0:33Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that?
0:38No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with power boost ingredients inside?
0:43No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different and Messi only trusts Duracell.
0:49Hello and welcome to the deep end. I'm your host, Johnny Tuma.
0:53You know, I am joined by a guy who's caught a lot of fire over the past couple of weeks with some
1:00really needed advice around injuries in the NFL. There's a lot of information out there.
1:05It's not all good. I was talking to our CEO, Matt Kelly, the other day.
1:10I was saying this guy, Brandon, man, he is putting out some really good work, some really informative stuff on X.
1:17And I had to get him on our show.
1:20So the deep end, you know, I've had I had an NFL player on here.
1:25We want to get some more agents. And now we've got a PT, right?
1:30So this the point of this show is to bring real experts in their space, kind of talk through what they're seeing.
1:37So Brandon, you are the injury expert. Is your thank you for joining the show.
1:42Appreciate you for having me. Of course, man. And let's get straight into it.
1:47So you've been, like I said, covering a lot of really good news this offseason.
1:52I'm going to pull up the screen real quick just to show your ex some love.
1:57I'm starting with I think the one that caught you fire was this Malik Nabors knee cleanup surgery and really in depth
2:04would encourage the people to go check it out on their own time.
2:08But I think, you know, you just you broke it down pretty simply.
2:13This was not a, you know, simple ACL repair.
2:16There's some other factors to weigh in that is going to make this a longer recovery timeline.
2:21And I think a lot of people are just they're just too ignorant to even want to take in all that information.
2:29But you really served it up for him really well with this one.
2:33Had some great coverage on Jonathan Brooks, Alec Pierce.
2:36So strongly encourage you guys to check out Brandon at fantasy footie PT.
2:40But what you can touch on any of those guys I just mentioned, but I'll start it off.
2:46Like, what's the biggest injury news this offseason? You think fantasy managers are misreading?
2:51Honestly, I think it is Malik neighbors. And I think that's probably why that that thread popped off so much, because people
2:58are not aware really of what this cleanup surgery was.
3:01First of all, he had not just a simple ACL reconstruction.
3:05He also had his lateral meniscus repaired, too, which kind of delays things in the first place anyways.
3:11And then, you know, you have to do a little bit of digging, too, as a, you know, injury analyst in this space.
3:19And they say this cleanup procedure. So I was like, well, what is that?
3:23And I think Pat McAfee actually talked about how he heard it was a cyclops lesion.
3:29And so basically what that is, it's just a massive tissue that can prevent the knee from fully straightening.
3:35So that could have been bottlenecking some of his his rehab goals and his his his return to sport.
3:41So that's probably why they needed to go through that pretty quickly.
3:45But that's not you know, people say that's simple.
3:48But in my opinion, that's going to add on at least a couple of weeks.
3:53And that's kind of what the research says, too.
3:56Looking at that thread and the research I did adds about one to two weeks to get to some of the range of motion goals back.
4:05So you can clear that that that that tissue in there.
4:08But and it can be straight intraoperatively in the operating room, but you still have to go through the rehab process a
4:16little bit to to get that full range of motion back there, too.
4:20And then you can't just, you know, jump right back into what you're doing before.
4:25So it's going to take another one to two weeks.
4:28I think I said a thread about two to four weeks to get back in total.
4:34So it's not as simple. I don't think as people are putting it out to be in as as the Giants maybe are suggesting it is as well.
4:43So I think a lot of things have to go right for him.
4:47And it's not just a seamless, seamless recovery there.
4:50Well, and it sounded like from what I read from your thread, it's also, you know, like guarantee.
4:56It's almost actually guaranteed that he's not going to be 100 percent in his first year back.
5:02Right. If it was a simple ACL tear, it may be a little more straightforward.
5:07But I think some of the research you saw was that a majority of athletes who go through similar procedures really there.
5:14We shouldn't have the expectations that we have that this guy is going to be a first round pick type of talent in 2026.
5:22Is that correct? I'd say that that is and that's what the historical research says.
5:27Typically, after in general, after really any ACL reconstruction, the research is pretty consistent in the fact that there is normally at
5:34least the first year following a production dip. Now, there's obviously exceptions to that.
5:39And Malik Nabors is such an elite player that he may be an exception to that as well.
5:45But in general, going through all the research, it does seem that there's going to be a production dip for at least the first year.
5:53And he's probably going to need to be ramped up to throughout the season, even if he does return early, like week
6:00one to four, I think is probably week one.
6:03I think is optimistic, but it's possible. But he'll still need to be ramped up throughout the season as well.
