A.J. Brown

PositiveRole81:58

Mina Kimes praises the Eagles' receivers broadly, noting they 'look awesome' in the context of Sean Mannion's improved passing attack and better use of motion to get receivers open. While not explicitly named in the excerpt, A.J. Brown is the Eagles' primary receiver and benefits from this improved offensive scheme.

Insight page

Adonai Mitchell

PositiveRole27:27

Adonai Mitchell is being targeted heavily by the Jets offense; they threw it to him over 12 times against Green Bay, indicating the team is leaning into getting him targets and developing his role in the passing game.

Insight page

Baker Mayfield

PositiveMatchup51:47

Baker Mayfield historically has been better against the blitz than most quarterbacks, and the numbers support that. While the Vikings' Brian Flores blitz is different than most teams', Mayfield is not a quarterback that shrinks against the blitz, which could work to his advantage in this matchup.

Insight page

Bijan Robinson

PositiveRole0:05

Robinson is described as 'really good' and represents one of the few reliable offensive weapons for the Falcons, providing a bright spot in an otherwise struggling offense that has failed to reach the red zone through two weeks.

Insight page

Blake Corum

NegativeUsage82:39

Mina Kimes notes that Blake Corum (or Kyron Williams) may see targets against the Broncos' linebackers as part of the Rams' strategy to establish the run game before threatening Stafford with the pass rush.

Insight page

Bo Nix

PositiveRole0:20

Nix played well in the second half against Jacksonville, and the Broncos' offensive line is very good. The Broncos' loss to Jacksonville was not a collapse but rather execution errors and mistakes, with Nix performing adequately despite the team's inability to finish drives.

Insight page

Brian Thomas Jr.

NegativeUsage0:18

Thomas Jr. had two drops in the Jaguars' game against Denver and appeared to short-circuit at certain points, including an interception late in the game. His performance has been inconsistent, and he hasn't lived up to expectations as a receiver after his rookie year, raising questions about whether he can be the difference-maker the Jaguars need.

Insight page

Bryce Young

PositiveProjection32:59

Bryce Young has been lighting it up through the first two weeks; the Panthers offense has held up its side of the equation well, supporting optimism heading into Week 3 against the Browns.

Insight page
PositiveProjection33:10

Bryce Young has been lighting it up for the Panthers offense through two weeks; Mina Kimes notes the Panthers offense has held up their side of the equation well.

Insight page

Bucky Irving

PositiveRole51:55

Bucky Irving is central to the Buccaneers' game plan against Minnesota; this is a Bucky Irving screen game and running game. The speaker identifies Irving's usage as the key question for Tampa's offense in this matchup.

Insight page
PositiveRole52:40

Irving is featured in Tampa Bay's screen and run game; Mina Kimes likes the offensive scheme design around him as a complement to the Buccaneers' strong offensive line.

Insight page

Cam Ward

PositiveRole0:21

Ward played fine in Week 2 against Philadelphia, showing improvement compared to his Week 1 performance. The Titans offense overall looked better, suggesting Ward is settling into the role and developing as the season progresses.

Insight page

Chris Olave

PositiveRole59:19

Olave is described by Mina Kimes as 'definitely a top 10 receiver' and 'freaking awesome.' He has been healthy and productive, and Shough has complete faith in him. Kimes notes the Saints have accomplished their offensive success despite missing first-round draft pick Jordan Tyson, underscoring Olave's importance to the passing game.

Insight page

D'Andre Swift

NegativeMatchup83:37

Mina Kimes recalls that DeAndre Swift ran for 125 yards in last year's Eagles-Bears matchup when the Eagles played light boxes. However, with Case Keenum as the Bears' quarterback this week, Brian Fangio's defense will likely not employ light boxes, making Swift's rushing opportunities much less favorable.

Insight page

Denzel Boston

NegativeUsage32:00

Denzel Boston had two explosive plays in Week 2 against Tampa Bay: a 50-yard touchdown where he broke a bunch of tackles, and a fade route touchdown; however, Mina Kimes contextualizes these as benefiting from short fields created by Buccaneers mistakes rather than elite quarterback play from Deshaun Watson.

Insight page

Deshaun Watson

NegativeProjection31:30

Deshaun Watson's Week 2 performance against Tampa Bay was graded on a Deshaun Watson scale; while not great, he was okay, averaging 3.7 air yards per attempt with a lot of short passes and explosive plays, but benefited from short fields created by Buccaneers mistakes rather than elite play.

Insight page

DeVonta Smith

PositiveRole82:33

Mina Kimes notes that DeVonta Smith has been great in the Eagles' improved passing attack, contributing to the coherent offensive scheme under Sean Mannion where receivers are getting open through motion and better play-calling.

Insight page

DK Metcalf

NegativeUsage0:07

Metcalf, presumed to be the Steelers' best player, has had a tough time catching the ball early in the season. The Steelers offense has been described as equally bad as the Falcons' offense, and Metcalf's struggles catching contribute to the overall offensive dysfunction.

Insight page

Drake Maye

NegativeRole0:12

Maye looks uncomfortable under pressure and lacks confidence compared to last season. Against the Seahawks and Steelers defenses, he has struggled, particularly in zone coverage situations. However, he performs better when blitzed, showing accuracy and quick release. The Patriots offense is scared due to pass protection issues, which has permeated the entire offensive room and play-calling.

Insight page

Drew Lock

NegativeRole26:00

Mina Kimes mentions Drew Lock as a backup quarterback who is "hooping" and describes him as "the spiciest, most fun backup," suggesting he may see playing time soon. This is in the context of discussing backup quarterbacks and potential changes.

Insight page
PositiveRole26:09

Drew Lock is the spiciest, most fun backup quarterback in the league; he's aggressive with his arm talent and willing to let it fly to receivers like JSN with no regard for tight windows, creating explosive play potential.

Insight page

Garrett Wilson

PositiveMatchup27:12

Garrett Wilson and the Jets receivers face a favorable matchup against Detroit's secondary, which just lost Devante Maddox; the Jets receivers are good and getting more comfortable, creating real opportunities in the passing game if Gino Smith takes care of the football and the offensive line holds up.

Insight page

Geno Smith

NegativeProjection27:36

Gino Smith has been good relative to expectations and is willing to throw it deep; he drew a couple of penalties giving receivers chances, and his arm doesn't appear cooked as there was concern about entering the season. He's playing well enough that the Jets offense can develop and receivers can grow more comfortable.

Insight page

Jalen Hurts

PositiveRole24:00

Mina Kimes identifies Jalen Hurts as the key to the Seahawks' ability to score points in their games so far. She describes him as "special" and notes he's been particularly impressive against Washington's secondary, which has been "a lot less impressive" than Hurts' performance level.

Insight page
PositiveProjection80:58

Mina Kimes expresses confidence in Jalen Hurts through the early season, noting that the marriage with Sean Mannion is starting to click. She observes improved middle-of-the-field passing, a more coherent passing attack with better use of motion to get receivers open, and greater proficiency attacking zone coverage than predecessors. Hurts appears confident throwing into zone voids with anticipatory throws, and the receivers look awesome. Against Case Keenum and the Bears, this should be a favorable matchup.

Insight page

Jalin Hyatt

PositiveMatchup26:09

JSN (Jalin Hyatt) benefits from Drew Lock's aggressive deep-ball tendencies and willingness to fit throws into tight windows; Lock has demonstrated he will let it fly to JSN with no regard for coverage difficulty, creating explosive play opportunities.

Insight page

Jameis Winston

NegativeProjection0:21

Winston is expected to be better than his Monday night performance against the Rams, but Mina Kimes cannot bring himself to pick him or the Giants despite them being favored at home. The expectation is that blitzing Winston will be effective unless he proves otherwise, similar to what the Rams did.

Insight page
NegativeProjection22:30

Mina Kimes expresses reluctance to pick Jameis Winston in the Rams-Titans matchup, citing concerns about the Titans' defensive front (specifically Jeffrey Simmons) and the Rams' inability to run the ball effectively. The concern is that if the Rams can't establish the run game against Tennessee's strong defense, Winston will be forced to throw frequently, which plays into his turnover-prone tendencies: "we know the book on James is going to give it back to you."

Insight page

Jayden Daniels

NegativeInjury24:00

Jaden Daniels went down with an elbow injury, forcing Marcus Mariota to start for the Commanders. Mina Kimes notes she would have been worried for Daniels in the tough Seahawks matchup, though she feels more confident in Mariota's ability to handle it due to his mobility.

Insight page

Jaylen Waddle

PositiveMatchup80:30

Mina Kimes identifies a potential chess match in the Broncos-Rams game: the Rams deployed Trent McDuffie in the slot against the Giants (Week 2) after not using him there in Week 1. Kimes suggests considering targeting Jalen Waddle in the slot if the Rams continue that deployment, as it could create a favorable matchup against their corner rotation.

Insight page

Jeremiyah Love

NegativeUsage48:24

Jeremiah Love couldn't run the football much against Seattle in Week 2; Arizona's game script got away from them. Love was drafted third overall, and if Arizona can't establish a better ground game than what's been shown so far, that pick will look like a rough decision going forward.

Insight page

Joe Burrow

NegativeRole0:08

Burrow still gets hit a lot despite the Bengals' improved offensive line, which was better than anticipated coming into the season. He took numerous hits against Houston, including some unnecessary ones when scrambling, indicating ongoing pass protection concerns even with the line improvements.

Insight page

Jordan Love

NegativeRole0:04

Love is severely impacted by injuries on the Packers' offensive line; with Zach Bacobole out for the season and Anthony Belton moving to tackle, the playbook has been cut in half. Love had a 2.3-second time to throw against the Jets, and the offensive line situation remains dire and scary in Green Bay, forcing the team to rely on quick-hitting plays rather than the full playbook.

Insight page

Jordyn Tyson

NegativeDepth Chart59:19

Tyson, the Saints' first-round draft pick, has not been available. Mina Kimes notes that the Saints have been successful offensively despite his absence, suggesting the offense is functioning without a key offensive weapon.

Insight page

Kyler Murray

NegativeProjection51:17

Kyler Murray is expected to be an upgrade over Carson Wentz for the Cardinals; Mina Kimes is intrigued to see how he performs this week, noting his last game was cut short. If Murray reaches mediocre offensive production, the Cardinals could be the best team in their division given their strong defense.

