1:32I'll tell you how the Niners stay undefeated against the Commanders team, looking to squash the negative chatter about a week five tie.
1:39And welcome to a brand new edition of NFL Report.
1:42I'm Mike Dan. Cody Kessler is going to be joining us in just a few moments.
1:47We got news on a firing of a general manager.
1:50That's still to come. But we start with a massive story that is rocking the NFL world.
1:56It is part of our latest headlines. An absolutely scary situation for Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
2:01His season is done after doctors found multiple blood clots in his lungs.
2:05Hurts will undergo treatment involving blood thinners that is expected to side line up for at least three months.
2:10Nick Sirianni spoke to the media today and the reporters were firing off questions.
2:15Nick, why was Jalen Hurts allowed to fly home despite the team knowing that he had a blood clot?
2:21Again, again, I'm not a medical expert. Same deal there.
2:24We get medical information from our guys and we always put the players health first and foremost in every situation.
2:30And, you know, that's where we were there. Did you were you briefed by the medical team before you did this press
2:37conference on why he was permitted to fly despite the blood clot?
2:40Yeah, guys. I talked to them a lot. Can you give us the information?
2:45Yeah, guys. I talked to the guys. Hey, Jeff.
2:47As a spokesman of the team, we're just hoping you give us some information for the public.
2:53Thank you. Guys, I've addressed this. I've talked to you guys about this.
2:57Again, the medical experts are there. And I think I've answered this question multiple times.
3:01Well, as that story continues to unfold, especially the timing of knowing when those blood clots were, we got you covered here on NFL Report.
3:09A loss to the Winless Titans. That was the final straw.
3:12Colts general manager Chris Ballard has been fired by the team.
3:16There were fired Ballard chants in Lucas Oil Stadium yesterday.
3:19Assistant general manager at Dodds, who will take over for the rest of the season.
3:23Here's head coach Shane Steichen on the firing. When I heard the news today, I talked to Carly, you know, disappointed.
3:30Obviously, you got a relationship with Chris. Like I said, a phenomenal human, high character.
3:35Just one of the best, you know, people I've ever been around.
3:38And as far as I'm concerned with my situation, you know, I'm grateful for every day that I'm in this building.
3:45And I'll take that for granted. And I got to get these guys ready for the Vikings.
3:50Well, for a little bit more, not only on Jalen Hurts and that situation, but Chris Ballard's firing.
3:55We got you covered. Be sure to check out the NFL Daily Podcast.
3:59Greg Rosenthal is going to be joined by Charles McDonald, host of The Athletic Live, to break it all down.
4:06All right, let's get you caught up on some football that we saw yesterday.
4:10Good to see that do the Iceman back out on the football field.
4:14Missed the last three games to Caleb Williams with that hamstring injury.
4:18Here we go. Scoreless early. Buying some time with his legs.
4:21And we got ourselves a touchdown. Loveland in the end zone.
4:24He had six grabs, 65 yards. Caleb threw for 305 in this one.
4:28A little bit later in a 14-7 game, just before halftime, DeAndre Swift, one of his two touchdowns in the game.
4:35It is good to see your offense rolling and clicking, especially if you are Ben Johnson.
4:40And by the way, there's nothing better than a winning locker room.
4:43I'm happy to be back. It's bears over everybody.
4:46I believe that. Special teams, defense, my damn old line, my wide receivers, my running backs, my tight ends.
4:52Everybody, man. Y'all are amazing. And obviously, shout out the coaches.
4:55My guy. Let's get on to this next week, man.
4:59It gets back! Here's our three. For about a half second there, I thought that hoodie was going to come off of Ben Johnson.
5:06And meanwhile, Sunday Night Football, Jordan Love, Dak Prescott, two of the better quarterbacks in the NFL.
5:11Two teams candidly needing a win. And this will help the Green Bay cause love to Matthew Golden.
5:17He's been tearing it up. Something tells me his name is going to come up on the Fantasy Show Wednesday here on the NFL Channel.
5:24Dak picked off one of those tough moments for him.
5:27It's Green Bay defense. By the way, we got some news on Micah Parsons coming up in just a bit.
