the plan, at least according to some media members and fans, was that Watson would play poorly in the first two games, opening the door for Shedeur Sanders, the greatest fifth-round draft pick in NFL history, to ride to the rescue in the home opener... it would probably have to be Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel.

Sanders remains a trade candidate as Browns seek value for backup QB depth.

Backup QB and fifth-round draft pick; the original plan was for him to start in the home opener if Watson underperformed in the first two games, but Watson's turnaround has kept Sanders on the bench. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler notes that Sanders, along with Gabriel, is a trade candidate if the Browns receive the right offer, as the team values flexibility and is willing to move backup QBs at the right price.
