They have leaned heavily on zone runs without consistently creating space for Saquon Barkley, and I don't think the solution is simply to call outside zone more often and hope it suddenly works. I would like to see them call some crack-toss, pin-pull, and other perimeter variations that could help Barkley move laterally while forcing the Bears' edge defenders to fit the run well.

Positive signalMatchup

Barkley's edge-setting weakness matchup favors perimeter run schemes over zone.

Saquon Barkley has a favorable matchup against the Bears' run defense, which has shown problems setting the edge, particularly on the left side; Aaron Jones gained 105 yards on 23 carries against them last week. The source recommends the Eagles call crack-toss, pin-pull, and other perimeter variations to help Barkley move laterally while forcing the Bears' edge defenders to fit the run well, rather than relying solely on outside zone. The Eagles should make this defense run from side to side and tackle Barkley in space, which is a better use of the matchup than repeatedly sending him into stacked boxes.