5:34But they were holding their own against one of the more prolific offenses in the NFL.
5:39A little bit later in this matchup, Jordan Love on a first and goal, finding his way into the end zone.
5:45Packers handling business in prime time. Massive questions around this Cowboys team.
5:49All right. Meanwhile, we got the Cardinals. And a little love there between Matthew Stafford, Michael LaFleur, of course, Coach LaFleur.
5:55Rams O.C. the last three seasons. All right. Offensively, this not a great showing, but under a minute to go here.
6:02Colby Parkinson finds the end zone. Got 47 seconds or so.
6:05They adjust that clock. That's still plenty of time.
6:08Jacoby Brissette. Yeah, I'm talking about a Cardinals offense.
6:11That was enough for them to make some moves.
6:13How about this to Jalen Brooks, who had a drop previously just on the previous possession, but comes back.
6:19Tack on another 15 yards. Josh Wallace called for unnecessary roughness, which by the way, a little bit of a tough call.
6:26It almost seemed like incidental contact. But Chad Ryland from 43.
6:29That's good. Arizona's defense, much maligned, held the ramps to just 286 yards of total offense.
6:34McVay, obviously very frustrated when this thing was done.
6:37We won't win a game unless we figure out how not to beat ourselves.
6:41You know, just so many unforced errors, so many things that are not in alignment with what we want to do specifically on the game.
6:49We're going to be able to play on the offensive side of the ball.
6:53Give up a big return to be able to start.
6:56Lose the kicker. Covering on that kickoff coverage, and that comes out for a big gain.
7:01And so, you know, we didn't do enough. We have a lot to look at ourselves on, and we have to be
7:08able to go back to the drawing board and figure out how we improve.
7:12Because like I just told you guys, you know, we have to be able to not beat ourselves before we figure out
7:19how to even come away with some of the results.
7:22And it's not even good enough. And I got to do a much better job.
7:27And clearly that, you know, today is, you know, there's nothing positive that I can say about today.
7:32All right. To be fair here, and maybe this is not something Rams fans want to hear.
7:38They haven't really been fully healthy so far this season.
7:41But regardless, it's just getting worse. Mike Garofalo putting this out on social media.
7:45Devontae Adams, hamstring injury out six to ten weeks.
7:48You got to be kidding me, man. And then Kobe Turner, you talk about a guy that can be a game record in that defensive tackle spot.
7:56He's headed to IR, and there's been obviously some massive issues in the kicking game.
8:01Blake Rupi, you heard him or you watched him get hurt trying to make a tackle.
8:06I mean, this is a little bit of a head scratcher.
8:09Cody Kessler with us right now. You'll catch Cody.
8:12He's going to be hanging with me and Nelson Aguilar coming up at the bottom of the hour game day preview.
8:18More on the Monday night matchup, Cody, in just a moment.
8:22But this is two and four team. This is a team that we talked about being the favorites to go and win the Super Bowl.
8:29And here we are, last place in the division.
8:32If I'm a Rams fan, if I'm inside that building, how panicked should I be?
8:37Yeah, I'm very worried about the Rams. When you have a team that has this high of expectations yet, they continue to underachieve week after week.
8:45And most importantly, they aren't fixing the issues they have.
8:48That's when you become concerned. And that's exactly what's happening right now with the Rams.
8:52This offseason, they went out and put together arguably the best roster in the NFL.
8:57And I know they've had some injuries, but even with those injuries, they should not be playing as bad as they are right now.
9:04Offensively, they're too predictable. They're too conservative in moments that they need to be aggressive.
9:09They lack an identity. And in my opinion, Sean McVay is just overthinking his play calling right now.
9:15It's fourth and one and you hand the ball off to your backup tight end.
9:19And then fourth and eight in a critical moment, you throw a screen pass two yards behind the line of scrimmage.
9:26I just don't fully understand the thought process there.
9:28And then on defense, you're doing too many things wrong, too many missed tackles, some costly penalties.
9:34And now back to back weeks, you haven't been able to get a stop when you needed it most.
9:39And yeah, that's what really concerns me with the Rams.
