Penix is the correct answer to be the Falcons' starter for the bulk of 2026 because he raises the ceiling for the offense; he possesses superior arm strength and willingness to attack downfield compared to Tua, critical areas that make him the better quarterback option. Penix is also less prone to negative plays that kill drives: he has a 12.2 percent career pressure-to-sack rate (top 7 among all QBs in each of his first two seasons, led the nation in 2022 at Washington, top 10 in 2023) versus Tua's 19.4 percent career rate and career-worst 23 percent in 2025. Penix's 2.9 percent turnover-worthy play rate is significantly lower than Tua's 4 percent (equivalent to six fewer turnover-worthy plays per season).