6:10So I think he can do it because he's such an elite player, but you also have to be cautious with these types of injuries.
6:18Yeah, I think I think people got to pump the brakes on him a bit.
6:23I think he's probably around or too too high in redraft that, you know, I typically I have a dynasty show on player profile or as well.
6:32I look I love looking at through things through a dynasty lens.
6:36I think, you know, you've kind of said, hey, long term, this isn't a huge concern.
6:41Like he'll shake this off after a couple of years.
6:45Right. So if people are spooked, maybe it's a buying window and dynasty.
6:49But in redraft, I think we got to pump the brakes a bit.
6:53This is a guy who could miss a couple of the weeks to start the season and then not be 100 percent in 2026.
7:01So really good analysis on him. I again, I encourage you guys to go check out the full thread.
7:08Brandon, another thing you do that I like is you link all the research that you've done.
7:13And like so it's like, what are you what are you going to say to me now?
7:19You know, so I love it. No, it could.
7:22The first I think thread. I don't know if I linked it for neighbors, but the first thread because, you know, in
7:29school and PT school, obviously not citing your sources is like the worst thing possible.
7:34So it felt really weird to not do that.
7:37I think I made I made a YouTube video and I think that's where I posted the links.
7:43But it still felt really weird. So I made it, I think, a tweet a couple of days there is like, would
7:50you guys want to see the links? And I was like, you know, why not just it won't be that hard to
7:58I don't want to cite them, you know, formally.
8:01I can just throw the links in. So, yeah, it's not like people are going to be digging into a reading every word of them.
8:09Right. Yeah. We're fantasy football fans. We're not physical therapists.
8:12Right. At the end of the day. But that's what you're here for.
8:16So now we're going to get into like this is what I'm most excited about is some of the guys that like
8:24there is not a lot of good answers on.
8:27So I'm going to put you to the test, man, because I like it really good.
8:32Sam Laporta. I mean, I could just like stop there.
8:35And I think we could just like let that breathe for a minute.
8:40Like Sam Laporta. What are we doing with this guy?
8:43A back surgery. I was telling you before the show, I just did a trade in a 10 team dynasty league where
8:50I traded away Sam Laporta and Garrett Wilson to get Trey McBride.
8:54Um, I, I think that the concerns about Trey McBride, like falling off a cliff is overblown.
9:00I think he's going to be in a thousand yard tight end and that's a difference maker in the 10 team dynasty league.
9:07But what also scared me away and wanted me to make the trade is I just don't have a lot of data or evidence on back surgeries.
9:16This scares the hell out of me. Laporta is like a guy.
9:20I love player tough as nails. Um, you know, he's, he's battled through some stuff in his first few years.
9:27So when they put them on IR immediately after this injury and his season was over, it just, it, it's been weird.
9:34And now he's walking around at walkthroughs, right? Like we're hearing he's participating, but I'm not hearing, Oh, he's running out there a hundred percent fully ready.
9:43It sounds like he's, it's very light work he's doing.
9:46So can you tell me what type of research you've done on this sort of industry or injury and like what level
9:54of confidence you have that he returns to a hundred percent and when that would be?
9:59Yeah. So doing some digging, it sounds like he had a herniated disc in his lumbar spine.
10:05And it's kind of funny cause I'm a, I'm an outpatient physical therapist.
10:09I deal with a lot of, um, you know, a lot of different things, but I'd say this is probably one of
10:16the things that I see the most in my clinic.
10:20Um, it sounds like he was having some pain and inner numbness tingling that was going on his leg.
10:26Um, that started after some hits he was taking against the commanders in week 10.
10:31Um, some, I think it was Dan, I don't know someone, Dan Campbell, someone was saying he was looking like he was
10:38walking like an 80 year old man. So obviously that's, that's the concern there right away.
10:43But, um, it looks like the surgery he underwent was, uh, a lumber lumbar micro disectomy.
10:49So, um, just to break it down a little bit in the, uh, in the, in the spine, you have your vertebrae
10:56and then in between you have your discs. Um, there's a hard, the disc has a hard outer shell and a kind of soft gel like inner shell.
11:05And what can happen with a disc herniation is the soft inner gel will kind of like break the hard shell.
11:12And that soft gel like substance puts a little pressure on one of the nerves that's nearby the, the, the lumbar spine there.
11:20So what the surgery basically does is it, um, it goes in there and it, it takes the stress off of the
11:27nerve root and takes the gel off of that nerve root.
11:31It doesn't necessarily, you know, repair the, the, uh, the tear itself, but it can clean up some of that area that's
11:38compressing on that nerve, which can lead to weakness going down the leg.
