STACKED’s take
Darnold must navigate Gordon-Simmons pressure combo; eight INTs make ball security critical.
Darnold faces a significant challenge against Chicago's defensive scheme; he must recognize pressure from Jalon Gordon and Jeffery Simmons, who create uncertainty before the snap and collapse the pocket from the interior. Gordon's slot blitzing forces the offense to identify pressure and adjust protection without knowing where the extra rusher will come from, while Simmons can occupy multiple blockers and disrupt the quarterback's platform even when the offense knows his location. Darnold's eight interceptions this season make ball security particularly important, and he cannot afford to force plays against disguised coverage or leave himself exposed to free rushers; quick throws, screens, and well-timed play-action are necessary to punish the aggressive defense, but only if the offense recognizes the pressure and executes protection correctly.
