Dr. Deepak Chona notes that comments suggest Christian McCaffrey could play right now, though he expects a large degree of practice load management all season. Drafting CMC carries HIGH overall risk given soft-tissue injury history, age 30, and the 2025 workload; Chona is not raising the risk level based on the current injury situation.NegativeInjuryAug 19, 2026
McCaffrey is dealing with actual tightness, not a hold-in per Ian Rapoport, who added it doesn't seem like anything to worry about. Sean Payton notes they're not sliding off McCaffrey at RB3 (pick 6) over August tightness but admits having a tiny bit of worry, with flashbacks to 2024 when the 49ers dismissed CMC concerns before he was out for the majority of the season.PositiveValueAug 12, 2026
McCaffrey sat out Monday's practice with tightness as a maintenance day; the source is not overreacting and maintains he is RB3 at pick 6 on Underdog, a first-round lock. No one is projected for as many high-value touches as McCaffrey, and despite being 30 years old and showing signs of decline last year, the source considers him a strong pick.