11:42Uh, the numbness and tingling and the pain going down the leg because the, the nerve that nerves that come out of
11:50the lumbar spine, they impact going down the leg.
11:53So taking stress off that is just kind of the first step.
11:57You also have to one build up the area around.
12:00So a lot of things that I'll work on with my patients, um, working on your deep core strength, your obliques, your
12:07hip mobility, your thoracic, your upper spine, your mid spine mobility.
12:11Um, and of course he has to now get to the point where he's ready to take NFL contact, which I obviously
12:18don't do that with a lot of my, well, any of my patients.
12:22So looking at the research, um, one, I looked at a historical comp.
12:27I think one favorable comp is Rob Gronkowski. He actually had a micro disectomy in 2016.
12:32So he was 27 at the time and Laporta is 25 right now, I believe.
12:37So, and the next year he went on to, you know, be first team all pro, uh, 1084 yards, eight touchdowns.
12:44So, so that's a, that's a favorable comp for him looking at the research specifically following a micro disectomy surgery.
12:51Um, statistically, it actually, most of the time, there's no significant decline in pre performance levels versus post performance levels or career longevity.
12:58There is around an eight to 14% re herniation risk or a reoperation risk.
13:03So that's one thing you may be concerned about, but week one is going to be around nine and a half months post-op for him.
13:11Um, and it looks like Campbell said he's pretty confident for week one.
13:15Um, I'd say, and looking at the research too, it looks like around three and a half to six months.
13:22Minimum is when, when NFL athletes are expected to return from something like this.
13:27So he'll have around a 10 full months. So I think that's a massive advantage for him to be eased back into that contact.
13:35Um, like I said before, you know, NFL context, obviously a lot different and to be able to, to gradually build yourself
13:42up to that, I think it's going to be important for him.
13:46So I'm, I think Laporta will, will reach his pre performance levels.
13:50Um, in my opinion, it's just about being a little bit careful as, as his rehab progresses.
13:56Yeah, man, dude, super, super insightful. Really, really well done there.
13:59Um, just to recap, you talked about, he has much longer recovery period than the typical recovery period is kind of what I heard from you there.
14:08There's a small re-injury risk, but it sounds like in 2026, we can expect the type of production we've been seeing from
14:15him the first few years of his career. Uh, awesome home run answer, man.
14:20Again, probably wish I would have asked you and gotten on with you before I did that trade.
14:26Maybe try to squeeze a little more out of that guy.
14:30Um, but I'm still sleeping at night. Okay. Uh, you know, they're okay.
14:34Totally off the cuff question here, right? Trey McBride and I traded Garrett Wilson and Laporta.
14:39Mm-hmm. Laporta had an injury concern. Part of me also was like, man, is this guy Garrett Wilson a little bit injury prone?
14:47Uh, you don't have to answer yes to Garrett Wilson if you don't like know off the top of your head.
14:54But like, is there anything there that just got feeling you're like, hey, yeah, some players are more injury prone than others?
15:01You know, that's actually something just in general. Someone I did.
15:05My first thread was of Jordan Tyson. And someone asked me, well, is, is, is injury prone actually a thing?
15:11Or is it more so like one injury predisposes you for a risk for that same injury or a compensation injury?
15:18So that's a really interesting question. I was thinking about making maybe like a, just a deep dive on is injury proneness in itself a thing?
15:27Honestly, it's, it's hard to say for Garrett Wilson.
15:30He might just have been shut down just because the Jets, you know, wanted to tank a little bit.
15:36That's my first gut reaction. Yeah. Yeah. Honestly, I didn't, I didn't really look into that.
15:42So yeah, no, I didn't put that on the sheet.
15:45So I'm throwing you off. Uh, I thought about adding it late at night.
15:49Cause it was something I was thinking about. I'm like, Hmm, scary.
15:53Wilson injury prone, but you know, transitioning a little bit.
15:57Cause you, you said something there about, Hey, like compensation.
16:00And I wanted to talk about RJ Harvey next, but you also did a really good thread on JK Dobbins.
16:07And I think that is a guy you would say, and I would look you in the face based on what you put the thread together.
16:15That is the definition of injury prone, right? Where you've had an Achilles tear, you've had a knee injury, and now you
16:23are more prone to compensate and therefore re aggravate a new area, re aggravate some of those old injuries.
16:29Would you label JK Dobbins? I mean, like this is, this is an, this is a layup, right?
16:35But I mean, can you stand a little bit more as like, it's not just, I mean, it kind of is because of the previous injuries.
16:43We, we have a hunch that again, it's not just, Oh, this guy gets dinged up all the time.