Insight page
NegativeProjection55:52

Mina Kimes expresses interest in watching Kyler this week because last week's game was cut short, suggesting she wants to see a full game performance from the Cardinals quarterback.

Insight page

Kyren Williams

NegativeUsage82:39

Mina Kimes notes that the Rams may deploy Kyron Williams (or Blake Corum) in receiving roles to attack the Broncos' linebackers, as part of their early-down run game strategy to establish the run before threatening Stafford with the pass rush.

Insight page

Lamar Jackson

NegativeMatchup67:47

Mina Kimes notes that Lamar Jackson was killing the Cowboys defense on the ground in Week 2, but expresses nervousness about this matchup because Dallas' ability to create gap pressure—particularly through linebacker blitzing like the Saints did in the second half—could disrupt his scrambling. The Ravens have a rookie center who has struggled in pass protection, which compounds the concern.

Insight page

Malik Willis

NegativeUsage34:02

Malik Willis has only two carries through two weeks, far fewer than Kirk Cousins and Gino Smith; despite being brought in as a dynamic rushing threat and being under center 69-73% of the time (compared to barely under center last year), the Dolphins have not built a robust option game with him and Devon Etienne, two of the most athletic explosive guys in the NFL.

Insight page

Marcus Mariota

NegativeMatchup24:00

Marcus Mariota will start for the Commanders after Jaden Daniels' elbow injury. Mina Kimes identifies a tough matchup against the Seahawks' defense, emphasizing that Mariota cannot afford to drop back on third-and-long situations. While Mariota was effective in the Cowboys game and in stretches last year, the Seahawks' run defense makes this a brutal spot; Kimes notes she would have been worried for Daniels in this situation but feels more confident in Mariota's mobility, though it remains a difficult matchup.

Insight page

Marvin Harrison Jr.

NegativeRole50:06

Marvin Harrison Jr. assessments have dominated the conversation around the Cardinals offense to some degree, which makes the offense struggle even more. The speaker suggests the Cardinals should focus on running the ball and not put too much on Jacoby Brissett's shoulders, implying Harrison Jr. is receiving disproportionate offensive attention.

Insight page

Matthew Stafford

NegativeMatchup80:40

Mina Kimes emphasizes that Matthew Stafford's performance is highly dependent on pass protection: when kept clean, he's dominant ('night-night'), but when pressured he struggles significantly. She cites his poor performance against San Francisco and notes that the Giants didn't pressure him at all, yet he still struggled. The Broncos' defensive line—featuring Nick Benito and Zach Allen—looks good even without Jonathan Cooper, and Stafford's 2.9-second time to throw (86th percentile when kept clean) suggests Denver's pass rush could be disruptive in this matchup.

Insight page

Michael Penix Jr.

PositiveMatchup0:02

Penix Jr. faces a prime opportunity against the Packers' weak cornerback group; his perimeter-attacking style of play aligns well with Green Bay's defensive weaknesses, particularly given the Packers' strength at safety. Coming off two games where the Falcons offense never reached the red zone, this Thursday night standalone game represents a chance to prove he can play and potentially secure the starting job.

Insight page

Rhamondre Stevenson

PositiveRole0:16

Stevenson had a strong game against Pittsburgh, including a 39-yard touchdown run on a cover-six look. The Patriots ran the ball effectively when defenses presented split-safety looks, with Stevenson getting great blocks from Morgan Moses and receiving help from DebraJo Douglas clearing out the safety.

Insight page

Sam Darnold

NegativeInjury23:43

Mike McDonald reported that Sam Darnold is practicing and it's possible he will play in the Seahawks-Commanders game, though the status remains uncertain. The broader context suggests caution about rushing Darnold back: Mina Kimes notes it feels like a week where you don't necessarily need to push it, given the Seahawks' strong defense.

Insight page

Saquon Barkley

NegativeRole82:27

Mina Kimes expresses frustration that the Eagles' running game is not dominant, noting that the offense will never look as good as it did during Saquon Barkley's 2,000-yard season when the offensive line was road-grading opponents. She argues that the current Eagles offensive line is not at that historical level, so expectations should be adjusted accordingly. The Eagles can't run the ball effectively in Week 3.

Insight page

Tavon Austin

PositiveRole82:22

Mina Kimes highlights Tavon Austin (referred to as 'Tavian Wicks' in the transcript, likely a speaker error for Tavon Austin or another Eagles receiver) as having been so good that his strong performance is overshadowing the fact that another receiver (Makai Lemon) hasn't contributed much.

Insight page

Tony Pollard

PositiveUsage0:21

Pollard looked explosive and had a nice day against Philadelphia, particularly on under-center runs with nice cutbacks for big gains against the Philly front. The Titans offense looked better overall in Week 2, and Pollard's performance suggests the run game could be effective against the Giants' run defense, which looked vulnerable against the Rams.

Insight page
NegativeMatchup23:00

Mina Kimes expresses less confidence in Tony Pollard's ability to produce against the Titans' defense compared to the Titans' own offensive prospects. The context is that the Titans' front (led by Jeffrey Simmons) has impressed defensively, making it a difficult matchup for the Giants' running game.

Insight page

Trevor Lawrence

NegativeMatchup0:17

Lawrence has had an impressive run of games since his last matchup against Denver, but hasn't faced many top-level defenses during that stretch. The Patriots defense presents a significant challenge with tight man coverage that will test whether Lawrence and the Jaguars have answers, particularly if Brian Thomas Jr. cannot perform at the level expected.

Insight page

Tyler Shough

PositiveProjection55:52

Shough has shown a stark split between first and second halves through two weeks: first half QBR of 15 (29th league-wide), negative 0.1 EPA per dropback (27th), and 33% success rate (28th); second half QBR of 81 (5th league-wide), 13th EPA per dropback, and 12th success rate. The improvement is not situational (not playing from behind), but rather driven by faster decision-making (2.55 time to throw, second fastest in football in second halves) and better performance when kept clean. Mina Kimes notes that if the Saints can replicate second-half efficiency consistently, the offense becomes credible.

