I pretty much started with it last season, and just kind of played that way throughout the whole season... it's different when maybe you're used to being able to catch the ball a little easier. You're having to strain a little more and maybe come up an inch short here or there.

Double sports hernia limited Slayton's 2025 production; now surgically repaired in offseason.
Slayton missed spring practices after offseason surgery for a double sports hernia and acknowledged the injury significantly impacted his 2025 season production. He played through the hernia throughout the entire 2025 season rather than have surgery mid-year, stating: 'I pretty much started with it last season, and just kind of played that way throughout the whole season.' He admitted the hernias had 'a good bit' of impact on his season, noting that the injury affected his ability to catch the ball and move freely, though he emphasized he could have played better regardless.
