Fields starts preseason opener; fourth team in four seasons after Jets stint.

Fields signed with the Chiefs as a free agent to replace Gardner Minshew as the primary backup behind Mahomes. The 27-year-old is expected to start the preseason Week 1 game against the Rams. In 2025 with the Jets, he posted a 2-7 record across nine starts, completing 62.7% of his passes for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception while adding 383 yards and four touchdowns on 71 carries. This marks the fourth organization for Fields in four seasons, following stints with the Bears (2021), Steelers (2024), and Jets (2025).
