First overall pick may start season as third-string QB behind Cousins and O'Connell.

The first overall pick in the 2024 draft may start his rookie season as a third-stringer behind Kirk Cousins and Aidan O'Connell. Coach Klint Kubiak stated that the decision between Mendoza and O'Connell for the backup role has not yet been made, but Kubiak appears in no rush to get Mendoza on the field. It appears likely that Cousins will start the season with Mendoza on the sideline, and Mendoza may not get on the field early in the season even if Cousins goes down.