1:01The only NFL podcast where one of the hosts can't decide whether he's rooting for Kyle Pitts or Matthew Golden to score
1:09more points in this Thursday night game. Two dog named receivers.
1:13You don't have to explain it. We got it.
1:16We got it. We're not dumb. Two Americas, too.
1:19Not exactly a banger. Although I will say the fact that Michael Pennix Jr.
1:24is playing at least makes it compelling and watchable.
1:27That voice, of course, is Dominique Foxworth, the host of the Dominique Foxworth podcast, here to help me preview week three.
1:34Dominique, are you ready? Oh, yeah. Some decent matchups.
1:37Very backloaded, this one. So, as always, we're going to discuss all of the games.
1:42Some of them we're going to discuss faster than others.
1:46And I always go through and I pick like the five or six games where I think we both should discuss both sides of the ball.
1:55And it really was a lot of games later in the week.
1:59I was excited by Eagles Bears when I looked at the schedule earlier this year.
2:04But now we've got Case Keenum. I chose some games because I felt like we haven't talked about the teams in depth,
2:11including the 2-0 Las Vegas Raiders against the feisty New Orleans Saints.
2:15So, we're going to get to that one. But we are going to go in order.
2:21And we're going to start. Oh, did you see a light flicker?
2:25I think I just saw a light flicker. Freaked me out.
2:29I guess when I said the 2-0 Raiders, my room was like, whoa?
2:33With Falcons backers, I'm just doing a key for this one.
2:37And I'm not going to get hipster here. Can Michael Penix Jr.
2:41show us something? That's all I care about in this game because the Falcons offense has been unwatchable.
2:47They have not reached the red zone. Or wait, was it once?
2:51I forgot. The stat. It's been Cooper Rush with a little bit of Jack Strand.
2:57But Penix Jr. is finally cleared to play. Tua is also cleared to play.
3:01He's backing him up. Goes up against a Green Bay Packers defense that I thought played decently last week.
3:08Lucas Van Ness was amazing. Dominique, normally with Penix Jr., I'm always starting from this premise.
3:13Let's see where he aligns. And also, can he throw over the middle of the field at all?
3:20But I actually think against this Packers defense, given the weakness of their cornerback group and the strength of the spine, his
3:27style of play actually probably works better here in terms of throwing to the perimeter.
3:32What a spot for Michael Penix Jr. Like, congratulations, man.
3:36This is, you get to come off of two games where the quarterback play and the offense in general, I think the
3:43stat is they haven't been to the red zone at all this season.
3:48Yeah, so you get to come off of that.
3:51And then I know that the Packers played a little bit better on defense last week against the Jets, but you get
3:58a prime time, like isolated, standalone Thursday night game against a pretty weak defense.
4:03Like, this is his opportunity to prove everybody that he can play.
4:07I don't know what to expect. I think you're right about attacking outsides, but I don't know.
4:13Like, this Packers team seems, like, really volatile, especially offensively.
4:16Yeah. And that, so I wouldn't be surprised. And the Falcons defense isn't the 85 Bears, of course.
4:23I wouldn't be surprised if it turned into a lot of scoring.
4:27I was going to say it turns into a shootout, but that's assuming that the team that's never been to the red
4:34zone is going to score a lot of points.
4:37So I wouldn't be surprised if the Packers put up numbers.
4:41Then what Penix does with all those weapons, I think, could be interesting.
4:46Yeah, on the flip side, you're right. The Falcons defense is not scaring many people.
4:51I really hope after last week watching the Packers tape, Jordan Love is so obviously impacted by the injuries on the offensive line.
4:59The game they called was a great example of how when you don't trust your offensive line at all, you have to
5:06kind of cut the playbook in half. I mean, he had like a 2.3 second time to throw.
5:12It is not the Love that we're used to.
5:15So my hope is that maybe they feel a little bit more comfortable against the Falcons pass rush.
5:22Now, Zach Bacobole, their right tackle, is out for the season.
5:25Anthony Belton is going to play tackle. It is a dire, scary hours in Green Bay on the offensive line.
5:32But like, you know, the Falcons do not have very good pass rush.
5:37And Reid is out too, so they don't have their full complement, right, at receiver.
5:42So I don't know. Yeah, this game, I don't really know what to expect.
5:47Like, I trust Jordan Love. And I don't know, that might be about where it stops.
5:52Bijan's really good. Yeah, everything else, like, I'm not really sure what to expect, honestly.
5:57Packers, it's down to four and a half. I would say they opened at like seven.
6:03Maybe that was before the Panics News. Right now, they're at four and a half at home.
6:09I'm going to take Green Bay here, even though this does feel like Thursday night weirdness.
6:14And like you said, like, Panics Jr., like, this is such an incredible opportunity for him.
6:20Like, you have a fan base clamoring for you to start, despite the fact that before the injury, you were kind of
6:27inconsistent at best because of what they've had to endure the last couple of weeks.
6:32Like, if you could just show them anything in the passing game, you've got real potential to grab this job and never let it go.
6:41And also, you know, rebuild your NFL career after some injuries.
6:45So I'm just hoping that he looks healthy and is slinging it, because I think that would be really fun and I would enjoy it a lot more.
6:54All right, next game is you, Bengals Steelers. The Steelers, we talked about how bad the Falcons offense was or has been.
7:02And like the Steelers, I think, is on par.
7:05It's just as bad in my view. You know, I don't I didn't get a look of agreement from you.
7:12You'd rather have the Steelers offense than the than the Falcons offense.
7:16At least the Falcons have some like explosive plays like the Steelers best player, presume or like their supposed best player.
7:23DK Metcalf can't see it has had a tough time catching right now.
7:27Yeah. Yeah, it's been really, really ugly. I don't know what the path is to getting better, especially based on what we've
7:35seen from the Bengals defense, who we talked about on the pod earlier in the week as a winner.
7:42This is not your same old Bengals defense. I'm not really sure.
7:46Like the run defense looks to be vastly improved.
7:49I think for the Steelers, the Texans did have some success attacking linebackers through the air.
7:54Wouldn't be surprised if you take a similar tactic.
7:57There's really no need for like. If Aaron Rodgers tries to do, you know, go balls on the perimeter against these corners,
8:05that's not really a sustainable, I feel like, approach.
8:08Yeah. And I mean, I think the D line for the Bengals has been one of the stories of the season and
8:15the offensive line, honestly, the Bengals is better than I anticipated.
8:19So I, I feel comfortable at least with, with Mims in protection and the way that the D line is dominating.
8:26Like I don't see much of an avenue for the Steelers in this game.
8:31I think the most important thing, the reason why I'm interested in this game is I want to see the Bengals offense
8:39be the Bengals offense, because the, the story that we had coming into the season was we know that that is going to be here.
8:47The question is, can their defense get to at least average?
8:51I think I'm pretty sure that their defense is average or above at this point.
8:56And I'm waiting to see this offense be more consistent.
9:00And, and yeah, then they become like the real contender that we always expect them to be, but we're still in a situation.
9:08I think I mentioned this last time we talked about the Bengals, how Joe Burrow still gets hit a lot.
9:14And yeah. Oh, he took a lot of hits in the text.
9:19I, there was some unnecessary ones too, quite frankly, when he tried to scramble against Houston, it was the kind of a weird game.
9:27Right. We spent so much, we like the Bengals defense was kind of the story in some ways of the Texans game more so than the offense.
9:36Um, because that is the question early on the season, but like they didn't, it wasn't a very efficient day for Cincinnati.
9:44He just hit a few explosive outside of structure.
9:47And this Steelers defense looks quite good. The first two weeks of the season, I thought they were really impressive against new England.
9:55So that side of the ball does have some interest for me.
9:59Um, yeah, I, I, it is kind of funny, right.
10:02To say that about like, you got strength on strength with the Bengals offense versus Steelers defense.
10:08But I think we both feel so much better about the Bengals defense through the first two weeks.
10:14Well, last year would have been a week, like, okay, evenly matched both sides.
10:19Now it feels like this Bengals defense is too much for Pittsburgh's offense based on what we've seen before we move on really quickly.
10:27Cause I haven't talked about them at all. Like the Steelers defense, new patch, new defensive coordinator, Patrick Graham, uh, you know,
10:35before the season, I was kind of enthusiastic about maybe seeing some changes in what they were doing instead of just playing
10:42cover three and man all the time. What have you seen early on from this unit?
10:48I assume we're both on the Bengals here, by the way.
10:51Yeah, I definitely on the Bengals here, but you're asking about the Steelers defense.
10:56Like this is what you expected from the Steelers defense last year.
11:00I guess I should say that I'm not surprised, but I am a little bit without Joey Porter too.
11:07Like they're holding up. Jamel Dean is there. Yeah.
11:10They're attacking Jamel Dean probably more often than on the other side, but he's doing fine.
11:15He's good enough. Like they're staying in these games without the support of an offense.
11:21That's going to hold onto the ball for a long time or put up big numbers.
11:26Whereas I've been super impressed with this defense. And of course, TJ Watt is impacted.
11:31Watt, Hayward, Highsmith. Like these play, these were the players that we thought would be awesome last year and they weren't consistently.
11:39And they are right now. And through, for two weeks, they've been impressive.
11:43And should they get the contract situation figured out?
11:46I think it's, I think they're saying that it's a back for Joey Porter, but like, I think it's also a little bit of need.
11:55Some of that money might make the backfield better for Joey Porter.
11:59If they get that figured out, then yeah, this defense is even better, but I don't know.
12:05This is the off season conversation. Probably just the confusing way.
12:09The Steelers are going about running their organization. It doesn't seem like it's, they have much of a plan.
12:15All right. Patriots Jaguars. We're both going to discuss this game.
12:19Yeah. So it's to reiterate, we're both Cincinnati there.
12:22This is a good one. It's the Pats coming off of a win.
12:26You're not feeling super great about against Pittsburgh. The Jags coming off of a loss to the Denver Broncos after they let up in the second half.
12:36I'll go first. I've got one side of the ball.
12:39I've got the new England offense against the Jaguars defense.
12:43And I wrote, can the Jags get interior pressure in this game?
12:47Because again, it's going back. I said, I was impressed by the Steelers defense.
12:51I was. Drake may just still look so uncomfortable to me.
12:55And in granted, he's gone up against maybe the best, definitely the best defense in the NFL in Seattle.
13:02We feel pretty good saying that now. A Steelers defense that we just discussed has a very good pass rush.
13:09And I thought had a good game plan for him, but he just doesn't look as confident as he did last year.
13:16Last season. And, and it really shows up against pressure.
13:20Um, and you go into this game. I think the center has really struggled.
13:24Jared Wilson, uh, who's playing the position, you know, he was the guard last year.
13:30Uh, Mike and when you went down with an injury.
13:33So Greg wrote in starting, who's like, he's so old at this point.
13:37I know he's been in the league forever. Um, and you know, I, there's definitely a vulnerability on that Patriots offensive line.
13:45Now on the flip side, kind of the other side of Denver's offense, figuring out in a second half was, I was
13:53really underwhelmed by the Jacks defensive line. Right. the four man rush had an 18% pressure rate, which is very low.
14:00Josh Hines Allen finished the game with zero pressures outside of Jervon Walker.
14:04No one else. The defensive tackles, Armstead, et cetera, had also zero pressures.
14:09So it was, I, and granted Nick stores the ball quickly.
14:12Denver's offensive line is very good, but they have to be better than that.
14:17Um, really against this Patriots team. So to me, it starts at the line of scrimmage.
14:23That was stunning for me. Like that was one of the games that I had to go back and watch.
14:30I didn't watch live. So I saw the score and assume that the Jacks defense played well, but they didn't really through the course of that game.
14:39The Broncos kind of moved the ball on them.
14:42And your point about pressure, there was no pressure.
14:45The Broncos didn't score on every drive that red zone turnovers and other mistakes.
14:50And finally got it done in the fourth quarter.
14:53But I was severely disappointed in that Jacks defense, but the other side of the ball, uh, yeah.
14:59Oh, can I say something about Drake may also pressure, the pressure is the problem to me.
15:05And the way that they solve the pressure is by keeping more guys in the block, which then you have fewer guys.
15:12Yeah. To make, I just feel like everyone in that Patriots offense, the offensive room is scared right now.
15:19The play caller is scared, the quarterback. And to your point, like one thing I was notable, I thought Drake looked so much better when he was blitzed.
15:29Yeah. He's got the answer. He's accurate. Ball's coming out fast.
15:32Right. It feels like right now, this team has no confidence in their past protection and it's permeated.
15:38And then there, there, there was still some issues with him against zone coverage.
15:43There's like a discomfort. Yeah. But I would say that those things are connected.
15:48It's like the, yeah, the way that you play effective zone coverage is with pressure.
