NFL - The Athletic on Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Smith-Njigba's alert to Darnold exploited Rams' scheme; Garrett reduces such risks.

Seahawks receiver faced Rams' simulated pressure scheme in NFC Championship Game; on first-and-10 play, Rams had Quentin Lake and safety doubling Smith-Njigba. Smith-Njigba knew the pressure was coming and alerted quarterback Sam Darnold. With Garrett acquisition, the Rams can take fewer such risks and rely more on their four-man rush, reducing the need for complex coverage schemes that leave receivers like Smith-Njigba vulnerable to one-on-one matchups.
