Second, and more significant, is his backfield situation. Some have dismissed concerns here by pointing to a teammate's huge receiving season elsewhere last year as a one-off outlier driven by a specific quarterback's check-down tendencies, and that comparison is fair on its own. But Tampa Bay's situation carries its own distinct red flags. The team's own front office has explicitly described Irving and his backfield mate as mirroring each other in what they've called a true 1A and 1B committee arrangement, not speculation, but the organization's own words. On top of that, a teammate was already stealing goal-line work from Irving last year, and the new offensive coordinator has a track record elsewhere of giving goal-line carries to a lesser back over an established lead running back. If that happened to a clear, established bell-cow back at his last stop, there's real reason to doubt Irving automatically inherits all the goal-line work in his new offense, especially since he already posted a concerning, low share of red-zone and inside-the-10 touches last year compared to other clear RB1s.