16:50He gets it, but it's because he's been dinged up so much in the past that now he is inevitably at a higher risk of injury.
16:58I think some of, some of it is, is injury proneness.
17:02Some of it is unlucky too, because I mean, um, I can't remember, uh, how exactly Dobbins injured for his ACL at the first place.
17:10But a lot of these things are like contact injuries where, you know, that is unlucky.
17:16Um, but some of the things, you know, like the non-contact or the Achilles, um, that to me indicates a little bit
17:23more injury proneness rather than if he were to, you know, get hit in the knee and, and just haven't, you know,
17:30his, his, uh, ACL injured that way. So, yeah, I think, I think he is a little injury prone just because of
17:37how many injuries he has had at this stage.
17:40But again, I think that's something I want to dive into that, that title of injury proneness and how actually true that
17:48that is, or is it more so the injuries before that predisposed them to future?
17:53So, right. Right. Well, very interesting. And again, I mentioned kind of the other, both the Broncos main starters kind of dealing with things, right?
18:01RJ Harvey had some sort of shoulder injury, uh, during the AFC conference championship game that he had operated on.
18:08Can you just walk us through the injury timeline recovery and any impact it has on his redraft or dynasty value?
18:15And I know you put a thread together on this, so you don't have to, you can't just summarize it.
18:21Yeah. So, uh, he had a labral injury, um, that required surgery.
18:25So not really sure if it was a labor repair or just like a debridement type of thing, but labor repair would
18:32typically be a timeline of like a four to six month type of thing.
18:37Um, so that's looking around like the mated July range, um, for Harvey.
18:41Um, just one of the research articles I looked at showed that, um, NFL and NCAA NCAA players showed that 94% were
18:49able to return to their prior level after labor surgeries.
18:52So honestly, I don't think I'm just going off of that.
18:56Not super concerned about this for Harvey. So if you liked him before the injury, I think I would, I'd buy him for the dip from this case.
19:05So, yeah, yeah, no, and that's, that's really good stuff from you again.
19:09I think the other, uh, but maybe poke on this a little bit.
19:13Didn't Xavier worthy go through something similar? I'm honestly, I can't remember about Xavier worthy.
19:18Did he have a shoulder thing too? Yeah. He like when, um, Kelsey hit him in week one and like separated his
19:26shoulder, I guess I just heard some fantasy analysts out there saying like, oh, it's the same injury that he had and it ruined his whole year.
19:35And they're still easing him back and stuff like that.
19:38And it's like, uh, Hey, I don't know the extent of how true that is.
19:43And be like, they're, they're different body types. You know, I don't know.
19:47Also, I talk about this with, with my patients all the time to, uh, uh, a labral shoulder injury is kind of common.
19:55Like they've, they've done studies before where asymptomatic individuals in there, you know, even in their twenties and thirties, they have labral
20:02shoulder injuries or shoulder tears that you just don't necessarily feel.
20:06Um, and they don't always have to be symptomatic, but it could have just been, I'm not sure in that and Xavier
20:13worthy's case, but it could have just been a side, um, um, thing that, you know, but this other injury too.
20:20So. Okay. Um, we'll do one more running back here.
20:23Zach Charbonnet. Again, we're starting to see some reports from Mike McDonald, anything's possible.
20:28He could be back week one that feels aggressive.
20:31Um, can you just expand a little bit like realistic timeline for him to return and how are you approaching that backfield as a result?
20:39Yeah. So yeah, I think week one's very aggressive for, for Zach Charbonnet.
20:44Um, just going off of research, uh, I would say around nine months at least is what I would like to see.
20:51Research shows that before then, if athletes return, there's a, up to a seven fold increased rate of re-injury.
20:57Um, and I know this has happened before in the NFL and some, some have, you know, you know, done well before nine months.
21:05But to me, that's just too much of a risk going off of what the research says.
21:11Um, so again, week one, he'd be six and a half months post-op.
21:15So that's, that's very, very early. Wow. Nine months for him would be week 11.
21:20So if he does return week one, I would say there's a pretty high chance that he has a re-injury to whether
21:27it be the ACL, maybe it is a compensation type of injury.
21:31So, and not only that I mentioned before, there's typically a historical dip, um, following an ACL reconstruction, uh, the first year back at least.
21:40So yeah, I'm not, I'm not super high on Zach Charbonnet for that reason.
21:44And that's why I, I kind of liked Jerry and price at least for this year.
21:49Yeah, dude. It sounds like he's gotta be a full fade.
21:53You know what I mean? Like it just sounds like taking him in any sort of redraft is just a fool's game.
