3:27We have a quick question of the day. It is about lowball trades.
3:31This question comes from Instagram from Matt. Do you send lowball trade offers to start or fair trades from the rip?
3:38That is worded so humorously to me. I like the, like, hey, do you intentionally send a trade that you think is not fair?
3:46I mean, what is fair? That is my beginning to the entire principle.
3:50What is fair? Fair is different for everybody because we all believe in players differently.
3:55The question, I believe, at the heart is saying, do you start where you want to finish?
4:00Or do you think, I'm willing to do a second, so I'll offer a third to start.
4:06We'll debate. Because we've got to work our way up.
4:09Right. And, you know, I think historically it doesn't work well.
4:13Like, you just never, I don't believe that when you start with a lowball offer that it usually gets negotiated into a good...
4:20That's the argument for it is, I'm trying to open the conversation.
4:24It depends who you're dealing with. It really does.
4:27Yes. We've been in a league long enough where I know the people that want the last word.
4:33So I know when I... You have to leave the margin then.
4:36I always know I'm going to get a counter, so I have to leave margin for those people.
4:42The old Coletti rule. Okay, not just one person.
4:45But that is an incredible shout out. Someone share that with our old friend.
4:50I would say that, like, again, I will come back to the point.
4:54Fairness is not objective. But I think when you're saying fairness, you're saying the person's going to receive the offer and go,
5:01okay, that's interesting, instead of getting it and going...
5:04Certainly. I do not want that reaction. I do not want somebody rolling their eyes and just giving up on the trade.
5:11I do want a trade to be sent that is, I can persuade the person into why it's good for both of us.
5:18That is the art of the deal. The trade.
5:21Sure. You do need to be able to paint the picture.
5:25I don't want to just send a blind offer.
5:28When I look at making trades and trade offers, even if they're lowball offers perceptively by you guys, which I think 100%
5:35of the ones I've ever sent, you guys have thought were lowball offers.
5:39So I have to put myself in that category.
5:42I want to be able to make a compelling case.
5:45That's what I am trying to build for somebody.
5:48If I look at our draft right now, when I click on each person's name, I'm seeing their situation, the keepers they have, the picks they have.
5:57I'm trying to... The offer might be lowball in your mind, but I'm like, well, you don't have a pick from the third to the sixth round.
6:05So you pick up. My argument then to them is, well, you pick up two picks between those two for this player.
6:12I don't know if you guys would say those two picks are fair or not.
6:17Yeah. Let me ask an anecdotal question here that kind of is at the heart of this.
6:23In your experience, in all of our experience, do we think, from what we can remember, that the trades we have accomplished,
6:30the trades that got done, do those usually get past the finish line after back and forth in negotiation, or usually the
6:37trades that go through were just offered and accepted?
6:40Back and forth. I have found most trades that I am a part of, they're done fast.
6:45That's how I'm... It's like, I send the offer, or it comes to me, and I'm just like, oh, yeah, that makes sense.
6:53That's how I think both of our experiences are, Mike, and somehow Andy is always able to just really get into the conversation on every trade.
7:01Because he knows who's willing to listen to a conversation.
7:04Yeah. I mean, yes. Part of it is reading the people and getting to know them and speaking their language.
7:11And part of it is if you start lower, your counter might end up lower.
7:16I mean, that's the truth. Like, if you start at a place that they aren't, they're not aghast and they're not pulling
7:23back in horror, your counter might be just something you like.
7:26I mean, that is... So you, so I would say, are you saying that you generally do come in with a little bit lower offers?
7:34Is that what you're saying? Um, yeah. Everyone else's opinion would say it's lower.
7:39Yeah. His was, is it's great. No, I don't think they're great.
7:43Okay. I think that you have to say that out loud.
7:46I don't think they're always great. There are situations where like, if I, if I'm trading with one of you guys, you're
7:53not, I know that like, you know how I'm thinking about it.
7:57You've known me well enough to know how I'm thinking about the trade.
8:01We've pulled off lots of trades. You and I did.
8:04I mean, you, you are the example of your trade.
8:08Now I'm just going to, I'm going to paint the picture again.
8:12Earlier in the off season, I'm playing for this year.
8:15Jason's playing for the future. We're in a keeper league.
8:18His picks are thin. His keepers aren't as strong.
8:21He had some bad lottery luck and he sends me a trade offer and he sends me CD lamb for my Malik neighbors.
