Gunnar Helm fantasy football insight from Hayden Winks - PPR Rankings

Helm was inserted into the inline role next to Chig Okonkwo as a rookie with very mixed results. The 241-pounder lost some battles due to physical limitations and others based on not locking down his assignment. There's room for more weight to be added onto his frame, and the execution should get better over the next couple of years. For now, he's not an asset as a run blocker. Week 5 was his first week playing more than 50% snaps, and from that point on, he averaged 58% snaps per game. That is close to his floor with Okonkwo gone. During that stretch, Helm was holding onto fantasy TE3 life without the underlying advanced metrics to paint a picture for a breakout. His 6.5 yards per target underwhelms, and among 26 TEs who had a catchable ball rate about 80%, Helm's 43% success rate was 4th worst. Helm simply doesn't add much after the catch. Instead, his best moments as a receiver come from making plays away from his frame. There were some impressive sideline and intermediate targets that he was able to corral, especially if the ball wasn't low (where it was more difficult for him to adjust to). Cam Ward can rifle passes in there on crossing routes, and it's possible Helm can have a few more moments on those types of routes as this duo gains experience. In general, Helm doesn't have the physical or statistical profile of a redraft, especially in a Titans offense attempting to get off the ground. Helm is deep-league relevant only. I'd rather take a flier on Dolphins TE Greg Dulcich if looking for the volume hog on a bad offense.
