Yahoo Sports NFL on J.J. McCarthy

McCarthy elevated to Giants starter; Nagy and Roman's route concepts building his confidence.

McCarthy was named the starter for the Giants' Week 7 game against the Texans after his Week 6 relief appearance, replacing Jameis Winston. The source notes that McCarthy's connection with offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, senior offensive assistant Greg Roman, and passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan has worked out very well in his favor, with the coaching staff setting him up with route concepts and designed openings that gave him confidence despite very few people being excited about those hires in the offseason.
