Caleb Williams moved from Tier 3 last year to Tier 2 in Mike Sando's 2026 NFL Quarterback Tiers List compiled from 50 anonymous NFL executives and coaches; 36 voters placed him in Tier 2 with all eight general managers voting Tier 2 while 11 coaches voted Tier 3. Williams had one of the two biggest year-over-year improvements among all quarterbacks ranked. An unnamed executive stated: "I think Caleb's going from a 2 to a possible 1. A couple of plays he made late in the year and then in the playoffs, not many people can make those plays. You saw it get better and better as they progressed." Tier 2 criteria include carrying the team sometimes, handling pure-passing situations in doses, having other dimensions that elevate above Tier 3, though with a hole or two in the game.
