49ers tight end Jake Tonges suffered an MCL injury to his knee in Thursday night's win over the Rams. Coach Kyle Shanahan stated "It wasn't good. It's not an ACL, it's the MCL, I believe, but there's some issues with it that we've got to see how it is." Shanahan's tone suggested the medical staff believes Tonges will miss significant time. The 49ers won't have full diagnostic clarity until returning from Australia for comprehensive testing. Tonges, 27, had expanded to a much larger offensive role in 2025 due to George Kittle injuries after spending 2024 mostly on special teams.
