McCaffrey, 30, dealing with tightness; 49ers investing in younger backs for load management.

The source notes that McCaffrey, now 30 years old, has dealt with 'tightness' for much of training camp and preseason. The 49ers are investing in younger backs (Black and James) to take pressure off McCaffrey and provide rest, given his checkered injury history. The source frames this as necessary load management for a future Hall of Fame starter as more miles accumulate on his legs.
