Neither Tanner McKee nor Andy Dalton had a particularly good summer... I'd still feel more comfortable with McKee as No. 2 than the 38-year-old Dalton.

Dalton's age 38 and uneven summer leave him behind McKee in backup competition.

Competing with Tanner McKee for the backup quarterback role at age 38. Neither had a particularly good summer; each was effective in one preseason game (Dalton vs. the Bengals, McKee in New England) and had some good and bad days at practice. The competition is close, and it wouldn't be shocking if Nick Sirianni and Sean Mannion decide to go with Dalton because of his experience, but the source would feel more comfortable with McKee as No. 2. The fact that Howie Roseman hasn't been able to trade either tells you what the rest of the league thinks of them.