22:00Um, and you sometimes, this is why I wanted to get you on, man.
22:05We have to break through the coach speak and bring some common sense into the equation.
22:10Right. And, um, yeah, I don't love Jadarian price either, but I think he is going to walk into a big opportunity.
22:18Um, but Hey man, there's other backs in that backfield.
22:21Right. So I think it's, it's, it's an interesting backfield.
22:24Right. Um, but I'm staying away from Zach Charbonnet for sure.
22:28So, uh, well, really good first half men guys do not go anywhere because we are just getting started with this stuff.
22:35We've got some really good, we got, we're going to talk, talk her craft.

25:29So let's get back into it, man. Some big names we still got to run through.
25:35Let's go with the rookie of the year, Tetaroa McMillan.
25:38We're hearing some reports nagging foot injury. I think he was dealing with a foot injury at the end of last year.
25:45Man, this is exactly why I've got you on the show today.
25:49I don't have time to dig into all this crap.
25:53What's going on? Is there cause for serious concern with Tetaroa McMillan?
25:56I honestly feel like I'm going to let you down a little bit this one because there's this type of procedure it was, what had been causing this.
26:06So unfortunately for Tet, I want to just kind of guess in this case or speculate.
26:11Yeah. And some of the clips, just looking at it, it looked like he was moving pretty well on some of the individual drills.
26:19So that's a positive. So yeah, just not, not a ton of, I could find for Tet McMillan.
26:25But he looked like I said, it looked like he was moving well.
26:29Like, cause that kind of concerns me when you don't have a lot of clarity.
26:34They're not outward about what's going on. Like, do we have any things you can think back of players that have been through?
26:42Like, I hate to be like this, but I got Joe Mixon on the show sheet for a foot injury.
26:48Right. He didn't hear much about that. It wasn't a big deal.
26:52And then now his career is over. Now that was a totally different story.
26:57He did something. There was some freak accident where you and I are going to take our guesses later on the show on what that freak accident was.
27:06But you get what I'm saying. There's just, does that cause any concern or he's just like, oh, that's pretty typical.
27:13There's a lot of these injuries where we don't have all the information and we sort of just have to assume the best.
27:21Well, if it is the same foot and I actually, I saw a tweet from, from Jeff Mueller shout out him, but
27:28he was saying part of it could be that maybe some hardware irritation.
27:33If it is the same foot, you know, from the surgery.
27:36So that could be a thing. I wouldn't think that would be too much of a concern, especially if he's moving pretty well.
27:44And some of the clips, like I saw, he was doing like ladder drills and he was moving pretty well in the
27:51individual team or in the individual team in individual drills.
27:54So. Yeah, I, it's, it's so hard to speculate.
27:57It could be the opposite foot. It could just be like a plantar fasciitis.
28:02It could be who knows, like a turf toe.
28:05So, so it's, it's so hard to, to look at Tett McMillan and give you, give you a finalized or a concrete answer.
28:13But you're not scared away then? Like if he's on the board at value.
28:17Going off of the clips, I think, I think it's a wait and see, but going off of the clip that I
28:25saw, he, he was moving pretty well. Okay. So no major concern for you there, but something to certainly monitor, see if we can get more information on.
28:34Okay. Let's talk tight ends, man. George Kittle and Tucker Kraft, right?
28:38Both solid, solid top of the heap tight ends.
28:41George Kittle tears his Achilles last year. Tucker Kraft tears his ACL.
28:45Which one are you more confident in looking like themselves in 2026 and like at value at cost, you know, Kraft's a little bit more expensive, right?
28:54Obviously in dynasty is much younger, but even in redraft, he's going in like pick 75 range where Kittle's going like pick
29:01105 to all the way to 120 range. Which one are you more confident in returning to form in 2026 and which
29:08one would you like part two of that question is which one do you think is the better value?
29:15Yeah. I honestly, I kind of like both of them.
29:18I know I mentioned, let's start with Kraft. So the ACL reconstruction, just meniscus debridement.
29:23So that's a lot different than a meniscus repair where it's kind of delaying some of that healing.
29:29Um, so I, I did mention before nine months, want to see at least nine months before they return to just make
29:36sure there's not that increased injury risk. Um, and a lot of this return, I didn't mention this before, but comes down
29:43to how well that's that single leg, that single leg is able to perform jumping stability.
29:49Um, the strength of that leg compared to the other leg, um, a lot of times in the clinic I'll test, um,
29:56like single leg, how high can they jump on the single leg compared to the uninjured leg or how far can they jump or a triple hop.
30:05So those are things that I'd be looking for with Kraft if I was there.