9:43Their inability to finish games this year. Three of their four losses have been by four points, three points and two points.
9:49Other teams are making plays in critical moments and the Rams are not.
9:53So I do think it's time to start panicking a little bit if they're the Rams, because if they don't get this
10:00figured out quickly, they're going to get left behind in their division.
10:04By the way, speaking of this division, I think back to 2024, they were one in four to start that campaign.
10:10They were able to make the postseason. Your gut, are they a playoff team right now?
10:15I want to say yes, because I do believe in Matthew Stafford and the players that they have on their roster.
10:22But what I've seen on tape, there's not enough evidence for me to believe that.
10:26And now you're adding other injuries on top of that.
10:29It's going to take a lot of work. But at the same time, when you have stability and leadership at the most
10:36important positions like head coach, like quarterback, you can get a lot of things done.
10:41Hopefully they turn it around quickly. All right, Cody, more from you in just a moment.
10:46We'll also focus in a little bit on that Monday Night Football matchup.
10:50Let's get you caught up on what went down with A.J.
10:53Brown. Oh, good to see him back. Of course, got hurt in week number one.
10:58He's supposed to be a huge focal point of this team's offense.
11:01Divisional game against the Jets. Drake May. Guys just offensively just been on a tear in recent weeks.
11:07Plenty of time here. Romeo Dobbs, 42 yard touchdown.
11:10That gave New England the lead, getting fired up.
11:12Dobbs, by the way, really hurt in this game.
11:15We got more of that coming up a little bit later.
11:19And then it's Geno Smith. He's having himself a pretty good campaign.
11:22But boy, you get moments like this and you're like, ooh, this is the difference between just a good team and one that's trying to get there.
11:31As I reference a gangrene squad. But meanwhile, it is Drake May and company.
11:35It's now three consecutive wins. In fact, the two other ones were against these two teams.
11:40It was Buffalo and Vegas. Josh Allen had that huge win against the Rams.
11:44They stayed out on the West Coast. Josh. I mean, I'm sitting here on my couch.
11:49I'm watching this thing live and I'm like, only Josh Allen, right?
11:53Well, and Patrick Mahomes. But just one of those spectacular plays.
11:56A little push pass into the end zone. Keon Coleman.
11:59He just smiling ear to ear after grabbing that touchdown.
12:02Kirk Cousins. Captain Kirk, man. Hanging tough. Trey Tucker.
12:05We're all of a sudden tied at 23. There's just a whole lot of this Buffalo Bills offense.
12:11The run game. I know there's been some moments where James Cook has coughed up the football, but just keeping those wheels turning.
12:18Three yard touchdown run. Buffalo survives in Vegas. As we hear from Josh Allen, a.k.a.
12:22Superman on a spectacular touchdown. I saw him. I saw him.
12:26But once it comes out, you know, you kind of get hit and tumble around.
12:30And it's so hard in these away games, which feel like home games.
12:34Once you hear the crowd go crazy, you're like, I don't know if it's a touchdown.
12:39I don't know if it's an interception. So again, he found him finds himself in the right place at the right time
12:46and finds a way to get open. Yes, he does.
12:49Keon Coleman a year ago sitting in that doghouse and all of a sudden just continues to find himself in the end
12:56zone with the ball in his hands. But don't look now.
12:59Buffalo Bills and keep in mind. Yeah, they did lose to New England, but these are some impressive wins that this team has had.
13:07How good is this team a little bit later?
13:09Scott Hansen's going to be joining us and giving us his take on this Buffalo squad.
13:14His response, by the way, may surprise you. Meanwhile, we got some Monday night football.
13:19The closeout week number six. Good to see this dude ready to go.
13:23Jaden Daniels course made his return off that dislocated elbow.
13:26Tough return in a week five tie against the New York Giants.
13:30George Kittle just of course, that's how George rolls up to a football game.
13:34Looking forward to this one. We'll get you set on game day preview once again coming up at the bottom of the hour.
13:41Cody Kessler will be hanging with me. I'll make my way up to that studio at some point.
13:47Cody Nelson Aguilar, your old teammate and roommate at USC will be with us as well.
