Despite concerns about committee usage, Irving averaged 20.3 touches per game in 2025, which qualifies as workhorse usage by modern standards. While Sean Tucker may get goal-line carries and Kenneth Gainwell may play on third-and-long, Gainwell averaged only 6.7 carries per game for the Steelers last year (a career high). Irving has also been a superior pass-catcher: he averaged 1.56 yards per route run in the NFL versus Gainwell's 1.19, and had more receptions in his best college season than Gainwell did against better competition.
