Yahoo Sports NFL on Anthony Richardson

Richardson remains backup but could see expanded role if Colts evaluate QB position.

Richardson served as the primary backup to Daniel Jones across the first eight weeks of the 2026 NFL season and saw limited action in Week 8 against Jacksonville, completing 2 of 2 pass attempts for 4 yards on 2 carries. Colts coach Shane Steichen declined to commit to Jones as the starting quarterback when asked about his status following the 42-7 loss, stating 'I'm gonna evaluate everything, every position, going forward,' suggesting Richardson could receive more extensive opportunities as the team sits at 2-6.