13:52But this Niners team, they're obviously super talented. They're undefeated right now.
13:55How do we keep the good vibes rolling with a win on Monday night?
14:00Yeah, they keep it rolling by just continuing to do what they've done so far this season.
14:05The 49ers are the best team in football right now.
14:08They're two dimensional on offense. They can hurt you both in the pass game and in the run game.
14:14Kyle Shanahan is the best offensive play caller right now in all of football.
14:18It is so impressive to watch the game plan that he puts together on a week to week basis.
14:24And on top of that, Brock Purdy is playing at an MVP level right now.
14:28You can't play the quarterback position much better than he has so far this season.
14:33And then on the other side of the ball, this defense has been really good so far this year under their new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
14:41Their fourth in total defense. They're doing a good job of creating takeaways.
14:45Fred Warner's playing at an elite level again, and they're only giving up 18 points per game.
14:50There are just not a lot of weaknesses when you look at this 49er football team.
14:55This is going to be a tough challenge tonight for the commanders.
14:59Offensively, they dealt with some injuries so far this year.
15:02And on the defensive side of the ball, the commanders are giving up almost 30 points per game, which is dead last in the NFL.
15:10I think the 49ers handle business tonight and improve to 6-0 on the season.
15:14By the way, if you're a Washington fan and you're listening to Cody, like you get what this narrative is going to be.
15:21It's not all loss, right? Like Washington still does have a win against Seattle, who we think is one of the best teams in the NFL.
15:29So I guess, Cody, that's my way of saying, yeah, there's a chance, but I'm with you.
15:34The Niners right now, a potent team. We got a little bit more on this matchup once again, right here on the NFL channel.
15:42Cody, I will see you momentarily. Meanwhile, Saints and Giants.
15:45So this thing got real ugly from a New York perspective.
15:48Tyler Shuck. Now there was some critical comments, Gail Benson, about this team and what they could bring.
15:54And they were just underachieving. Well, Chris Alave changing that conversation.
15:57Four catches in this game had that touchdown. And yeah, we got a little glimpse of J.J.
16:02McCarthy. By the way, this on a rope. It's a hell of a throw from J.J.
16:07Just kind of coming off the bench there in relief of Jameis Winston.
16:11And like there was some fight right now in this team.
16:15McCarthy goes 11 to 21 passing, 243 passing yards.
16:17Did that interception, but we showed you that touchdown.
16:20Saints figure out a way to get it done.
16:23Now you know what this means in New York.
16:26There's going to be a conversation about who is going to start next week.
16:30John Harbaugh was asked after the game. This is his comments today.
16:34Working through that right now on that quarterback decision with Winston and J.J.
16:38McCarthy not ready to name a starter for this week against the Houston Texans.
16:42And don't look now. The Texans all of a sudden feels like they have been figuring things out.
16:48And we still haven't even seen what that offense is going to really look like when Marvin Harrison gets going.
16:54Well, with NFL Plus Premium, you can get NFL Red Zone.
16:57Watch every touchdown every Sunday afternoon during the regular season.
17:00That's what I was doing yesterday. We got game replays for you and you can track down advanced analytics powered by next-gen stats with NFL Pro.
17:08You can sign up today at plus.nfl.com slash fast.
17:11Terms and conditions apply. Now for some burning questions, I'm going to hand it off to Scott Hanson.
17:16There are definitely more than three burning questions a month and a half into the season, but let's tackle three of the biggest ones right now.
17:25What is wrong with the Los Angeles Rams? Everybody's off-season Super Bowl favorite doesn't look like a Super Bowl contender right now.
17:31Doesn't look like a division contender right now. Doesn't look like even a playoff team right now sitting at two and four after six games.
17:39The defense, it's been okay, even statistically good, but against the Arizona Cardinals, they could not get off the field.
17:45And the Cardinals were down to a second or third string running back.
17:49Congratulations and salute to Bam Knight and that offensive line.
17:52Cardinals ran for 120 yards. Now I know, I know there's no Miles Garrett involved right here, right now.
17:58He hasn't played any impactful snaps. He played week one in Australia, but said he was kind of a shadow of himself.