15:53Like zones will break down if you have plenty of time, but there's not someone in their face.
15:59So like, I do think that it's the combination of them not being able to protect and you need multiple receivers to overload zones and to clear out.
16:09And they're keeping guys in, but like, yeah, you either need to have time to get multiple guys in the one zone
16:17to break down a zone or have time for the zone to break down.
16:21And he's either under pressure or anticipating pressure. So it doesn't look comfortable.
16:26So like, I think much has been made of how he struggled in zone, but I think it's less about him.
16:33Like not understanding his own pressure and the lack of receiving options.
16:37That's a really great call on that. But I will say one thing the Patriots did against new England though, that was
16:45encouraging to see is so the Steelers played a lot of split safety, like cover six style looks and they ran the ball really well.
16:53And because it's an invitation to run the touchdown, the Travian Henderson touchdown, the 39 yarder, that was a cover six look, hands it off.
17:02You get great blocks from Morgan Moses and the skill players.
17:06Debraio Douglas coming across and clearing out the safety pop.
17:09Love that. So if new England can continue to run the ball, when defenses present those looks, that'll also help Drake may
17:17not just in terms of buying time to your point, but also getting some more of the coverages.
17:23He's a little bit more comfortable with. Okay. Jags offense.
17:26Yeah. Jags offense. Yeah. Yeah. They, they're going to, I mean, the Patriots defense, honestly, like it's, it's a, it's a bit
17:34similar as far as like the type of coverages that they're going to see to the Broncos that they just went up against.
17:42And they had a fit with that. I think the, we were all getting, or I speak for myself.
17:48I was getting pretty hype about the run of games that Trevor Lawrence has had since the last time he was in
17:56Denver until now, but it hasn't been filled with a bunch of great defenses.
18:00And we saw him make some impressive, incredible throws throughout that stretch and put up impressive numbers, but it hasn't all been
18:08against this top level defense, especially the tight man coverage that's going to challenge Trevor Lawrence.
18:13And so I think that's kind of the question, do they have answers there?
18:18And it's Brian Thomas jr. is always the name that comes up to me when I think about them is that like
18:26that would change the complexion of all this. If he turned into the receiver, turned back into the receiver that we thought he was after his rookie year.
18:35I one point during the game, I, I stood up and screamed, catch the ball.
18:41Do you ever do that? Oh yeah, of course.
18:44That's the one thing I can't, it's like a Plovian response.
18:47I see. I'm just checking to see if they actually charted him with the drop.
18:53Cause he, he had one. They definitely, I don't know if they put it down, but I saw one.
18:59I saw it and I was not happy. Yeah, they did.
19:03Okay. Brian Thomas jr. Denver versus Jacksonville. Two drops.
19:06Yeah. Two drops. Okay. Yeah. That's what I thought.
19:09Yeah. Yeah. And then the turnovers that the interception that he had late in the game, it just, he seemed like he
19:17just short, short circuits at a certain point. So that's the huge question.
19:21I mean, I I've been impressed with the Patriots defense up until this point, but this will be a bigger challenge for,
19:29for them going forward to see if they can keep Drake may afloat until they figure out the offense.
19:35I think one it's advantageous for Jacksonville that they're not like a one receiver dominant team when you're going up against Christian
19:43Gonzalez, who has even the best corner of all.
19:46It seems like you're right. Unbelievable. Uh, worth every damn penny.
19:49Um, because like, it's like, all right, take out BTJ.
19:53Fine. I mean, you know, like there's a comfort level, like this Jags offense is not, it's about passing, passing the ball around.
20:01There's not a, a primary target here. So I'm going to take Jacksonville.
20:05Uh, I do think in the Denver team game, I still think they played well.
20:10I think there was just execution errors. And I think the Broncos offensive line, the Bronco, the Bo Nix, I thought played
20:18really well in the second half, but I think that it wasn't like a collapse.
20:23I wasn't like, Oh, they stink. There was just some misses here and there.
20:28It's close game. And whereas with new England, I just want to see Drake may look like Drake may.
20:34And I, and I think he will, and maybe he will in this game, but I'm going off of what we've seen so far this season.
20:43Yeah. I think that's the right call. I'm, I'm with you on that one.
20:48I feel more confident. Um, and the Jags return into what they were, then the pets anytime soon.
20:54Who's next Titans giants. Is this the biggest stinker of the week?
20:58Did I give it to myself? Oh yeah. Injury with the dart injury.
21:03Um, what I'm going to cause a key here is kind of a continuation of what we, wow.
21:09The giants are favored against the Titans. It's at home, but still, uh, that's my, yeah.
21:14Um, I guess I, I mean, like I, I, I agree with the premise that James Winston is going to be better
21:22than what we saw on Monday night, but still, um, so along those lines for the Titans defense, I would blitz James
21:30Winston and like the Rams did, unless he proves that he, they can beat it.
21:35Um, but I also, the thing I wanted to highlight for the Titans, cause I went back, I was a little bit late to watching Titans Eagles.
21:44I thought Tony Pollard looks, the whole offense looked better.
21:47I thought Cam Ward actually played, he played fine.
21:50It certainly compared to week one. I think you saw some improvement there, but I thought Pollard in particular jumped out to
21:58me as having a nice day at the office.
22:01And he looked explosive on those under center runs in particular against Philadelphia.
22:06Um, some really nice cutbacks for big gains against that Philly front, very light box centric defense.
22:11So this is it with New York, right? Like if you can run the ball on them at like the Rams, we
22:19just talked about, they really can't affect you rushing the passer.
22:23And, um, I think, you know, I, I'm not totally sold on this giants run defense after what we saw.
22:30I know the Rams are probably one of the two or three best run games in football, but they look pretty bad.
22:37Yeah. I agree with you there. I, I can't bring myself to picking Jameis Winston.
22:42I know you said that their favorite, but like, I saw that game.
22:47I'm not sure what, uh, what you would expect.
22:50And the Titans defense, um, I was impressed with the Titans defense against the Eagles.
22:55I know the Eagles offensive line, isn't what it was, but like if the expectation is that you're just going to run
23:02the ball, the way that you did it good against the Cowboys against this Titans front with Jeffrey Simmons.
23:09Like, I don't know how they get points if they can't run the ball and Jameis is and you're asking James to throw a bunch.
23:18Yeah. They might hit a couple, but we know, we know the book on James is going to give it back to you.
23:25I just feel better about maybe the Titans. I know it's on the road, but maybe the Titans trying to finding a
23:33way to score some points, uh, more than I do about, to your point, Tony Pollard running the ball more than I
23:41do about the Titans or, excuse me, about the Giants.
23:44Seahawks commanders. Next. Next. Mike McDonald told reporters today that Sam Darnold, Darnold is practicing.
23:49So it's possible he will play. Does he have to, uh, I think a legitimate question.
23:55Uh, the commanders will of course be starting Marcus Mariota after Jane Daniels went down with the elbow.
24:01What is your key in this game? Dominic. I mean, I, it's, they're like eight of them and they're all on the, are on, um, Seahawks side.
24:10I mean, the first thing is Jason. He's been, um, the key to the Seahawks being able to score any points in either of these games.
24:19And he's been special. So like, I think that is where I'm focused at, particularly against those, um, that Washington secondary that
24:26has been a lot less impressive than, than Jason.
24:30Mikey's here still, man. Mikey's having a rough start.
24:33He's a rookie. Yeah. He's having a rough start.
24:36So like that's, that would be my key. And then of course, on the other side of the ball, uh, they can't
24:43have Marcus dropping back to pass on third and long.
24:47So like, I honestly, I, my first and second down is trying to get me the first, first down or get the third and three.
24:55If I'm at third and six or above, like I'm calling a screen or a check down or something like, uh, it's,
25:03it's not likely you're converting that, uh, just let the clock run.
25:07Like it's a tough spot to be in. And, and, Marietta was good in the Cowboys game and he was good in
25:14stretches last year when he replaced Jaden Daniels. But, um, I would have been worried for Jaden Daniels in this spot.
25:22Honestly, I feel much more confident in him, but it's a tough spot against this defense.
25:27Jeremiah, I love had nine carries at 3.2 yards per carry against Seattle game.
25:32Obviously got a little underhand out of hand in week one, the Patriots backs combined for, I think less than two yards carry.
25:40Stephens, this run defense is, I think with, I think the commanders with Mariota can win games.
25:46They really can, but not, yeah. Yeah. Against defenses that struggle against the run because obviously he gives you that same mobility.
25:53Um, but yeah, this is, that's a brutal matchup.
25:56I, it does. You never want to say, why rush Darnold?
26:00Who cares? It's so easy. Cause that's like tempting fate, but it does feel like a week where you don't necessarily need to push it.
26:09Also, drew lock. Yeah. Hooping. It's even, it's even the, the spiciest, most fun backup.
26:14I feel like we're about to see a bunch more.
26:17So, yeah. I mean, Wentz got two wins, but it wasn't quite the same.
26:22I know he didn't start the first game, but the way that he's winning, he won with nine points last week.
26:29It's not the same as throwing three touchdowns to JSN.
26:33He has been, um, lock's been fun. Lock also just, if it's JSN, he letting that bit fly.
26:39Like, no window is too tight. He's like, you know what?
26:43All right. It's like some of the end zone views on these throws are preposterous.
26:48Yeah. Uh, yeah, I respect it too. I know.
26:51Give me a backup quarterback. Who's at least going to be tries and stuff, you know, famous last words until, you know,
26:58you get three interception game and you're like, I'll try to guess you have too much.
27:04Okay. I got jets lions here. Um, I just finished watching.
27:08The jets offense back. So. key here is the jets receivers against the lions.
27:12DBs. Mm-hmm. I say this, uh, because the jets receivers are good.
27:17Yeah. Um, and it's not just Garrett Wilson. Adonai Mitchell has like, he, he, they went, you, they, right.
27:23Leaning into trying to get the targets. I forgot to write them down against green Bay.
27:29Yeah. They threw it over 12 times. Um, I thought also going back and watching Gino wasn't amazing in this game.
27:36He was fine, but obviously that didn't throw interception.
27:39So there's definitely some improvement in that regard. But the other thing that jumped out, like I coming into this season, I
27:46wasn't sure after last season of Gino's arm was kind of cooked and he's willing to throw it deep and actually drew
27:54a couple of penalties, gave the receivers chances. One should have been caught.
27:58Um, so you get now the opportunity to go up against the lion secondary that just lost Devante Maddox.
28:05Maybe it'll be rock you sin again. DJ Reed.
28:08Yeah. It's pretty brutal out there. Like, and it's certainly a mismatch with these receivers.
28:13So I just feel like if Gino can take care of the football and if the jets offensive line, which is decent
28:21holds up, there's going to be some real opportunities in the passing game against this Detroit team.
28:27Slide at the hutch, make sure he's blocked and, and, and feast.
28:31Oh yeah. I, I don't think, and Gino's been good.
28:34I think, um, relative to expectations. And this is, uh, another off season conversation.
28:39This is probably the opposite of the Steelers and that they have three first round picks next year and they have a good quarterback.
28:47So the current offense can develop like guys aren't just, languishing waiting for a quarterback savior.
28:53They have someone who's playing well enough so that they can, um, grow and get better.
28:58And we're in, they're demonstrating like the receivers are getting better.
29:02The receivers are getting more and more comfortable. The tackles are, are dealing with the challenges of protecting a guy who is not quite as mobile.
29:11Um, like, I think that situation is good for them.
29:14they also need, if the game is close, I don't have faith in the jets.
29:19This is like that cliche of not knowing how to win a game.
29:24Yeah. Yeah. They like fall perfectly into it. Not a cliche when your head coach can't.
29:29Right. But I think like, like it's actually like, Ooh, there might be like legitimate.
29:34No, no, no, no. No. I guess you, you take cliche as meaning that it's not true.
29:40Okay. Cliche is just something that people say a lot.
29:44I'm saying that this puts, this puts, um, a definition to the cliche where you can clearly see what people mean when they say that.
29:52Yeah. And that's it. It's like where you just don't, you're making the bad, the wrong decisions all the time.
29:59It was really bad in that situation where he was kind of confused.
30:04And, um, that's not quite the same thing on the other side sideline with Dan Quinn, but we'll see, or not Dan
30:11Quinn, Dan Campbell, but we'll see how it works out.
30:15Um, just defense has looked okay, but you know, hasn't really been tested Titans.
30:19You got the Packers with their offensive line situation.
30:22Um, you know, the Packers could have run the ball, but I don't think the Packers would be able to run the ball generally.
30:31Uh, obviously this is a pretty poor significant test in Detroit.
30:34So I'm going lines here kind of in part because of what you said, which is even if it's close, um, I'm
30:42going to defer to Detroit, but I do, I just don't, I, the Jets have matchup advantages here, you know, and a