30:10Um, in addition to the nine months. Um, and like I mentioned, there is a historical dip a year after ACL injuries,
30:17but there are cases where this isn't, isn't true.
30:20Um, and I think for elite players, they're probably more likely to not have this sort of dip in the first year.
30:27And I use this comp earlier, uh, Gronkowski had ACL and MCL, uh, surgery.
30:32He returned after only eight months, which is actually before the nine month timeline.
30:37Um, and he had again, a great year after his first year back.
30:41So that's, I think Kraft is the type of elite player that I think can have this type of similar thing.
30:48But again, the, the, the historical research does show there's a, there's a dip year one, sometimes even going into year two.
30:55So that's something I'd be concerned about. Kittle, um, you know, with Achilles repairs, there's so much that is being advanced in the rehab for it.
31:04Um, he had now just going back into the research, it actually says 11 months for Achilles repair, but he didn't have the typical repair.
31:12He had what's called a speed bridge approach with, um, an elite NFL surgeon.
31:17Uh, and so he says he's on track for week one, just going off some of his quotes, he was doing single
31:24leg box jumps, um, cutting drills, running drills. That was about five months post-stop.
31:29Um, so he still has some months to progress to that NFL contact research.
31:33I actually does show decreased performance year one after Achilles repair too.
31:37So both research for both cases shows that there's typically a decline.
31:41I think just because they're both, you know, elite players in their position, I think they can both get back to that performance.
31:49I'm going to go with Kittle here just because I think one, he has a little bit more experience.
31:55So he can maybe use that a little bit in his, in his game compared to craft who maybe relies a little bit more on his traits.
32:04Yeah. Um, so I do like both of them, but just for that reason, I'm going to go with Kittle.
32:11Plus I actually tore my Achilles while I was in PT school.
32:15So I always liked to bet on the Achilles guys.
32:18That's why I'm George Kittle. Are you walking around with a limp or how are you doing?
32:24Oh, I'm perfect. Perfect. I still play, you know, I'm, I'm a soccer player.
32:28I play, play the soccer, the men's league, uh, volleyball real into that.
32:33So I, Hey, I feel like I met my prior performance.
32:36So. Oh, okay. That's, that's great to hear, man.
32:39You, uh, okay. So let's talk Tori Horton a little bit next, man.
32:43This guy, I have a lot of love for.
32:46I'm born in Colorado. So I'm always watching, uh, college football up there.
32:51Heart and soul of CSU, um, had an ACL tear in college.
32:55Uh, that really drove him down draft boards, but I knew it was going to be a major value in the fifth
33:02round, uh, for, for the Seahawks started to break out, right.
33:06Started to have the best game of his career, two touchdowns, and then misses the rest of the season.
33:12And they said it was a shin injury and it was, there's just not a lot of information out there.
33:19And I'm curious to see what you pulled together on this one.
33:23Yeah. When I was at the super bowl, I asked him, Hey, like, what is this shin injury?
33:29Can you just tell me what's going on a little more?
33:32And he basically said something to the tune of like, I really rushed it back from the ACL.
33:38And, uh, this is just kind of a, um, a symptom of that.
33:42But what's causing me a bit of pause is like, I've never heard of a shin injury that is going to be almost a nine month recovery period.
33:52Like they're talking about this guy. Oh, you know, we're going to not do mini camp.
33:57We'll get, we'll see if we can get them ready for training camp.
34:01Like what type of injury could possibly go be going on.
34:05And is it, is it a longterm like issue?
34:08Do you know what I mean? And how would you explain this?
34:12Like, I, I always like to say, you know, explain it to me.
34:16Like I'm five years old. Yeah. Yeah. So sounds like going off of his, his history.
34:22Well, let's start in November. He went on the IR did that due to that shin injury.
34:27Um, again, unknown exactly what this was. Sounds like they tried to manage it conservatively.
34:32So without surgery, and then they re they did more imaging on it.
34:36And they found that, oh, we actually need to do some, some surgery on this.
34:41So going off of that, it sounds like maybe it was a, a tibial or a shin stress fracture that they wanted
34:49to eventually, you know, maybe they, they re-imaged it and they found, you know, a more clear line or, or so they
34:56went through a surgery surgical process for that. Um, going off research with tibial stress fractures that require surgery.
35:02It is, it is a pretty favorable, um, return one return to play.
35:07And it, and it sounds like just going off the quotes from Mike McDonald, um, sounds like he's, he's starting to come back into, into training camp.
35:16So I think if he's sounds like he's going to be back in early July.
