Barkley's efficiency depends on offensive line performance; Philadelphia went from sixth in ESPN's run block win rate in 2024 to 17th in 2025. Barkley ranked 47th out of 50 qualified running backs in yards per carry when hit at or behind the line of scrimmage (.9) but was 22nd (6.6) when no one touched him for at least a yard; he averaged 8.6 YPC with a head of steam in 2024. While the assumption is the line will rebound with Lane Johnson healthy, the Eagles lost legendary offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland in the offseason and all three oldest line members received lower pass and run blocking grades from PFF in 2025 versus the previous season. It shouldn't be taken for granted the line will improve or even maintain last year's form; if it gets worse, we could be looking at the late Giants version of Barkley.

Barkley's receiving output since joining the Eagles has been solid but never elite, topping out at 37 catches last year and representing the lowest reception totals of his career (excluding a two-game 2020 season). He's coming off career-lows in target share; the Eagles simply haven't chosen to throw him the ball much. With A.J. Brown gone, Dallas Goedert coming off career-worst marks in YAC per catch and yards per route run, and replacements Makai Lemon and Eli Stowers both injured, there's opportunity up for grabs in the passing game. New offensive coordinator Sean Mannion could distribute targets differently; Barkley doesn't need to set records on the ground if he gets to even 50 receptions. However, Barkley hasn't beaten James Cook in yards per route run once since Cook entered the NFL. Cmc. As feels Barkley is a very similar bet to James Cook but goes a few picks later in drafts; it's not a pick he's thrilled to make, but it qualifies as a rare discount in the first round.

Despite finishing as RB15 in fantasy points per game (14.6 PPG) last season after a falloff from his 2,000-yard rushing performance in 2024, Barkley should be primed for a bounce-back. Some of his struggles can be blamed on the Eagles' offensive struggles, which resulted in the dismissal of OC Kevin Patullo after the Wild Card loss to the Bears. The 29-year-old back remains the unquestioned RB1 of an offense that projects to be among the most run-heavy in the league and is backed by a top-five defense.