30:49quarterback who is willing to give his two very, his two receiver.
30:54Maybe I'm being a little bit too high on 80 Mitchell after two weeks, but so funny too.
31:00When the trade happened, he was just like seen as a throw in for sauce garden, right?
31:06Coming from Indianapolis. And he is very clearly their wide receiver too.
31:10And looks better than several wide receiver twos around league.
31:13So, all right, you're up Panthers Browns. Panthers Browns.
31:16All right. So I, I viewed this from like the Panther side because like, I think they should be expected to win
31:24this game and you got to find a way to contain Boston and don't turn the ball over.
31:30And I think you're a better team as excited as people, not excited, but as well, as people thought Deshaun Watson played,
31:37it was grading on a Deshaun Watson scale where you go back and watch it.
31:43It's like, he didn't play great, but like he was okay.
31:46And like, it's a lot of short. Yeah. It was a lot of short passes.
31:523.7 areas per attempt. Oh, that's what it was.
31:55Yeah. It was a lot of short passes and then like explosive plays.
31:59One is Denzel Boston broke a bunch of tackles for a 50 yard touchdown.
32:04Like you can't do that. Another one's like a fade to Denzel Boston.
32:08And it was short fields provided by the bucks making mistakes.
32:12So I think that you could come out of this game.
32:16Thinking like the Browns are a lot better than they were the week prior, but I feel like it was a lot
32:23more about the bucks, putting them in these situations and, and in the game being close at the end, I, I, I
32:31see this from, from the, the Panthers side is like, if you don't give it to them, you'll be fine.
32:38The bucks linebacker play was abysmal in this last game.
32:41Um, Harold fan and junior is still wide open right now against them.
32:46Uh, I, I have Harold fan and, and I see, so I loved it, but if I'm a bucks fan, I would not love it.
32:54Uh, now you up against Panthers defense where I, Devin Lloyd, just sensational for them.
32:59And really nice to see them get a bounce back after week one, which was an invisible display of tackling, but that
33:07obviously comes with the caveat that it was against good brush.
33:11So not that Watson is that much more significant of a test, but I think there's like, okay, awful week one, great week to do it again.
33:20And because the Panthers offense has more than held up their side of the equation.
33:25Bryce young has been lighting it up. So I agree.
33:29I just wrote down Panthers tackle, like, please just tackle in this one.
33:33Um, I do want to talk about the Panthers offense in more depth.
33:37Let's see on the schedule because I just, this game, I was just like, I can't, I can't, I just haven't found the right spot.
33:46Um, okay. So goes bears Falcons. Okay. So they got the lions next week.
33:51Yeah. Panthers fans. I promise. I'm going to give your Panthers some attention.
33:55Uh, and love if this week goes as planned.
33:58Uh, yeah, I'm taking Carolina here for the Browns.
34:02How about you? Yeah. I'm the same. I got Carolina for this one.
34:06Chief dolphins. We'll be quick on this one. This is my game.
34:10I just want to complain about something. It's been two games last week against the Niners.
34:16And again, I know the game got out of hand, whatever.
34:19Malik Willis had two carries on the season. He has eight carries, which is fewer than Kirk cousins and Gino Smith.
34:27Now again, game script. I know it plays into this.
34:30Dolphins are obviously playing from behind, but last year he had 40.
34:34Devon H. Chan last year led the league in explosive runs, 10 yard plus runs.
34:39Oh, sorry. I 40 is not intendably. We'll listen to that 40.
34:43I meant to say Devon H and I mixed up my numbers.
34:47Let me do that. Let me repeat. Devon H and last year had 40 explosive runs, which led the NFL so far through two weeks.
34:56He has two. Two, this Dolphins run game should be so much better than it is with those two.
35:03Those are two of the most athletic explosive guys in the NFL.
35:07Also he's under center. H and her center 69% of the time or 73% of the time.
35:12Last year, he was barely under center. I thought you go out, you get Malik Willis, who's this dynamic rushing threat.
35:20I know around the NFL design quarterback runs are down.
35:23How is there not a more robust option game with these two players?
35:28Yes. Bobby slow it. I'm talking to you. I'm so impressed that you could build.
35:33You could have that much passion for a Dolphins game.
35:36That's it. That is incredible. Shout out Bobby. Get it together.
35:40Bobby. Bobby's world. Hand it off. Let Malik run.
35:43Yeah. I assume we're both on the cheese here.
35:46She's a good at football. They're going to win by a lot of points.
35:51Okay. Chargers bills. Ooh, you. Yeah. It's a, Ed Oliver coming back.
35:55Not yet. Maybe. I don't know. Dion Walker or is, is all I need for the interior of that Chargers front.
36:02If you have Ed in Dion, like it'd be great.
36:06Yeah. I think it's Dion. I don't, I also heard Dion, but I don't pretty sure it's Dion.
36:12Um, yeah, that is a mismatch. Of course. Um, Vlad McConkie should be healthy available for this game.
36:18Uh, it's pretty ugly outside of him right now in LA.
36:22I think. I feel. Okay. Let, let's put, put it to you this way.
36:27Which side of the ball do you think is more likely to bounce back for the Chargers?
36:32The offense or the defense? I mean, I guess it has to be the offense.
36:38Yeah. Right. Because the, the defense will be going up against the strength of the bills.
36:43I mean, they're rushing attack in the way that their offense in general, obviously is seem to make the, the head coach change was about.
36:52We want to be aggressive. Right. And they are going after people offensively.
36:56And there's no reason to believe that if the two teams that they played so far, slow them down, haven't slowed them
37:04down, that this team is going to slow them down.
37:07So yeah, the offense has the pieces if a healthy McConkie and maybe they can figure out what to do interior with the interior line.
37:16And, um, Jim Leonard's defense hasn't become all that much better than we thought it was.
37:21It's, it's different than I anticipated being like, it's a lot more zone.
37:26Um, if you thought he was going to bring a lot of the Denver stuff, I guess he's bringing more of the
37:33Wisconsin stuff than the Denver stuff, but it, it's been like inconsistent as hell.
37:38So, uh, that's where I, if I were to charge is I'd be more optimistic.
37:43Yeah. I will say about the charges defense. The, the one thing that LA has done well is stop the run.
37:50So at least with Buffalo, but the, you just think about all the bills, explosive plays we've seen over the last two
37:58weeks and all of the explosives, you know, the fact that we've seen this charge defense, which used to do not give
38:05up explosives at all struggle in that regard. Um, but yeah, I feel like offense is where my eye, you know, it's
38:13just because it's just been such a comedy of errors in terms of execution and the run game, uh, drops, bad plays
38:20by everyone, non offense that they're just, they're not, I think it's safe to say you're not, they're not gonna be a
38:28top 10 unit, but they're better than the product that they've put out thus far.
38:33I always wonder this question and it goes for offenses and defenses and, and everyone, I was thinking about it a lot for the Cowboys.
38:42It's like, would you rather have like, and I guess the answer is you'd rather there be a bunch of different mistakes than be like one glaring issue.
38:51Cause I guess you can convince yourself that we aren't bad at these things.
38:56We just slipped up and we can like address it.
38:59If you just like the Cowboys, it's like their run fits are so inconsistent where like, you can convince yourself that we
39:07could consistently have the right run fits. We could be good at stopping the run.
39:12It's a great question. Cause it kind of brings up what's fixable and what's not team.
39:18Right. I think I tend to go to, have I seen this player be good before?
39:23Okay. I've seen Vlad McConkie and Justin Herbert be good.
39:27I've seen a Marian Hampton look explosive. I've seen like some of these players block better than they are.
39:33So, uh, you know, taking Buffalo here. Um, I, I, like I said, I would, I think for the bills now, I'm
39:41like kind of the offenses we already know going to be a top three unit.
39:46I am watching this bills defense with more curiosity because, you know, through the first two weeks they have given up a
39:53lot of points granted to good opponents. So let's see.
39:57Can they, well, Texans are offenses. Pretty good. Well, that's what's next.
40:01Texans Colts, uh, big game because somebody is about to start season.
40:05Oh, and three. Um, and I don't think anyone thought, not, not maybe no one thought, but the Texans were a preseason darling.
40:13They've lost close. Well, it wasn't that close to Cincinnati.
40:16It felt closer than it was. Week one was close.
40:20Um, and it just, it's been weird because the defense is still, I think we still think is very good.
40:27And they actually played well last week. I thought the offense has been fine.
40:31They still can't run the ball. So I'll start there.
40:35That's my side of the ball. Um, I've got a key that's really based on what I've seen from this Indianapolis defense
40:42early on, but particularly thinking about, uh, the Sunday night game against Kansas city.
40:47Attack the linebackers. Cause geez, Andy Reed clearly went into that game.
40:51Drew a big circle. Kyle Shanahan style around a King Dave's gather in Jalen Carly's who, I mean, if Travis Kelsey, look,
40:59hall of famer, one of the greatest to ever do it.
41:03But if he's putting up 101 yards on you, you probably have a problem in the middle of the field.
41:09Um, but it wasn't just him, the running backs, the chiefs running backs also were a big part of the passing game.
41:17Kenneth Walker and Emma Johnson. Um, and I think Houston can do the same.
41:22Dalton Schultz actually had the most targets without Nico Collins against Cincinnati.
41:26That was also clearly their plan in that game to attack the backers.
41:30I think in this one, I think Nico is going to be back.
41:35But even with that said, if Houston isn't aggressively going after the second level of the Colts defense, they've made a mistake.
41:42I'll also add, they didn't play a lot of 12 personnel last week, which is something I thought we would see more of against Cincinnati without Nico Collins.
41:52So I'm curious to see if they bring that back a bit as well.
41:57And the corners of the Colts are not healthy.
42:00So like, it's, uh, I guess you may not have the receivers to exploit it for the Texans, but, um, that's another
42:07spot that feels weak about that defense. And from the other side of the ball, um, I, the numbers didn't bear this
42:15out as much as I expected, but I haven't been, I've been surprised at the Texans run defense through the course of these, um, first two weeks.
42:24It wasn't as dominant as I expected it to be.
42:28And of course that is the, the strength of what the Colts do is run the ball with Jonathan Taylor.
42:34So like, I think that's going to tell me a lot.
42:38We talked about this last week is that this team is this defense, the Texans defense is predicated on winning on early
42:46downs and allowing their pass rushers to do work and, uh, putting their really great corners in those coverage situations where they can create big plays and turnovers.
42:55So that would, that's what it simply boils down to me right there is how they can win those early downs.
43:03Of course, that's the run game, but it's also the short pass game.
43:07They're not going to be dumb enough. I think to voluntarily, unless the game gets out of hand, just do five, seven
43:15step drops and sit back there and, um, and dare them.
43:18You have to force them into that situation, which is where they are at their best.
43:24This is one where I think Daniel Jones's mobility, uh, is very important because the first two weeks of the season, both
43:31Josh Allen and Joe Burrow were able to punish Houston's defense explosive plays when they were able to extend.
43:38That was a big thing with Burrow, right? Like the big plays were kind of second, mostly second reaction plays.
43:45Um, and that's when the season, like Jones has looked fine on the move on booting, but he, you know, is he
43:52actually capable of escaping the pocket, making a play outside of structure, something that's probably going to be important against this team in particular.
44:01Yeah, we'll see. I think, I mean, he looks amazing considering just, yeah, but, but, uh, yeah, there is no, um, pass rushing on a curve.
44:09Like they are going to rush you as if you are fully healthy.
44:14So he has to be able to move. Now that was thinking actually against the chiefs.
44:19Cause against the Ravens, uh, okay. So yeah, it's early on zero completions against the Ravens on the run against the chiefs on the run.
44:28Daniel Jones went three for six for 15 yards.
44:31So right now that's not been part of his game.
44:34Um, going to Houston here. I got burned last week by saying the Texans defense was going to bounce back and be angry.
44:42Uh, but you know, the Bengals are a very good team and I don't think the Colts are.
44:49Yeah. I'm with you. And, um, yeah, diamond studded earpieces about the fire.
44:53Some people. I like those things. I tried to get somebody to make me some, but they weren't trying to do it.
45:01It was the morning after, uh, I was on get up on Tuesday.
45:05So I emailed the producer at like 1130. It was like, you think somebody could get me, could bedazzle my earpiece so
45:13I can, I can pull that move off. Would you be on the sideline if you were an owner or would you be in the mix?
45:21I don't think so. Like I, I might be listening in, but I feel like I'd be in the box.
45:28I don't know. Like it feels, that's one of the things I, I, you gotta wait for the right time.
45:35You gotta wait until I will wait. It feels me.
45:39I would wait until we were, I knew we were going to like have a big win.
45:44Then I would come back. Of course. In the glory fourth quarter show up, but I don't really see the benefit.
45:52It just seems weird that like on the sideline, the head coach supposed to be in charge.
45:57If I'm lurking around, it just feels undercutty. But anyway.
46:01Lurking. All right, let's take a break. Come back.

