Watson enters the final year of his five-year, fully guaranteed contract... 'I wouldn't rule anything out in terms of the whole quarterback-of-the-future discussion. Ultimately, we're going to play the player who's the most productive on the field.'
STACKED’s take
Watson's 2026 season is final contract year; Browns won't rule out extension if he performs well.
Watson enters the 2026 season in the final year of his five-year, fully guaranteed contract with the Browns. General manager Andrew Berry stated he would not rule out re-signing Watson if he plays well enough this fall, saying 'I wouldn't rule anything out in terms of the whole quarterback-of-the-future discussion. Ultimately, we're going to play the player who's the most productive on the field. I think Deshaun is only 30. There's no need to make any decisions about the future right now.' Owner Jimmy Haslam similarly declined to close the door on Watson's future with the team, noting 'I think there are all kinds of possibilities out there' and that decisions will be made after the season plays out.
