Washington's lead-back role is uncertain and matchup is brutal; bench him this week.

Washington took over as the team's lead back last week, but the source doesn't know how long that will last. The workload could easily bounce back in the direction of Ashton Jeanty this week if it were all related to Jeanty's quotes about the Jets' run defense. In Weeks 1-7, Washington had a 20.9% snap rate, averaging 6.1 touches and 29.5 total yards. Last week, he played 63.3% of the snaps with 75.8% of the rushing work and an 18.5% route share, finishing with 25 carries and 83 rushing yards. Washington has to run behind the same horrible offensive line that Jeanty does (Raiders rank dead last in yards before contact per attempt at 0.97). Washington has managed a 12.3% explosive run rate and 2.37 yards after contact per attempt. His usage and volume are up in the air this week, but he has a horrible matchup incoming; over their last five games, the 49ers have allowed the lowest explosive run rate, second-lowest yards after contact per attempt, and seventh-lowest missed tackle rate. Washington is best left on the bench.
