Yahoo Sports NFL on Justin Jefferson
From the article
Kyler Murray isn't a fit for the Vikings' passing game. He's thrown a slant, dig or post route— the key patterns to access big plays in Kevin O'Connell's offense — on just 10.4% of his throws. Carson Wentz is at 17.9% this season and 16% last year, which is closer to what Sam Darnold managed in 2024 (17.8%) and Kirk Cousins did in 2022 and 2023 (15.9%). Wentz isn't anyone's idea of a savior but he can execute the offense and find Jefferson. He can do that in a big way against a Bills defense that allows a ton of production to outside receivers.
STACKED’s take
Jefferson predicted as WR1 in Week 9 with Wentz better fitting O'Connell's scheme.
Bryce Young predicts Jefferson as WR1 overall in Week 9. Kyler Murray has thrown slant, dig, or post routes—the key patterns in Kevin O'Connell's offense—on just 10.4% of his throws, the second-lowest rate among NFL QBs. Carson Wentz, who replaced Murray, threw these patterns at 17.9% this season and 16% last year, closer to Sam Darnold's 2024 rate (17.8%) and Kirk Cousins' 2022–2023 rates (15.9%), indicating better alignment with the Vikings' scheme. Jefferson faces a Bills defense allowing significant production to outside receivers. Young notes Jefferson is still elite, incentivized to remind folks of that after last week's frustration, and expects a squeaky-wheel situation on Monday night.
