Leonard projects as a backup quarterback, not a long-term starter solution.

Leonard is still young enough at age 27 to develop into a useful NFL backup, although there is little evidence at this stage that he should be considered a legitimate future starter. His rookie contract expires after 2028, and Goncalves would be open to retaining him as a third quarterback if he continues progressing. A reliable backup capable of operating the offense and occasionally stepping into games has value, but Indianapolis needs to look elsewhere for its long-term answer at quarterback.