8:28And it's a month, two months ago. I just got to accept the trade was done in five seconds.
8:34I didn't come in and low ball, but yeah, yeah, I should have is what you're saying.
8:40No, you said that. That's the part I wanted to point out is after we got the deal done, which was fabulous and awesome.
8:48And I'm glad you sent it. We had never talked before and we just got it done for both of us.
8:54But right afterwards, immediately after you're like, I should have included a pick in that thing.
9:00I know I could have gotten, you said that repeatedly.
9:03I know I could have got a pick back from you.
9:06So you, you did take the path of least resistance and you got the deal done, but you had some regret.
9:13I didn't. So I don't have regret. Maybe I should have regret because I could have gotten another pick, right?
9:20I mean, for sure. You would have thrown in a fourth round pick.
9:24Of course I would have. So, so I should have regret, but I don't because I was like, I still like the trade for me for my goals.
9:33That's fine. But I mean, you did bring it up a couple of times.
9:37It's all I'm telling. I'm very excited for you to yet again, having a traded CD lamb away, be it just explode
9:44in your face and be so dumb for you.
9:47Oh, you've done that before. Yeah. I traded you CD lamb when you won the championship with him and dad.
9:54I do think the biggest thing. However, however, when that happened, when I traded CD lamb away, it was for an injured
10:01Justin Jefferson, who I then won the championship with the next year.
10:05So we're just playing this back and forth. The two year plan.
10:09I don't care what happens to you. Yeah. But I, it would be like the nightmare scenarios that you like lamb more
10:16than neighbors going into next year's draft. Correct. That would be bad.
10:19But you do like lamb. I love both those players.
10:23So you are expecting lamb to have a great season.
10:26I am. I mean, if this was redraft, I obviously lamb is a first rounder to me and I wouldn't dream of
10:33drafting Malik in this year's first round. I think some of what we said is helpful.
10:38Okay. I hope so. And I'm not going to pull the deucers of whether it was or not, but I think some
10:45of it was insightful and everybody thinks about these things differently.
10:49Everybody, the biggest part, I think that we would all agree is we all trade differently with different people.
10:55We all know what they, what they like and they don't like what kind of trades they receive and don't.
11:01Some people really want you to have a conversation with them before you send a trade offer.
11:07Some people love getting as many trade offers in the system as they can as thought starters.
11:12So everybody's different. Have you ever been personally offended by a trade offer, Mike?
11:17I mean, personally. By me? No. I don't think I've really been personally offended.
11:21I've seen ones where you're just like, that's dumb.
11:24I'm just throwing it out there. Yeah. What are you doing?
11:28Ask me. Have you ever been personally offended? Of course.
11:31You send out some garbage sometimes. I do get a lot of from you.
11:35I know that he doesn't. I know that he doesn't.
11:39Nonsense reply. He doesn't expect me to say yes.
11:42I think you literally just offered me the 307 in our keeper.
11:45301. 301. The 301. Okay. Let's see how offensive this is.
11:49Which in our keeper league is basically the 601.
11:52Yes. Sort of. No. At that point. It's sort of.
11:55At that point. It's exactly. That is for sure.
11:58It is the six round pick for Josh Jacobs.
12:01Oh. So it's pretty insulting. But that was the final counter to an agreement we weren't reaching.
12:06Yeah. Obviously. You offered me Jacobs for Hampton. Wait.
12:09So what? You were just trying to shut the trade down.
12:13Sort of. Yeah. You were like, I'm done talking.
12:16And you did. I was closing the door, but I didn't want to close with a decline.
12:21I wanted to close with something he could decline.
12:24I'll make him an offer he has to refuse.
12:27I tried. I just want him thinking, I tried to get it over the finish line.
12:32Oh, that's not what I thought. Just so you know what I thought is.
12:37This is your. I sent it. I pretty much realized I didn't want Josh Jacobs, and that was my answer to the question.
12:44Geez Louise. Which, by the way, if he goes to prison, that's a good deal for you.
12:50I would agree. Okay. Which you once escaped. I did.
12:53A prison sentence. I got a sixth rounder for Aaron Hernandez.
12:56Woo! Who shall not be. Right. What are you going to?

13:06Al, do you want to weigh in at all with the way the three of us trade?
13:12Any thoughts? Not really. I've never been personally offended.