48:02All right, we're back. Cardinals-Niners, probably not one of those bitter games.
48:06It's my game. What the San Francisco offense did to Miami.
48:10Miami is the worst defense in the NFL, right?
48:13We're pretty comfortable. I mean, because Dallas and Carolina kind of got it together in week two to some degree.
48:20Again, it's the Dolphins. Brock Purdy went 20 for 22 for 287 yards and two touchdowns.
48:26That's 13 yards per attempt. It's a 91% completion rate.
48:29Pitch and catch, baby. Okay, so the San Francisco offense is really good.
48:33And I think the Cardinals defense you really saw against Seattle.
48:37Some of the vulnerabilities there. But I'm going to go to the other side of the ball because I think for San
48:45Francisco, the weakness showed up a little bit in week one.
48:49And they weren't obviously not tested in this game.
48:52But I do think they can be beaten on the ground.
48:55And you really saw that against the Rams. Again, the Rams are a very good run game.
49:01But I went back and watched some of the Dolphins runs.
49:05And I'll talk about the Dolphins in a minute.
49:08And the defensive line in San Francisco kind of gets pushed around.
49:12CJ West, I watched the Rams once too. Osa, Dugizua, Keon White.
49:16There's some vulnerability there. Dre Greenlaw behind them. So, you know, Arizona, last week game script kind of got away from them.
49:24So, Jeremiah Love couldn't really run the football that much against Seattle.
49:28But you drafted a running back third overall, man.
49:31If you can't start running the football better than what we've seen, that's going to look like a really, really rough decision.
49:39So, I'm looking at this Niners defense that plays a lot of light boxes.
49:43And I really want to see Arizona play some bully ball against them.
49:48Yeah. I think you're right. I think that's the way to go about, I'm going to say attacking this team.
49:55But honestly, like going forward, that's like should be the Cardinals game plan.
49:59And Jacoby Brissette's another guy who's like solid. But like you don't want to put too much on his shoulders.
50:06And it feels like it might just be my algorithm, but it's been taken over with Marvin Harrison Jr.
50:13Like assessments to some degree, which like that makes the offense struggle even more.
50:17But yeah, I think that's the way you go to challenge this team.
50:22But I still like, I don't know, the way the 49ers are playing right now.
50:27And I guess it skewed a bit because we got a version of the Rams week one that I think it's hard
50:34for any of us to like definitively say that it was the flight.
50:39But it didn't seem like the real version of Rams.
50:42And then they got the Dolphins. So like they look like world beaters, but maybe they haven't really been tested yet.
50:50So I don't know. I wouldn't be shocked, I guess, if Arizona won this game.
50:55The Niners? Oh, really? You're going to pick Niners, but you wouldn't be shocked.
51:00I'm taking the Niners as well. Well, the Niners get Denver week four and Seattle week five.
51:05There we go. We'll see. Time to get down to business.
51:09Afternoon games. Yeah, I'm taking the Niners here too.
51:12I mean, they look excellent early on, but like you said, opponent is of note.
51:17All right. You have Vikings. Kyler Murray's back. Tampa.
51:20Wolf, Wolf. They were one of our losers earlier this week.
51:24Both sides of the ball. What is your key in this game?
51:28It's a must-win game for Tampa, it feels like.
51:31Yeah. I mean, of course, we can't enter a Vikings game without discussing Brian Flores right now.
51:37The way that that game was called was excellent.
51:40There also was like, considering that they only had three points, there was some movement of the ball.
51:46It's not impossible to move the ball on this Flores defense.
51:50But Baker historically has been better against the Blitz than most quarterbacks, so that might work to his advantage.
51:57This Blitz is a little different than most teams' Blitzes, but he's not a quarterback that I think shrivels in the Blitz.
52:04And the numbers support that historically. He's been better against the Blitz than most quarterbacks.
52:09But this is still a Bucky Irving game, a screen game, a Bucky Irving running game.
52:15That, to me, is the question. But I had high hopes for the Bucs.
52:20I think we did our defensive draft, and I had them pretty high when I was on your show.
52:26And my whole premise of this team was like, great offensive line.
52:30This defense is going to be incredible. The defense has not done that.
52:35The front has been getting their ass kicked in a way that I did not anticipate.
52:40I thought they were going to be dominating people.
52:43And they're out there. People aren't hurt. Vita Veda's out there.
52:47They're healthy, yeah. Yeah, not kicking ass. Bucky's offensive line is good, too.
52:52Yeah, so that, to me, is this defense has to play up to their level of ability.
52:57And I like the screen and run game to Bucky Irving on the other side.
53:03And then, of course, there's this looming question on the other side where it's like, what is Kyler Murray?
53:09I assume he's going to be better than Carson Wentz.
53:13But we'll see. Well, that's what I'm most intrigued by in this game because I think we, at this point, know what the Viking defense is.
53:21Vikings defense, pardon me. Man, talk about defensive drafts.
53:25Yes, I was on the Bucs, too. I remember I had the Vikings six in defense, and then I felt bad about it.
53:32I forgot if I had JP on. Because I was looking at the personnel, I was like, I don't know.
53:39Yeah. I feel bad. And, oh, my God. I mean, it's just been two weeks, I understand.
53:45But those are strong divisional opponents. I know the Packers offensive line is in this situation.
53:51You could argue that Brian Flores' tape through two weeks probably better than any coach both sides of the football right now in the NFL.
53:59And some of the individual players, you know, Dallas Turner, I think, has kind of entered made the leap territory.
54:06You don't like some of those sacks against tight ends.
54:09I see you. I know you're talking about competition.
54:13Okay, here's a more hipster name. Jalen Redman is unbelievable.
54:16Their defensive team. He's been pretty good for a while.
54:19But holy mackerel against Chicago. I was watching, like, thinking this dude is slurring.
54:24I was so excited about Caleb Banks. And so when I'm watching the plays, I'm like, that must be Caleb Banks.
54:31No, it's not. It's not Caleb Banks. He's not.
54:34He ain't it. It ain't. It's not him. We get too excited about first round rookies like Ruben Banks, Caleb Banks.
54:42And then you watch and then it's like some, like, fourth rounder from, like, 2022 who's, like, the best player in the league.
54:50I'm not saying this, but I don't even know if Redman.
54:53I know he's not. He's a late rounder, I think, maybe, or something.
54:58Anyways, he's been unbelievable. Yeah. I peek behind the curtain.
55:01Sometimes I'll text Dominique plays and ask, like, what's going on in coverage here?
55:06And I was almost going to send you a bunch of Bucks plays because I just could not figure out what was happening on some of them.
55:15Please don't hesitate to send them. I would love to laugh at those.
55:20They're too talented to be as bad as they were last week.
55:24But I'm going Minnesota here. Flores. Yeah. And I agree.
55:27I'm going Minnesota, too. But I made the case in the offseason that I like the Vikings in their division because I
55:35think the ceiling is really high for them. And, like, I assume their defense will be good.
55:41At least good. Their defense looks to be great.
55:44And if Kyler Murray gets them to, like, okay, mediocre at offense, like, this, to me, is the best team in their division.
55:52But anyway, that is to be seen. I'm excited to watch Kyler this week because, you know, obviously last week was cut short so quickly.
56:00Okay. We have not diverged yet. That's concerning. I think that speaks to the nature of the game.
56:06These last few, there's a few more close ones.
56:09So hopefully. Including the one that we're going to talk about both sides of the ball.
56:15Raiders Saints. I promised this earlier. I said Raiders fans, Saints fans, we're going to acknowledge that your teams are fun and feisty early on.
56:24I'm going to discuss this game. I gave you the Raiders offense.
56:28I have the Saints offense. I'm going to go first here.
56:31Mike, he's a pretty simple one. Can we get second half Tyler Shuck all game?
56:37Please. Yes. First half, thus far, it's just two weeks.
56:40Shuck has had a QBR of 15 and negative 0.1 CF and EPA per dropback and a 33% success rate.
56:47That's 29th, 27th, and 28th. In the second half, he has had an 81 QBR, which is fifth league wide.
56:54And he's been 13th and 12th in EPA per dropback and success rate.
56:58So I went back and looked at some of the things going on to try to figure out if there's any differences.
57:06And I think it's worth noting, it's not like they were playing from significantly behind to where defense is set.
57:13Because I think sometimes when you hear a quarterback's in better in the second half, you think, has it been situational?
57:20But I don't really think that's been it. And even when you dig into a lot of the underlying, like, area yards
57:27per target, all that, it's honestly pretty similar. Same level of being inside the pocket, same level of five-man route concepts.
57:35One thing that has been notably different between the first and the second halves of these games is he has been significantly better when he's kept clean.
57:44In fact, in the second half, he's been awesome when he's kept clean.
57:48And he gets the ball out much faster. In the second half of these games, he's at a 2.55 time to throw, which is second fastest in football.
57:58So there's something going on where in the second halves of these games, whether it's him or Kellen Moore collecting information in
58:05the first halves or whatever, he has been a better, faster quarterback in the second halves.
58:11And if they can do that more consistently, then you really can start believing in this Saints offense.
58:17And it also could be, and it's not based on watching, but it also could be, like, you have to let loose in those situations.
58:26They were trailing in both of those games, and they were both kind of comebacks.
58:31But I didn't get that sense watching the Ravens game.
58:34Like, definitely in the first game, I got the sense that he was a better quarterback in the second half.
58:41But in the Ravens game, I know it to be true, but as I'm watching the game, I was like, this Saints offense is moving the ball.
58:50They look good. They, like, would peter out and kick field goals or make mistakes.
58:55But it just didn't feel like there was a different version of quarterback.
59:00It was just like, oh, the Ravens better pull away or they're going to get walked down.
59:06And they did. Yeah, I mean, they, in the Ravens game, too, I won't say some fluky stuff happened, but, like, Juwan
