STACKED’s take
Fifth-round rookie Allen stands out with quick separation and red-zone production.
Fifth-round rookie receiver was the standout performer among the Chiefs' receiver group during Wednesday's first full-team practice. Allen was able to get open quickly for Mahomes against zone coverage on two reps, including one inside the red zone during the 7-on-7 period. Coach Andy Reid praised Allen, saying "Cyrus had a good day. I think Pat's got some trust there. We've got a long way to go, but he's just got to keep going, keep growing. He's got talent and he's been able to retain [information]." Allen is competing for the No. 4 receiver role and demonstrated strong route-running ability, one of his best traits. During Sunday's practice, Allen made a leaping catch in the back of the end zone between two defenders on a pass from Mahomes, which Allen described as "surreal" given his familiarity with Mahomes from playing Madden NFL.
