Carter's returner role offers field position edge vs. Vikings' weak punt/kickoff coverage.

Carter was signed by the Lions as the top returner following Tom Kennedy's season-ending injury and showed burst in his Week 7 debut against the Packers, looking close to breaking off big returns. Against the Vikings' No. 1-ranked special teams DVOA defense, Carter's field position creation becomes critical; the Vikings rank 29th in net punt yards per attempt (39.26) and 14th in average kickoff return yards allowed (25.23), creating opportunity for Carter to generate short fields and take pressure off the offense against Minnesota's stout defense.
