At the beginning of the season, the assumption was likely that if Murray plays well, he'll be extended. I doubt that is the plan going forward now... It seems unlikely that Murray will be the best option, even with an uptick in performance the rest of the season.

Murray won't be the starter next year; the Vikings are unlikely to extend him despite the season's beginning assumption that an extension would follow strong play. The coaching staff's loss of confidence has longer-term implications. Murray's slow start doesn't bode well for a performance spike in the next two months, which would be necessary to earn an extension. Even with an uptick in performance if he returns as starter, it seems unlikely Murray will be the best option available to the Vikings this offseason.
