Yahoo Sports NFL on Travis Kelce

Kelce used in coverage-clearing roles; source questions design of third-down play.

Travis Kelce was used in coverage-clearing roles on several plays against Denver. On one play, Kelce ran a 12-yard in route against Quarters coverage in a 2×2 formation, occupying the boundary cornerback and preventing him from turning back to the flat quickly enough. On another third-and-2 play, Kelce ran a corner clearout route as the #3 receiver, which the source criticized as not making sense given that the play was designed for Jalen Royals and Xavier Worthy on whip routes that had no chance against man coverage.
