Matthew Stafford is cited as a reason to believe the Rams can turn things around due to his stability and leadership at the quarterback position; however, the source notes that tape evidence does not yet support playoff confidence, and injuries are adding to concerns.NegativeProjectionOct 19, 2026
Matthew Stafford has regressed significantly under pressure in 2025 compared to 2024; last year he had both good and bad performances under pressure, but this year it's only bad with no good. The Cardinals blitzed at 41.7% against the Rams (up from their 25.2% rate in weeks 1-5) because Stafford cannot handle the blitz, and the Rams' only escape valve is Puka Nakua, leaving them vulnerable when coverage is tightened on him.NegativeMatchupOct 17, 2026
Matthew Stafford acknowledged the challenge of facing Mike LaFleur, who spent three years as the Rams' offensive coordinator and knows the offense intimately, but emphasized trusting players to execute in the moment rather than worrying about what the opposing coordinator knows.PositiveProjectionOct 17, 2026
Matthew Stafford has demonstrated late-game execution capability, leading game-winning drives against Philadelphia in consecutive weeks and a late touchdown drive to tie against Buffalo on Monday night; Stafford noted that tape review shows minimal difference in tempo and play calls between first and second halves, with execution being the primary differentiator in close games.PositiveProjectionOct 14, 2026
Matthew Stafford is better this week than he has been for most of the season, though still a little bit sloppy at times; he needs to clean up endgame scenarios and close out games for the Rams to improve their record.NegativeProjectionOct 14, 2026
Stafford returned as an MVP-caliber quarterback with significant offensive firepower around him on the Rams, but the team has not lived up to high preseason expectations despite these additions. The Rams were expected to win many games handily with Aaron Donald rejoining the defense and Stafford leading the offense, yet they have been good but not great so far this season.PositiveUsageOct 14, 2026
Stafford expertly guided the Rams down the field in the final moments of regulation, orchestrating a touchdown drive that tied the game 27-27 against the Bills; he was one of the last two MVPs in the NFL alongside Josh Allen.NegativeProjectionOct 9, 2026

Brett Coleman expects Matthew Stafford to improve, dismissing his recent interceptions as uncharacteristic and noting that the Rams' offense is beginning to find its rhythm.PositiveProjectionOct 8, 2026
Matthew Stafford is underperforming compared to his previous MVP-caliber season, evidenced by six interceptions in four games and a 36% off-target rate on downfield throws (10+ yards). He has struggled specifically against playoff-caliber teams, completing under 60% of his passes in those matchups.NegativeProjectionOct 7, 2026

Matthew Stafford has been sloppy with the football, throwing two interceptions against the Eagles, and is starting to show his age.NegativeProjectionOct 5, 2026
Matthew Stafford is not playing at the same 'insanely accurate MVP level' he displayed last year. With the Rams' wide receivers consistently ranking last in the NFL in average separation (3.0 yards), Stafford's margin for error has significantly decreased compared to the 2025 season.NegativeProjectionOct 1, 2026
Matthew Stafford has not looked like the MVP-caliber player he was last year, though he is dealing with team-wide issues.NegativeUsageOct 1, 2026
Stafford is struggling with pressure and lacks trust in his protection, leading to a slower release time (2.7-2.8 seconds) compared to the quick-game approach needed to beat blitzes. The source notes he is failing to identify free rushers against disguised zero-blitz looks, which resulted in a pick-six against Hufunga, and the team must adjust their protection schemes to avoid further struggles.NegativeProjectionOct 1, 2026
Matthew Stafford is struggling significantly under pressure this season, with his quarterback rating dropping to 28.8 compared to 86.0 last year. He is not trusting his reads or getting the ball out quickly, which is a major concern heading into a matchup against an Eagles defense that generates a 39.2% pressure rate.NegativeUsageSep 28, 2026

Stafford is expected to pass the torch to Ty Simpson at some point in 2027 or 2028; the Browns, who now own the Rams' first-round pick in 2027, could use that pick or bundle picks to go get their quarterback of the future, with the two quarterbacks potentially being linked for years to come.
