Pickens' full potential wasn't unlocked during his tenure with the Steelers, but the Cowboys and Brian Schottenheimer helped him truly breakout in his first year in Dallas by altering his role. In Pittsburgh, Pickens ran go routes 31.4% of the time (ninth-highest rate in football) with 43 targets and 760 receiving yards off go routes (both league-leading), but ran in routes just 6.2% of the time (2.8% in his final season). With Dallas, Pickens ran in routes a career-high 11% of the time, with in-breaking routes making up 38% of his usage versus 27.7% in his final Pittsburgh season. On in-breaking routes last year, Pickens averaged 7.9 yards after the catch per reception (fifth-most among WRs), with only Puka Nacua having more receiving yards (501) on such routes.
