NeutralRole

Altmyer shows promise but turnovers and progression issues cloud backup QB case.

Altmyer is competing for the backup QB role as a UDFA. He threw an interception on his first drive (rolling right and throwing back across the middle, similar to Dobbs' mistake the prior week), but bounced back on the next series with good throws to Greg Dortch, Tay Martin, and a 19-yard pass to Lucky Jackson on third-and-9 that led to a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. However, he threw another turnover in the second half when holding the ball too long—a recurring rookie issue. Dan Campbell has emphasized wanting Altmyer to progress through reads more confidently and concisely.
