Metcalf saw a 24.4% target share and 39.1% first-read share in Week 1 against Atlanta's single-high look (67.4%), but fell flat with four receptions and 40 receiving yards (0.98 YPRR). In Week 2 against New England, which utilized single-high on 55.6% of snaps, Metcalf could see shadow coverage from Christian Gonzalez. Gonzalez followed Jaxon Smith-Njigba on 65.4% of routes in Week 1, and while Smith-Njigba roasted him with six of nine targets for 103 yards and a score, Metcalf isn't the same tier of receiver. Last year, Gonzalez followed Emeka Egbuka, Jerry Jeudy, Tee Higgins, and Darius Slayton on at least 60% of routes, and only Egbuka surpassed 30 receiving yards in his coverage (only Slayton had a receiving touchdown). The source expects Metcalf to get featured but struggles to see him popping off with a massive week.