13:15You ever personally offended other people by taking them out of a trade they invented?
13:20And then you got your deal done, and then they were kicked out of the trade, even though they were so creative?
13:27No, not me. I do like the back and forth of the negotiation.
13:31I like to, just like when I'm buying something on Facebook Marketplace, I'm always going to start a little lower than asking price.
13:38I think Papa Josh is the hardest one to trade with in this room, though.
13:43Would we agree with that? In this room? Yeah.
13:46Especially now that he's got a co-manager. Because, Josh, you are guilty of the, my players are all the best disease.
13:53Even the ones you want. Oh, man. Even the ones you hate.
13:57You can only paint the picture if they are the best.
14:00Got to drive the value up, man. Which now, it might not be strategic.
14:05It might be like this vacation he went on where he went to spider cabins and sat out in the heat, and
14:12it was like the best vacation ever. Maybe everybody is the best player ever.
14:16Maybe he's just an optimist. He's just, well, except for the players he's receiving in the trade.

16:06What's up, Ballers? My league of record adopted your league of record and the keeper policy with the franchise player.
16:12I didn't know if you guys had any suggestions on what type of player you like to franchise versus what type of
16:19players you like to put into lottery. Thanks for taking my question on the mailbag.
16:24Mailbag! Not bad. Okay. Thanks. That's pretty good. We may need to clip that for the days Mike's not here.
16:31Yeah. So in our format, the way it works is you choose one player to guarantee lock you get them.
16:37It's your franchise player, any player on your roster.
16:40Then you put three other players into a lottery.
16:43The only thing is, is those three cannot share the same position of your franchise.
16:48So if you franchise Christian McCaffrey, can't put another running back in your lottery, you're going to lose one of your three lottery keepers at random.
16:56And so I think for me personally, and I don't know if we have different strategies for me personally, what I want
17:03is one of the top three, the 101, 102, 103 type of pick for my franchise.
17:08That is worth everything. And then I'll make my franchise, then I'll make my keepers work around it.
17:14If I don't have one of those guys, man, it is nice to have that like tight end.
17:20You know, if you've got a Bowers or a McBride where now I can keep whatever, you know, wide outs and a running back.
17:28Yeah. And the other gives me so much flexibility when it comes to Josh Allen at the franchise.
17:33Sure. Yeah, absolutely. Basically, most of the time the franchise players running back are wide out.
17:39So it knocks that the rest of those positions out of your out of your keeper lottery.
17:44And for those that are new to this or, you know, this is how we do our League of Records.
17:50So we have a day every year where we all gather on Zoom and we spin a wheel and one of your
17:58three players drops back into the draft. This is one of the ways to make it more exciting for the top of the draft.
18:05Like this year. Oh, man. This year there's Jameer Gibbs.
18:08There's CMC. There's JSN. There's Puka. Those are all players people risked and lost.
18:13There's six great ones. There's Jonathan Taylor. Yeah. But Jason drafts at seven.
18:17Yes, I do. There is a tear break of death.
18:20It really, really is. It's unbelievable. I'll tell you this.
18:24I've almost traded into our first round like five times and I pull my trades back because I'm not sure if 107
18:31to 112 is better or worse than 211 or 304.
18:34It's crazy. But that's how we rock it and it's super fun.
18:38Players are regularly risked. I think last year, Al, didn't you lose somebody huge?
18:42Oh, yeah, he did. Who did you lose last year?
18:46Was it Trey McBride or? No. No. Was it Bijan?
18:49It was Bijan Robinson. Oh. Okay. I thought that was two years ago, but yes, it hurts.
18:54I went on a four-year streak of losing the guy I didn't want to lose with a 33% chance.
19:00Yeah. It's dangerous. That was me this year. It's super fun as an event every year.
19:06Lost Jonathan Taylor. Yeah. I mean, I would say that very frequently people risk.
19:10They take a risk with a couple of running backs or something like that because Mike this year had Bijan, CMC, and Chase Brown.
19:18And so he put those into his keeper lottery because at worst case, you're ending up with a couple of names you really like.
19:25He didn't want to lose Bijan. He didn't lose Bijan.
19:29He might have ended up with what he actually wanted.
19:32I guess Bijan CMC would have been better. It would have, yeah.
19:36But that's a good situation where you kind of understand how it works.