18:05They got to get him back on the field and get him back on the field soon.
18:10And then Matthew Stafford in this offense doesn't look like the MVP form that we've seen either.
18:15Two and four, it's not panic button, but the thumb might be hovering over the top of it right now.
18:21Burning question number two, not to pile on Los Angeles, but is there any hope for the LA Chargers?
18:27Both Los Angeles teams just struggling right now, but the Chargers just in the pit at 0-6.
18:33Their worst start this century. And we all know it kind of stems from the lack of offense that they've had.
18:39Justin Herbert has been a star quarterback. Mike McDaniel has been a star offensive mind and play caller.
18:45But the strange alchemy of these two being put together has produced awful results.
18:4915 points per game. That's 30th in the NFL.
18:52They've allowed 21 sacks this year. And I know both of their offensive tackles are out again like they were for most of last year.
18:59Jim Harbaugh says he's going to evaluate everything. Well, he better get some answers soon or the only hope for the Chargers
19:06will be a top five draft pick in April.
19:09And the third of our burning questions right now.
19:12Are we sure the Buffalo Bills are elite so far?
19:15You are what your record says you are and the Bills are five and one and they're in first place.
19:21So that's what they are. However, I think when you look at this Bills team, they're good enough that they can play, you know, poorly and win.
19:29They did that against the L.A. Chargers. But they're not good enough that they can won't play poorly and lose.
19:35See what they did against the New England Patriots.
19:38And then this right here. Look, everyone's saying play of the year, play of the decade, whatnot.
19:43Josh Allen, MVP, former MVP, MVP candidate this year.
19:46But plays like this is a little bit of the Josh Allen experience.
19:50You can make those plays, but sometimes they'll come up as interceptions and everyone will go.
19:55That's not the play of the year. That might be the worst decision of the year.
20:00But hey, Buffalo, it's mostly good right now. Five and one.
20:03Offense is elite. Defense needs to progress. The Bills are on the by here in week number seven.
20:09More information to follow on that burning question. Scott, congrats on episode 300.
20:13By the way, Bill's Mafia, you can find Scott on social media.
20:17Meanwhile, here we go. Wembley got a little more international flavor.
20:20Check this out. Cam Little's had a 60 yard field goal that tied the game with 30 at 31 with under two minutes to go here.
20:28About a minute in the game. How about CJ Stroud of Woody Marks?
20:32That's good for 19 yards. That would help set up this.
20:35Skymy Fairbairn from 49 gets it to go through the upright.
20:39His ninth career game winning field goal. His time expires.
20:42The Houston Texans take out the Jags, who by the way, are fortunate to go one and one in London.
20:48If you think about what happened the other week against Philadelphia, I'm just saying.
20:52Meanwhile, Titans and Colts. As we told you on Friday on NFL report, this might be an upset alert for you.
20:59How about Cam Ward to Cardinal Tate? Fourth overall pick first career touchdown for him.
21:03Tied at 13. The Titans. Oh, Sanchez gets blocked.
21:06Femi Oladejo returns it for 14 yards into the end zone.
21:09Doesn't matter if the scores are coming from the defense, their offense or special team.
21:14Robert Sala is like, yo, I'll take some points here.
21:17Daniel Jones. He's got the heave. This is going to fall short.
21:21Jones, by the way, has got to be a bit shell-shocked.
21:24Dude was sacked six times in this game. How about the Tennessee Titans?
21:28It is win number one. Cam's like a little sense of relief there.
21:32Robert Sala. It is his first win as the Titans head coach.
21:36All right. Back here on NFL report. We got Steelers and Bucks.
21:40Aaron Rodgers' squad down 13 in the fourth quarter.
21:42But it's it's Rodgers, right? Like there's there's always an opportunity and a chance in overtime here.
21:48Rodgers, Jeremy Bernard. How about his first career touchdown?
21:50Somehow, some way finds his way into the end zone.
21:53Jalen Daniels, man. This has been kind of a tough sled for him.
21:57He's had some good moments and some not so good moments.
22:01And fourth down to end the game here. Whoo.
