Herbert is a pocket rocket. While he lacks the size and physicality to be a legitimate three-down force, he is a nice change-of-pace option who can also help on passing downs. This is similar to how the Commanders deploy Jeremy McNichols, so it could be a nice like-for-like possibility to consider.

Herbert, a change-of-pace back, could fill McNichols' role for Commanders.

Herbert is a potential acquisition target for the Commanders to address their running back injury crisis. He has been elevated twice from the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad during the 2026 season and is described as a pocket rocket and change-of-pace option who can help on passing downs—similar to how the Commanders deploy McNichols. The source notes he could provide short-term help despite his career trajectory tailing off since his early promise with the Chicago Bears.