19:40It's fun for the build of your team, too, because as you go along, knowing you're going to have restrictions on who
19:47you can keep, like as you're trying to win a championship.
19:51So you're trying to do that, but you're also trying to position yourself to have the best keeper lottery that you can have.
19:58So it is a little variable of fun. If you're in leagues like that, too, I would say that the most underrated
20:05thing is having a great keeper set. Like you think picks are the most important thing, but if you have three good keepers, it's super valuable.
20:13Follow-up question from Instagram on our League of Record.
20:16Is there a limit on how long you can keep a franchise player?
20:21Nope. No. But I will say I don't think anybody's really kept them super long.
20:25The only one that is historically just awful was when Mike had his reign of terror with Antonio Brown.
20:32Yeah. All of Antonio Brown's great years were all Mike's.
20:35No one ever. And he never traded him. No one ever had him.
20:39I eventually traded him to Josh. For what? I don't even remember.
20:43But it was at the end. That's when you tore your shirt off and ran off the field after that, after your run of terror.
20:51We also have somebody asking about what do you use to work out the keeper lottery?
20:56Is it a spreadsheet? Is it something in the sleeper app?
21:00I think we literally use a free app on the app store where it just breaks up a pie into three slices
21:07and the wheel spins and we just show that on the screen to each other, which builds the drama.
21:13In the past, we have used more like a Tumblr.
21:16A Tumblr. I don't know. I think it's a hopper.
21:19Hopper. Like a raffle. Ping pong ball type of thing.
21:22Yeah, like a golden hopper. A golden hopper. You can use pieces of paper and a hat.
21:28It's called a hopper? Yeah, it's a hopper. The stuff inside of it definitely tumbles more than I would say it hops.
21:35It could be a Tumblr, but it's a hopper too.
21:38It's like what they do for- Oh, you put the rocks in a Tumblr?
21:43It's like a bingo. Make them all shiny? Like a bingo Tumblr.

21:55Hopper? Hopper. What is the best heated rivalry in your home league, and who gets the angriest among the ballers and deucers when they lose?
22:03Jason gets the angriest. That's true. Easily. I think second place- What an emotional man.
22:08Second place angriest would be Al Borland. I think that's true.
22:12Third would be- Probably me. You. Hey, and just wins and losses are not that different, guys.
22:17Yeah. Everything is everything. In terms of the most heated rivalry in our home league, for most of- I mean, I feel
22:24like Jason and I had that for many, many years when we were in the same division.
22:30Yeah. I would say at this point- I still haven't gotten over it.
22:34Like, we're not in the same division now, and I still root for your demise more than anyone.
22:40Yeah, that makes sense. I think anybody playing against Josh becomes a rivalry that week.
22:45Yeah, that's fair. Who wants to lose to that guy?

36:24I will say I witnessed something on the course the other day...
36:28Uh-oh. ...two weeks ago involving Al Borland and Jason.

36:34We were. Let me just tell you my perspective for that.
36:38Oh, no. Describe the visual. Yes. Oh, no. So I always hit my drive about 100 yards farther than these guys.
36:44So I'm always way further down the course. That's true.
36:48Let me start there. And then I'm out there looking.
36:51I'm sizing up my next shot, which was much closer than their next shot.
36:55You know what I mean? Because of the drive.
36:58And so I look back over my left shoulder and I see Jason Moore just oddly sprinting in the fairway.
37:05I'm sprinting as fast as I can. I can't sprint faster.
37:08Falling on his feet. If you can fall while walking, he's doing that.
37:12Yeah, the fall forward. And the reason... And he doesn't...

40:14And I walk up there. And the guy, there's a dude.
40:18And he looks at me. And he is 11 out of 10 upset.
40:22And he goes, you want to know where that ball actually landed?
40:26And I go, oh, man, where? He goes, it hit my kid in the foot.
40:31And I go, holy crap. I go, I am so sorry.
40:34I can't see over here. The hills are here.
40:37I didn't know anybody was over here. And the kid goes, no, it didn't, Dad.
40:42Just an angry man. And then he goes, yeah, I landed by his foot.
40:46So, the dude is trying to make me feel worse.
40:50Oh, man. You just got to hit him with it.
40:53So, you're telling me I carried 270? Yeah. I should have.
40:56But he was trying to get me to think I hit the kid.

41:42I feel like it would be more easy and more accomplishing to win the league by yourself.
