After picking off a Brock Purdy pass, Stafford turned the ball back over to the San Francisco 49ers on 3rd & 10 from the SF 35. Instead of taking his underneath option (Terrance Ferguson), Stafford tried to force a pass on a deep corner to Puka Nacua. The ball was underthrown; giving SF momentum and taking 3 points off the board for LA.

Stafford's forced passes and poor decision-making cost Rams 3 points in Week 1 loss.

Stafford's Week 1 performance was marked by self-inflicted offensive mistakes. After intercepting a Brock Purdy pass, he turned the ball over on 3rd & 10 from the SF 35-yard line by forcing an underthrown deep corner pass to Puka Nacua instead of taking his underneath option (Terrance Ferguson), costing LA a potential field goal and a 10-3 lead. The Rams offense, which was one of the best in 2025 due to favorable down-and-distance situations, struggled dramatically in this game, converting only 1 of 9 third downs via a Kyren Williams run, with the other conversion coming via defensive pass interference.
