Dalton was acquired by the Eagles as the immediate backup to Hurts in the offseason but was demoted after poor play in limited action in Week 3, ceding the backup role to McKee. His ineffective performance and subsequent demotion may have also undermined McKee's confidence entering the season.NegativeRoleAug 24, 2026
Dalton has struggled significantly in preseason action for the Eagles. After an ineffective 3-for-6 for 20 yards against the Ravens, he finished 3-for-10 for 44 yards against New England, with all completions going to Darius Cooper. Through two preseason games, Dalton is 6-for-16 for 64 yards on nine drives with a miserable 50.0 passer rating. The source notes he hasn't been terrible in practice but in games 'just hasn't brought any juice to the offense and has looked all of his 38 years.' The source suggests Howie Roseman should find a taker for Dalton for a bottom-of-the-draft pick, as Tanner McKee should be Jalen Hurts' backup.NegativeProjectionAug 19, 2026
Eagles QB Andy Dalton delivered a really disappointing performance in preseason film review. Dalton feels pressure up the gut (with Eagles offensive lineman Drew Kendall's anchor not great) and gets rid of the ball too early, before letting the concept play out. The Eagles ran Crash a lot with the out route wide open, but Dalton wants to get rid of it prematurely.NegativeProjectionAug 16, 2026
Dalton got the start in the Eagles preseason game but was not sharp; he ran nine plays for 12 yards and three punts, finishing 3/6 for 20 yards and a 57.6 passer rating, showing no real separation in the QB2 battle.
