It seems inconceivable that a running back drafted sixth overall in 2025 would be relegated to a passing-down role less than halfway through his second NFL season, but that appears to be the fate of the Raiders' Ashton Jeanty. Averaging 3.1 yards per carry going into Week 8, Jeanty was replaced by rookie fourth-round pick Mike Washington Jr. on early downs.

Jeanty demoted to passing-down role after poor rushing efficiency; Washington takes early-down work.

The sixth-overall pick in 2025 has been relegated to a passing-down role less than halfway through his second NFL season, averaging 3.1 yards per carry entering Week 8 before being replaced by rookie Mike Washington Jr. on early downs. Jeanty will retain the pass-catching role, where he excels, but his early-down volume has been usurped by Washington's superior rushing efficiency.