59:13Jackson broke, like, five tackles on a third and long.
59:17Chris Olave is just really freaking good. I mean, like, Chris Olave, he's definitely a top 10 receiver.
59:23I feel confident saying that. But he's been healthy, man.
59:26And he's been freaking awesome. And they've been doing this without their first round draft pick, Jordan Tyson.
59:32So they also have a really good, you can tell Shuck has complete faith in him.
59:38And I do think it's impressive that they've done all this, despite the fact that they can't run the football for crap.
59:45So, but I'm just saying, if they can stop punting on the first halves of these games, then I already feel pretty good about my Saints division pick.
59:55I would feel a lot better. What you got on the other side of the ball?
60:01Yeah, I was disappointed, honestly, in the Raiders' offenses.
60:04Like, we have been talking about how the Raiders are playing much better and they don't have to rush Mendoza out there.
60:11And it seems like the defense is the reason why they don't have to rush Mendoza out there.
60:17It feels like Kubiak is showing his worth. Like, they don't have a, well, not completely.
60:23That's not fair. There are designed explosives that are beautiful, that he designs week to week and Kirk Cousins has been hitting
60:30those, or at least in the Chargers game, hit those.
60:34They just don't seem, like, consistent offensively. Like, that's the part to me.
60:38I expected them to be, yeah. I guess I expected Kirk Cousins' improvement on the offensive line.
60:44Ashton Gentry. Like, I expected this offense, and I know Bowers, he should be back this week, right?
60:50That's what they're saying, I think. That probably will help the offense.
60:54But honestly, I was a little disappointed in how, like, inconsistent that offense was.
60:59But maybe they'll grow into it. Because I guess I assumed Kirk Cousins would.
61:04That's the reason why we're not rushing Mendoza is because Cousins is operating his offense.
61:09But it's really not. Yeah, he had on a couple of big plays to Trey Tucker that were the difference.
61:16There was a busted coverage. Yeah. I hear you.
61:19Yes. I do. I'm looking at some of the numbers.
61:23I do want to nod to the Raiders' defense, because I should have mentioned them when I was talking about the Saints office.
61:30Because they have been, I think, pretty impressive. Max Crosby looks great.
61:35Hezekiah Masses taking away the football. I think some of the young players have really.
61:40Kobe Dean also was really good in that game, I thought.
61:43So, obviously, that was their big priority, was stabilizing the linebacker group.
61:48Offensively, yeah. It's been okay. It's been inconsistent. I do think, I mentioned this, Kubiak.
61:53Some of the plays, when you watch, they're, you know, he, I feel like, has a really great feel for how to attack defenses.
62:01That sounds cliche. But it's just palpable. No, I mean, I think that the design explosives is where I see what you're talking about.
62:09Where it's like, you can see the concept. Not every, like, yeah.
62:13And you can see that it's bespoke, I think, is what you're talking about.
62:18Where it's like, oh, he saw that we could do this against this team at this time.
62:24It's different than, yeah. Yes, he had a beat on the Chargers.
62:28The Saints defense, though, I posted this about the Ravens.
62:31I don't know if you saw that, because everybody was like, oh, Ravens, why didn't they run the football in the second half?
62:39They're really, people always do this. And then when you go back and watch, you're like, okay, run stuff, offensive holding.
62:47Yeah, I did it. I ran it down on Get Up the next day, where I was like, I get what you're saying, guys.
62:55Yeah, like watch the drives. Let's look. They got four drives in the second half.
63:00Let's talk about when they were supposed to run the ball.
63:04One was a two-minute drill. I also, though, okay, like I want to take a minute to talk about this.
63:11The Saints defense is playing really good football. And I mean, you know, the first half, Lamar was carving them up.
63:18But in that second half, I just think on so many of those Ravens drives, you saw individual players making just impressive plays.
63:26DBs making plays on the football. Quincy Riley, Kulia McInstrie, run defense.
63:30Some of the things they did to Baltimore with their linebackers, which I'm going to get to when we talk about the Ravens.
63:38And then Chase Young and Carl Granderson are just good.
63:41Like, this is good. And I remember in the second half of last year, Dominique, the Saints defense, like when you went
63:49back and you looked, you're like, wait a second.
63:52This was a top 10 unit? And then you wondered maybe if it was competition.
63:57They're playing the NFC South or whatever. But I feel like we've seen now through the first two weeks that this is a legit group.
64:05They're well coached. They have good game plans. I thought some of the stuff they did against the Ravens were really clever.
64:13Brandon Staley back, maybe. Well, the Chargers, you know.
64:16Not everybody's supposed to be a head coach, I guess.
64:19Some people are coordinators. Yeah. I don't know. I'm going Saints here.
64:24Yeah. But this could go either way. What is the line?
64:27Now I'm wondering. This is a tough one. Saints by three at home.
64:32So it's a pick him. You're Saints. You're going to go Saints too?
64:36Yeah, I'm going Saints. I think if it was in the Raiders, I guess I might go Raiders.
64:42But all right. Let's do Ravens Cowboys next. We only have three more games to one is the Case Keenum.
64:49Okay. Ravens Cowboys. Of note, I got an email from Gabriel Martin, who has a podcast in Brazil about the NFL.
64:56I think it's called Cara Dos Sports to alert me to the fact that the field condition at their stadium is a problem.
65:04Yeah. He says this is on the ground reporting for the meeting.
65:08I'm showing Lenny. He says the stadium is owned by the state of Rio de Janeiro.
65:14Having two teams play 40 games each there over the year makes it hard to keep it in good condition.
65:21One of their players has been complaining over the last few weeks.
65:25Also, it has rained 10 times more than expected this September.
65:29So my key is just please nobody get hurt.
65:32I should have started by saying this game is in Brazil.
65:36If that's not obvious. You have the Cowboys offense against the Ravens defense.
65:40Why don't you go first here? Yeah. I mean, the Ravens defense was it's hard to know what to think about them
65:48because I was really impressed with what they did in week one.
65:52And I was made to appreciate it more when I saw what the Colts did offensively against the Chiefs.
65:58It wasn't just that the Colts are terrible. And I was really impressed with the way that they protected their corners and by using disguise.
66:07Anyway, I don't need to get into specifics. But this week they just felt toothless and it didn't against the Saints.
66:14It was very uninspired. And the pass rush that I expected to be there was not.
66:19And that is that was the thing that killed them last year.
66:24And that's why they were making moves to address it this year.
66:28And they haven't fixed it just yet. It doesn't seem so.
66:31I'll tell you that. Matabuike, it sounds like he might actually be back this week.
66:37So, yeah. But I mean, right. I don't want to put too much stock into it.
66:42But it is. I well, I did feel watching them that they really needed more juice on the inside.
66:49So he could be hopefully helpful there. Were you impressed by Cowboys offense?
66:53I mean, yeah, the Cowboys offense is awesome. And it was against the commanders defense that is not awesome.
67:00So, like, I, yeah, I was impressed by them.
67:03I actually, it's, they have to do a lot less to impress me because I already have high expectations of them.
67:10So, yeah, they did what they were supposed to do against the commanders.
67:14Cowboys receivers against the Ravens corners. Kind of what I would look at in that side of the ball.
67:21Because I think Ravens can stop them on the ground.
67:24But, ooh, CeeDee Lamb this last week. It's tough.
67:27Yes. Ravens safeties, not Campbell Hamilton. The other ones.
67:30Yeah. My boy Innocent. Made some. They blitzed Kyle so much now.
67:35He does that. Made some pretty bad tackling mistakes, too, in this game.
67:39Like I said, a lot of it is awesome also.
67:42But so are CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Other side of the ball.
67:47This one's impossible to pick, though. Yeah. Well, okay.
67:50Hopefully we'll be on both sides. Other side of the ball.
67:54So we've got the Ravens offense against the Cowboys defense.
67:57I would feel better about this in normal conditions.
68:00Because I wrote down, like, Lamar, scramble. Jaden Daniels was, like, just killing them on the ground.
68:06But I'm a little nervous about it. One thing I wrote for Dallas is, can they create a gap pressure?
68:13Because that was one thing that Brandon Staley and the Saints defense did very good in the second half against the Ravens,
68:20sending their linebackers, Caden Ellis and Pete Werner, both against the run.
68:25Some of those run stuff we talked about. But also there was a play where Lamar Jackson, like, turned his back.
68:32They were running play action and was immediately met by a blitzer.
68:36The Ravens have a rookie center who has been okay running the football, but has struggled to pass protect.
68:42Dallas, meanwhile, is 29th in pass rush win rate.
68:46But Quinton Williams in this game only had one pressure.
68:49He's been pretty underwhelming early on. So interior pressure, whether manufactured or from the defensive tackles, is something I have my eye on in this game.
68:58Yeah. I think I would still go with the Ravens in this game.
69:02Who knows? We disagree? No! I was hoping the Cowboys, the commenters, are going to be so angry if we all pick the same.
69:11I'm very mad at the Cowboys. I can't pick them.
69:14They convinced me that their defense was going to be better, and they're not.
69:19I need to make a trend. You need three.
69:22Christian Parker and Michael McDaniel. I need one more coach with glasses to make a trend that glasses guys are catfishing us right now.
69:30Because every time they show Christian Parker this summer, I'm like, ooh, he looks smart.
69:35And then they give up five yards of rush.
69:38You know who doesn't wear glasses? Brian Flores doesn't wear glasses.
69:42Vic Fangio doesn't wear glasses. No, never. Mike McDonald does a very good glasses.
69:47What if Christian Parker comes out this week in contact?
69:50I might have to change. Oh, switch my pick.
69:53Okay. I'm going Ravens here, too, because the first half of Ravens offense did look awesome.
69:59And Lamar has been so accurate until that last throw.
70:02I mean, he's been extremely good through the first two weeks of the season.
70:07As you know, managing maintenance, repair, and operations is never easy.

