and reached the highest top speed of any receiver who did not miss a catch, demonstrating his value was underestimated.