35:20So I think because he's, he's back and because he said so long, you know, it's not always a bad thing just
35:28because you have such a long recovery. Sometimes that's good to be able to gradually return to things, build up the strength
35:35required so you don't get another injury. So if he's back in early July, I think I'm, I'm, I'm okay with betting on him this year.
35:44So in any type of digging you've done on that, that type of injury, that stress fracture in the shin and, and
35:51kind of performance dips, anything like that, that you can add in terms of insight.
35:56Yeah, there, there, I think there was a performance dip for some cases, but again, I, it's just, there wasn't a lot of info on that specifically.
36:05Um, so I don't have concrete research for you for that, but again, I'd be, I'd be okay with betting on him
36:12just because one, there is that, that like, like, like I said, long recovery process that we don't really know what the
36:19surgery was at least from what I saw either.
36:22But I think if he's ready for July, I don't think it's going to be something that's going to impact him that much.
36:30In my opinion, that's not going off of research or anything like that.
36:34So, yeah, no, I appreciate it. And, and I'm, I'm of a similar mind that he's had a lot of time, um,
36:42to recover and he should be able to hit, hit the guns blazing, right.
36:46And be a hundred percent. Um, but again, there's just so much there that kind of like Ted, uh, Mcmillan, like we
36:54were talking about, there's just, we don't have all the, the facts on the table.
36:58And so I think that's one to kind of continue to keep an eye on as well.
37:04One, one kind of last big name I want to talk about is TJ Hawkinson.
37:09Um, and, and the reason being right, he is, he had a brutal, brutal knee injury a few years back.
37:16It was one of those contact injuries where like a player drove, dove straight for his knees.
37:21Right. I believe it was multi-ligament. Um, and so I say all of that because I've seen it in, in my fantasy
37:29football life where, Oh, two years go by Javante Williams, top of mind example.
37:33This guy's got no juice. He's cooked. He's a shell of himself.
37:37Like I'm a Broncos fan. I was fully convinced when he went to the Cowboys, Javante Williams, that they were getting dusty old dried up goods, you know?
37:47But again, I think it was that almost like third year back from a multi-ligament injury.
37:52He really started to look like the former form of himself with the Cowboys last year.
37:57You got a new quarterback with Kyler Murray. You're, I think, like I said, almost three years removed from that gruesome leg injury.
38:05The past couple of years for Hawkinson have been a shell of his former production where he was like an all pro previously.
38:12Is there any chance that the lack of production from the last few years, I, I kind of see it when I
38:20watched the film that he's lumbering around out there.
38:23He's heavy footed. Like, do you think that that could be something that he moves past in 2026 and starts to return
38:30to form and could potentially be like a sneaky target for, uh, fantasy managers?
38:35I think, I think there is a good chance of that.
38:38You mentioned Javante, um, coming back, you know, year three.
38:41Typically when you get, when you have an ACL reconstruction, the graft undergoes what's called a re-ligamentization process.
38:47So it's gaining that strength back over time. Um, not, it doesn't quite reach back to what the original ACL was, but
38:55it, it'll get back to its full strength around that two year mark.
38:59And that two year post-op from surgery for Hawkinson is, was January, 2026.
39:03So I think another full off season of training with that increased graft strength, maybe increased confidence.
39:09Um, I think that could provide a boost in his performance this year.
39:13And, and you're right. That is well-documented where in that year three, there is, there is that performance boost in, in some
39:21cases like what Javante, there is some research that says in NFL specific, specifically NFL athletes that, that drop off can go into years three and four.
39:30So again, it's not like it's a guaranteed thing, but that's just because that strength is back to where it's going to
39:37be in most cases around that two year mark.
39:40I think there is a chance that he can, he can get back and, and maybe be more of him himself before the injury this year.
39:48Yeah, man. He's just, he's so cheap. That's the reason I wanted to talk about him is he just seems like an
39:56afterthought at this point and, and rightly so with the production the past two years, but I just don't think people are
40:03really, uh, taking the full picture into account. So I wanted to touch on him for a second.
40:09Uh, let's close it out with a few fun topics.
40:12What happened to Joe Mixon, man? My guess is that he literally shot himself in the foot, or I was thinking about this just now.
40:21Maybe he dropped a bowling ball on it. Those are my two guesses.
40:25Those are something silly. He would do, uh, anything, any funny guesses as what happened to Joe Mixon.
40:31Honestly, you're, I could see, I could see the, the, the shooting himself in the foot.
40:36Honestly, it's, it's so unknown that any, and it's such a freak injury.
40:40Even some of his teammates were saying they didn't really know what was going on with them.
40:46So, um, I know he went, he underwent surgery in it, in the off season.