41:47Oh, there's some good answers for this thing. First of all, they get no glory.
41:52Oh, absolutely. The glory is ours. It's yours. We don't do.
41:56Well, sometimes the glory is the co-manager. Like Kyle fixing Jeremy's team or Matt fixing Josh's team.
42:01But again, Kyle got all the glory in that situation.
42:04That's true. But, well, he was the main manager.
42:07You're right. Anyways, back to the question. It started, I mean, there was just no room.
42:12This is the League of Record, popular, fun, passionate.
42:15Popular. Well, my point is there's a waiting list.
42:18Like people want in the league. There are at least two to three people at any moment who want in this league.
42:25Over time, now there's probably maybe three to four now.
42:28No, there's 12. You basically have to be a co-manager.
42:32It's the most popular league. In order to get.
42:35Everybody talks about it. If someone leaves, you have to have been a co-manager for a number of years to get in now.
42:42Yeah. So that's what it's developed into. Bang your deuce.
42:45And I will say I was. It's a chance to be a part of the League of Records.
42:51So a lot of people jump in as co-managers.
42:54And they get to come to the draft. And they're friends of ours.
42:58Or my son is my co-manager. And they have, I mean, at least the way my team operates is I do what
43:05I please and tell them about it after to see if he liked it.
43:10I was very much on the, I'm not, I won't have a co-manager.
43:14I'm going to win. I will take all the glory.
43:17When I win, it was me. But now that I've had a couple different co's and Kyle's my co-manager at League of Records, it's just fun.
43:25And it's another person when you're in the draft, you can actually talk to somebody.
43:30Draft day is the biggest advantage of it is you just have like somebody at your table.
43:36Draft day or you have, you know, a good co-manager should be, you kind of just.
43:41The idea man. You or woman. You have some ideas and also clean up.
43:45Like check the, I co-manage with Jason in the Dynasty Junior League.
43:49And so it's like every once in a while, I'll just peek at the waiver wire or Sunday morning.
43:55I'll have it in my process of like just double checking that that league is good.
44:01I'm not. You bring things to my attention. You say, hey.
44:04I'm not trying to run the whole team. Do we want to go look at this?
44:09Do we want to make this swap? It, and it's just, it's, it's actually really fun and really nice to have someone
44:16to talk to because a, you know, we have a saying in fantasy football, no one cares about your fantasy football team.
44:23Right. No one cares about your team. It's like listening to people's dreams.
44:28You know what I mean? It's like, I don't care.
44:31I won't dream last night. They seem so important to you.
44:34And when you have a co, someone actually cares about your league and it's, it's nice.
44:40It is. It's, it actually amplifies the fun. It really does.

44:50Listener of the week. Uh, what is your ideal retirement lifestyle look like?
44:54It's changed recently. It's changed because right now my, my retirement really, really changed full one 80.
44:59I want to live on a, on a golf course.
45:02What was it before the golf course? Um, I think it would have been be able to retire young.
45:09Is it a vacation a lot? Yeah. And probably audition for things that I just want to.
45:14Oh, that's fun. That's kind of cool. I know you get, you got rid of that for golf.
45:20Yeah. Now it's just wake up, make the senior to go to the clubhouse, hang out there all day.
45:26Get some rounds of golf. The country club life does seem like it could be pretty cool.
45:31I want travel and Island life. Yeah. My wife.
45:34So we visited. Chill man. Maui for the first time a couple of years ago, which we had a great time.
45:41And then she's like, because we've gotten into golf and it's boiling hot out.
45:46She's like, I bet you'd really love to live there now because of the three 65 golfing.
45:51Yes. Which there's not, that's why people do love Arizona.
45:54We don't realize it. Well, because we never have like courses shut down for five months due to snow, but it is someplace should be shut down.
46:03They keep them open when it's one 10. I just saw some, some, so we did, we made a horrible mistake a few weeks ago.
46:11We played 18 holes in the morning. Some clouds came out briefly and then we're like, let's play 18 more.
46:17And so I just saw some people, local friends of mine that just did that.
46:22And they all had to get IVs afterwards, which I think you guys, you and Jeremy at least needed those on that day.
46:30Myself too. It was just too hot. But again, would you rather golf in a hot climate or not golf at all?
46:37Jason, probably not golf. I mean, it gets really turned down an invite this morning.
