From the article

Mayer is the Raiders' true tight end since Brock Bowers lines up as a wide receiver more often than he is in-line. I was surprised to see Mayer get an early contract extension right before the regular season given his previous production. However, he's held up his end of the bargain, ranking sixth among tight ends with 31 receptions and ninth with 298 yards.

Mayer ranks 6th in TE receptions (31), 9th in yards; solid blocker.

The tight end is the Raiders' true tight end since Brock Bowers lines up as a wide receiver more often; Mayer ranks sixth among tight ends with 31 receptions and ninth with 298 yards. He's been a great checkdown option for Kirk Cousins (who likes to check the ball down), has scored a touchdown, and is a solid blocker in the running game. He received an early contract extension right before the regular season.