40:51Um, if it was truly that freak enough to keep him out for the entire season.
40:56Um, yeah, I, I don't think I'm too willing to bet on him.
41:01Um, going into this year and I don't think anyone will.
41:04So maybe, maybe at throw him in at the end of your, your best ball.
41:09Dude. I don't know. I don't think I would be off the boards, man.
41:14Nobody's touching this guy and I don't, I don't blame them, but it's just, it's just so funny.
41:20We have no information. Even I was looking at the quotes.
41:23It's like, even his teammates don't know, like, like that's, that's crazy.
41:27Yeah. Yeah. Maybe I'm sure some of them do, you know what I mean?
41:32And I, I, there will be a day where the truth comes out.
41:36Right. Um, so any big name players that you're sneakily concerned about long-term, like I thought of Bo Nix as an example,
41:44I think he's had like three ankle injuries now, right?
41:47Uh, the dynasty value is still sky high for him.
41:50Are there, don't say Bo Nix just cause I told you to say it, but like any other guys, uh, that you're sneakily concerned about long-term.
41:59Yeah. I'll touch on Bo Nix first and then I'll give you my, um, I don't think a ton of people are
42:06talking about the player I'm going to mention, but, um, but Bo Nix.
42:10Yeah. He research does say after a right ankle fracture and, and, you know, return, there is a performance dip in the
42:18first year, um, that resolves by year two to three.
42:21It's hard to apply that to quarterbacks though. And there's no position specific rank, uh, you know, research on that.
42:28So it's hard for me to, to say that he's for sure going to dip in performance just because it's such a
42:35different position, the quarterback compared to, you know, wide receiver or running back or anything like that.
42:41Um, typically timeline for return is two to four months in return to competition for NFL athletes.
42:46Like I said, yeah, it's just with, because he's a quarterback.
42:50I I'm okay with, with betting on him this year.
42:53One player that I'm, I think is kind of sneakily concerning.
42:57Um, and that kind of came up on when he was traded.
43:01AJ Brown is, does have chronic knee degeneration, according to some of the new England team doctors.
43:06So he did have surgery on both knees because of the generative change.
43:11It sounds like it was like a cleanup, um, on both knees.
43:15And I think it was 2021. So the reason I'm a little bit concerned about that one, the fact that it's both
43:22knees, we talked a little bit about compensation injuries before.
43:25So if there's no necessarily good knee in a sense, um, that the biomechanics can kind of altered in that sense and
43:33put stress in other areas and maybe cause some additional injuries.
43:36Now he's done well since 2021, but with obviously the NFL.
43:40It's significant stress you're putting on your knees year in, year out.
43:44So it could be that this is the year where he maybe feels that a little bit more and is, you know,
43:51he's getting up, you know, older in terms of age too.
43:55So, um, he's been fine the past couple of years, but it's definitely a sneaky one to, you know, be a little bit concerned about.
44:03No, I'm man. I'm glad you said him because there was some quote he had like after their Superbowl with the Eagles
44:10where he's talking about getting his knee drained like twice a week.
44:14And I'm like, Oh yeah, I did. I'm not a doctor, but anybody who's draining their knee twice a week is probably
44:22not someone to like go hitch your wagon to for the next five years.
44:26Right. And so that one is so risky, man.
44:29Cause he could literally be Randy Moss, right? Like Josh McDaniel was the coordinator when Randy Moss came there to new England and had an incredible season.
44:38You got Drake may throwing him the football. Like if he can stay healthy, he's, he's an awesome target, but I do agree.
44:46Those are, there's some serious concerns there, especially longterm.
44:49So really glad you brought him up. Let's close it out, man.
44:53Give me one bold prediction for the 2026 season.
44:56Yeah. I don't know if this is considered bold, but, um, I, we talked a little bit about quarterbacks, um, and how they're a little bit different.
45:05I think Patrick Mahomes is going to come back from his injury.
45:09I think he's going to have a good year.
45:12Um, I look at a historical comp, like, uh, for example, Joe Burrell.
45:16Um, we talked about how ACL injuries first year back as performance dip.
45:20Um, and Joe Burrell didn't have that. I think Patrick Mahomes is going to be similar in the fact that I think
45:28he's going to return and be, be better than he was even in the past year or so too.
45:34So, so that's my bold prediction. I think Patrick Mahomes is going to be back to an elite quarterback.
45:40You heard it here first guys. Best days are yet to come for, uh, for I'm thinking Joe Burrell.
45:46Cause you just said I'm best days are ahead for the greatest quarterback of all time.
45:52Most likely Patrick Mahomes.