22:04Feeling Ramsey. Didn't even see it coming. Daniels, by the way, two interceptions in the fourth quarter.
22:09Costly. Rodgers. He knows this win absolutely huge as the Steelers right now are sitting at four and two.
22:15These are the most important, you know, moments for us as a team to grow because this is a trajectory altering win today.
22:22But, you know, to be four and two now to win our first road game to beat a team we should have beat.
22:29You know, there's no two ways around it. You got to be teams like that if you want to get to where we want to get.
22:37And didn't look like a win for a long time.
22:40So I'm proud of our guys. Defense kept us in it.
22:43And offense finally made a couple of plays. Fighting to the end that Pittsburgh Swat speaking in this division, Baltimore, we know no Lamar Jackson.
22:51Stu Potley played well Sunday night football week ago against the Atlanta Falcons.
22:55They were able to score that way in Cleveland trail by 10.
22:59And this one only had 107 total yards and heading into that fourth quarter.
23:03But Sean Watson, man, these timely plays late 33 yard pass to Jeremy Judy.
23:07That would set up. It's Andre Schmitz, who, by the way, missed a 48 yard field goal just a few minutes prior from 37.
23:15That's good. The Browns win Munkin, who spent his previous three seasons as the Ravens offensive coordinator, is now talking about and
23:21experiencing his Cleveland Browns team sitting in first place in the AFC North.
23:25Exactly how we all thought it was going to play out.
23:29Just kind of crazy here. You got Pittsburgh also sitting at four and two.
23:33The Ravens sitting at four and two. Cincinnati came out of the gates.
23:37You're like, hey, the offense is wrong. The defense was looking good.
23:41They're sitting at three and two. So just keep in mind, man, there's still some opportunities for these squads.
23:47The Browns, though, they continue to win all these close games.
23:50All four wins have come by four points or fewer.
23:53Just wild. By the way, latest they've been in first place in this season since 2014.
23:58Just wild to me. All right. Time for some quick hits for you.
24:02Packers. They've won three straight. Have to wait a little bit for Micah Parsons return.
24:07Matt LaFleur saying today he is not formally designated for return from the physically unable to perform list ahead of this week's game against the Lions.
24:15LaFleur, by the way, didn't rule out week eight as a potential option.
24:19But don't forget, it's going to be a short week because they have the Panthers on TNF.
24:24Patrick Mahomes just doing what Patrick Mahomes does. That's when football games tying maybe the goat.
24:29Let's two goats here. Tom Brady is the fastest quarterbacks to reach 100 career wins in NFL history.
24:34One hundred and thirty one starts sort of a remarkable campaign right now for KC fans.
24:39We showed you the tough loss that the Bucks had against Pittsburgh a few minutes ago.
24:44Baker Mayfield continues to be on the men. He's now missed three games because of that dislocated right thumb.
24:50But we told you last week on NFL report, he was testing the ability to throw the ball.
24:56And today, Todd Bowles said the current plan is for Mayfield to be involved in practice this week.
25:01Keep in mind, they get Carolina in week number seven.
25:04So a huge divisional matchup. All right, Ian Rapoport putting this out on social media bill safety.
25:10CJ Gardner Johnson has been suspended without pay for one game for an act on sportsman like conduct, which essentially is him spitting on Brock Bowers.
25:18That is not going to get it done. So Gardner Johnson, who, by the way, has had some good moments so far on the field.
25:25Good to see him healthy. That certainly not one of the positive ones.
25:29Meanwhile, the Patriots, we showed you Romeo Dobbs getting banged up during that highlight on I'm.
25:34I are with that shoulder injury. The DB Elliot Davidson is been elevated from the to the 53 man roster.
25:40Kevin Stefanski, all positive news on Kendall Daniels. Obviously a huge hit that he suffered in that game feeling very, very fortunate.
25:47He got carted off the field. They actually cut his jersey.
25:50So definitely some positive signs there. Veteran free agent quarterback Andy Dalton signing with the Atlanta Falcons.
25:56Sort of wild to see his name get brought up into the mix, especially with all the issues right now that Philadelphia has.
26:03We'll do it again tomorrow. NFL report. You can catch us all week long.
