Penix Jr. had worst game of career; three of four INTs on him due to poor reads.

Penix Jr. had the worst game of his career in Tampa Bay's divisional loss, with three of four interceptions squarely on him due to poor field processing and decision-making. His inability to see linebacker Alex Anzalone on his first two interceptions was perplexing; on the first, Anzalone dropped into coverage and Penix Jr. lofted an errant pass directly into his hands, and on the second, Penix Jr. tried to connect with Jahan Dotson down the seam but threw directly to Anzalone again. On the final interception, Penix Jr. used a pump fake assuming cornerback Zyon McCollum would bite on a fake smoke screen, but McCollum didn't budge and capitalized on the mistake. The source notes Penix Jr. had ugly incompletions because he still doesn't consistently throw the ball well in the intermediate middle area of the field, and while bad weather will limit a quarterback's ability to perform, franchise quarterbacks must prove they can overcome adversity and operate functionally in difficult circumstances—Penix Jr. failed to do that in a big divisional game.