71:29And talk to your doctor about Vivgard Hytrulo. Brought to you by Argenics.
71:34Rams Broncos. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. I'm going to disagree with you on this one.
71:38It doesn't matter what you pick. I'm going the opposite one.
71:42No, no, no. We have to be authentic. I mean, honestly, I could convince myself that either team could win this.
71:49So, yes, we will be authentic. This is Sunday Night Football.
71:53Damn. I mean, the Broncos, I can go first so that I won't be cheated.
71:58Broncos offense we talked about earlier in this week against the Rams defense.
72:03Go. Yeah. I thought, looking back at Aaron Donald, he was really, like, really good.
72:08Better than I expected. Yeah. It's hard to get a good gauge for what the Rams defense is because, like, we had
72:15one week where we chalked it up to Australia and we had another week where they hurt Jackson Dark on the first drive.
72:23So, we saw a different version of it. But I thought they were really good against the run this week.
72:30And, of course, McDuffie got that interception, which was just a terrible throw.
72:35So, the Broncos, like, they – I think I made this point earlier when we were talking about the Jags.
72:41Like, the Broncos moved the ball. They didn't score until the end of the game.
72:47But they, like, moved the ball the entire game.
72:50So, I was impressed with that. Second week of Davis Webb, they got Waddle the ball.
72:55They got everyone the ball. It seemed like an effective offense.
72:59That offensive line I thought was dominant in that game.
73:02That matters to me in this particular matchup. I think I'm leaning – the problem is I thought – Can you wait until I do my part?
73:12No, you can't. I thought the Broncos' defense was all the way back because their pass rush was there and they were blitzing.
73:19I'll get to that side of the ball. Yeah.
73:23Yeah. All right. Sorry. Never mind. You can go to your side of the ball and then I'll make my pick.
73:30I want to know one thing here. In the Giants game, you know, it's hard to know what to take away from
73:37the Rams defense in that game to your side.
73:40But I did think – they had Trent McDuffie in the slot a bit in that game.
73:46He didn't play in the slot at all week one.
73:50This is a game where I would consider going to that pitch again with Jalen Waddle in the slot if the Rams
73:57– you know, there's going to be a little bit of a chess match between how the Rams deploy their corners.
74:04You know, they played a lot of man against Jameis.
74:08This is not the offense – the quarterback you play man against.
74:12It's not. So I don't think last week has like a ton of bearing on this one.
74:18And yeah, the pass rush. I am interested in whether – what we see from the second week of Aaron Donald.
74:25I talked about the Browns' offense at length earlier in the week.
74:29So you got Broncos fans. If you want to listen to me talk about Bowdoin X, you can check it out there.
74:37I wrote, yeah, for the – this is pretty simple.
74:40But for Denver, I mean, can you either pressure Stafford or if he throws the ball super quick, limit yards after the catch?
74:48You know, I think what we've seen from Matthew Stafford early in the season is what we saw from Matthew Stafford last
74:55year, which is if he's kept clean, it's night-night.
74:59But, you know, when he's pressured, he definitely is on the struggles.
75:03Again, you saw that. You saw that against San Francisco.
75:06I know that was weirdness in Australia or whatever, but the Giants didn't pressure him at all.
75:12And you saw what happened as a result. So now you got this Denver pass rush that I think, even without Jonathan Cooper, still looks good.
75:21Nick Benito still looks incredibly fast. I thought against the Jags, Zach Allen was like the best player.
75:27Like he was taking over drives. And, you know, the Rams' offensive line is very good for sure.
75:33But this Denver's defensive line is good too. Stafford, by the way, he's keeping under pressure so far this year.
75:40It's 2.9. So, yeah, 86 kept clean. So anyways, that's – like that's kind of – we don't know what the status is of Pukunikua.
75:49I guess I should add you also got to stop the Rams' early down run game.
75:54Yeah, that's what jumped out to me. Earn the right to pressure Matthew Stafford.
75:59I wouldn't be surprised if we see Kyron Williams slash Blake Corum get some targets, try to go after the Broncos linebackers.
76:06But Denver's front has to take over this game.
76:10Yeah. Yeah, the way that the Chiefs ran the ball on the Broncos gave me some pause given that the Rams are a very good running team.
76:19So that gives me a little concern is they may not get in those situations where they can threaten Matt Stafford with
76:26that pass rush and the tight man coverage and the blitz.
76:30And so that had me a little hesitant. So I think I'm – I wanted to lean Broncos.
76:36But I'm sticking Broncos. Let's go. All right. I'm Rams here.
76:40This was actually my preseason Super Bowl pick, by the way, Rams-Broncos, which I feel better about after week two than I did after week one.
76:49Yeah. For me, that's just – the Rams offense right now, I just feel like watching them do that to New York without Pukunikua is very scary.
76:58All right. Final game, Eagles-Bears, the Monday night game.
77:01Alas, no Caleb Williams, no Tyson Bajan. It's Case Keenum.
77:05Yeah. Should be noted, last time these teams played, last year, I had to pull up the stat line like twice because I didn't believe it.
77:14I remembered it, but I didn't believe it. Kyle Menungai ran for 130 yards.
77:18Yeah. And DeAndre Swift ran for 125, which seems impossible.
77:22The Eagles played a lot of light boxes in that matchup.
77:26Dominique, something tells me with Case Keenum, a quarterback, we are not going to see that many light boxes from Big Fangio's defense this week.
77:34Yeah. Yeah. I think this should be a relatively easy game for the Eagles, but I guess I thought the Titans would be the same way.
77:43But they struggled with that and pulled it out of the end.
77:47I mean, I think this is, to me, we've been in this ongoing cycle for many years since the 2,000-yard Saquon season
77:55where we've been waiting for the Eagles' offensive line to be dominant again.
77:59And it's not. And that offense is never going to look as good as it looked then until they start road grading
78:07people again, which, like, that was one of the best offensive lines in NFL history.
78:12Like, so we should stop thinking that and have different expectations of this offense.
78:17There were times when I thought Jalen looked more comfortable, but he still threw two picks, which sucked, and he was under pressure a lot, which also sucked.
78:26But he came through at the end. I think the defense isn't as good as I thought it was going to be.
78:34Like, the talent is still there, but they just aren't as good.
78:38It's a lot of confusing things. It's early in the season.
78:42We know that these teams will be different later.
78:45They managed to steal a win with the Titans.
78:48I think, obviously, this is another game that they should definitely win this one more easily.
78:53Through the early part of the season, I feel good about Jalen Hurts.
78:58I think the marriage with Sean Mannion is starting to click.
79:02You saw him throw a bit more of the middle of the field.
79:06Also, just like their passing attack just now looks coherent.
79:10Yeah. Right? Like, it's not the Rams or whatever, like in terms of some of the tendencies.
79:15But, like, the use of motion, the way he gets receivers open.
79:20Mm-hmm. And just, it doesn't feel like he's asking the receivers to just go win.
79:25Yeah. He also has, I think, shown a much greater proficiency for attacking zone coverage than predecessors.
79:30And Hurts seems to be buying in. Like, he looks fairly confident to me throwing into some of those zone voids.
79:38There's some anticipatory throws. And I think the receivers just look awesome.
79:42Great. Yeah. The Tavian Wicks. Yeah. Has been so good that no one's talking about the fact that Makai Lemon doesn't do anything.
79:50Like, I mean, you know, he'll be fine. But I just...
79:53Smith's been great, too. Jeez Louise, that drive. Yeah.
79:57Holy crap. Yeah. So they can't run the ball.
80:00Defensively, you're right. They've been okay, but not dominant.
80:03I think they don't have Jonathan Grenard. They'll be better.
80:06Cooper Jean had a rough start. He was fine last week.
80:10So, you know, I think the Eagles are trending in the right direction.
80:14Obviously, the opponent this week, given the quarterback situation.
80:17You know, we're both going Philadelphia here. But let me ask you this.
80:22If Caleb had started, would you have taken Chicago or Philadelphia?
80:26I think I still would have gone Philadelphia. Yeah.
80:29Yeah, the Bears defense, I think. Philadelphia won't be able to move the ball in the air.
80:35Through the air. All right. That's it for this week.
80:38Dominique, thank you as always for joining. Check out the Dominique Foxworth show wherever you get your pods.
