The Rams have made it clear that Bennett is not the long-term answer. It was an ongoing debate for his first few seasons in the league, but the talk essentially ended the moment Simpson was taken in the first round of this year's draft. That alone signified that the Rams see Simpson as the eventual successor to Matthew Stafford, with the clock ticking on Bennett's time in L.A.

Bennett fighting for backup job as Rams signal Simpson is long-term successor.

Bennett is fighting to win the backup QB job behind Matthew Stafford after the Rams drafted rookie Ty Simpson in the first round, signaling Simpson as the eventual successor. The Rams have made clear Bennett is not the long-term answer; his three-season window to prove himself is closing as Simpson gets up to speed. Bennett must outshine Simpson in training camp and preseason to secure his future in the league, as the clock is ticking on his time in L.A.
