Steichen's quick-throw game plan benched Downs behind Treadwell, Warren, and Dulin.

Despite running 35+ routes in a single game since Week 9 of last year, Downs found himself near the bottom of the totem pole in Week 4 against Washington's secondary. HC Shane Steichen's game plan favored quick throws to slot receivers: Laquon Treadwell (27.8% target share on quick throws), Tyler Warren (22.2%), and Ashton Dulin (22.2%) all outpaced Downs (16.7%). With Keenan Allen inactive, Dulin's routes and targets jumped, and Deion Burks (33.3% slot rate) took away additional reps from Downs.
