All NBC Sports Rotoworld insights about Kyler Murray

NegativeProjectionOct 26, 2026
Murray has been disappointing through four weeks: three touchdowns and zero games over 250 yards. While his rushing upside is nice (80 yards in two weeks), the lack of passing production makes it hard to see him becoming 2024 Jalen Hurts. Even against a Colts defense without Sauce Gardner, Murray couldn't capitalize. Justin Jefferson had more touchdowns with Carson Wentz in Week 1 than with Murray. Murray has talent and Kevin O'Connell is a good passing-game coordinator, but without major improvement, he's headed for bottom-10 superflex starter status.
NegativeProjectionOct 7, 2026
Murray is not throwing accurate passes when pushing the ball downfield. PFF has him charted with a 29.4 percent accurate throw rate on throws 10+ yards downfield, ranking 37th out of 39 qualified quarterbacks. He is fourth in accurate throw rate on attempts less than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. The Vikings aren't built to be a check-down offense, ranking 20th in YAC per catch as a team, with none of their receivers particularly adept at producing yards after the catch. Kevin O'Connell doesn't seem to know what to do with a mobile quarterback; Murray has one designed rush attempt and one RPO throw, and is 20th in play action rate.
NegativeBustAug 28, 2026
Murray got benched last year and his accuracy didn't happen in a vacuum; he was tied for the lowest aDOT in the NFL at 6.0 and had negative completion percent over expected because he was only attempting layups. Operating as a low-risk, check-down merchant will limit Jefferson's ability to earn downfield targets and could hurt the team as a whole. On a one-year deal in Minnesota, Murray isn't guaranteed the starting job for 17 games; if J.J. McCarthy returns or even Wentz plays, it would do enough damage to make Jefferson a losing bet in the first round. Cmc. As is ready for a "Fell for it Again" award with Kyler Murray and Justin Jefferson by extension.
