From the article

To the extent the Vikings still have a competition for the backup quarterback spot behind Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy won't get a chance to make a preseason closing argument. Unless the Vikings plan to keep four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, they may have to choose between McCarthy or Max Brosmer. His two preseason performances did little to show that the deficiencies from last year (durability, accuracy, touch) have been resolved.

McCarthy's Vikings roster spot in jeopardy; preseason performances haven't resolved prior concerns.

McCarthy's roster status is uncertain heading into the 53-man cutdown two days after the preseason finale. The Vikings may have to choose between McCarthy and Max Brosmer for the backup quarterback spot behind Kyler Murray, especially if Carson Wentz cements the starter role. McCarthy could be placed on short-term IR, waived to the practice squad, traded, or released entirely. His two preseason performances did little to demonstrate that his deficiencies from last year—durability, accuracy, and touch—have been resolved.
