Golden made a remarkable third-down catch on a deep shot down the right side against one-on-one coverage, tracking a ball thrown to his outside shoulder after initially looking to his inside shoulder, juggling it multiple times before securing it for 45 yards. The source notes this was 'maybe the first really remarkable play of Matthew Golden's career' and describes it as 'a kind of catch you don't often see the player follow through on,' highlighting his talent and ability to make difficult plays.PositiveUsageSep 24, 2026
Golden falls into a category where the Packers don't have a clear plan for him early in games, but when they fall behind, he gets a bunch of targets to help catch up. He could have had a bigger game in Week 2 but is usable in Week 3 against the Falcons, especially if the game script favors passing.NegativeRoleSep 22, 2026
Golden was shut out in the first half but had one big play and two deep shots in the second half where Jets had to tackle him to prevent long touchdowns; with Jaden Reed out, Golden enters deeper consideration, but teams' game plans suggest he wasn't much part of the plan until Green Bay fell way behind—this is the second straight game showing limited early involvement.PositiveProjectionSep 17, 2026
The source selected Matthew Golden at $4,700 for DFS, noting that Golden looked like a true and obvious wide receiver for the Packers and out-targeted Christian Watson. At the modest $4,700 price, the source is comfortable with the selection despite Watson receiving more headlines.PositiveSleeperAug 13, 2026
Paywall Andy targets Matthew Golden in the double-digit rounds as a player who could provide significant value if he hits, though he notes some skepticism regarding his tape compared to Jaden Higgins.PositiveSleeperAug 13, 2026
Eisenberg identifies Golden as a post-hype sleeper, noting that with 135 vacated targets in Green Bay, Golden has the upside to be a big-play threat and potentially mirror Jaden Reed's usage.NegativeBustJul 10, 2026
Harris regrets moving Matthew Golden up in rankings during training camp last year despite pre-training camp conviction he was not a good receiver and Packers reached for him in draft. Golden received nothing but puff pieces from Packers organization and beat reporters during August, with GM and coaches raving about him, causing Harris to begrudgingly move him up and draft him in handful of leagues. Golden finished as WR 40 last year. Harris uses Golden as cautionary example of how training camp hype can override pre-camp conviction. Opportunity cost of reaching on Golden: could have had Mecca Buka instead in eighth or ninth round, who was better at least for couple months.NegativeBustNo date
The source is skeptical of Matthew Golden as a training camp riser despite the Packers' 79-year drought without a first-round WR. Golden looked awful last year, with Aaron Rodgers throwing some of his worst passes to him, including an underthrown deep ball in a Thursday night game. The source explicitly rejects the bait of raising his rank based on beat guy hype and will not draft him above round 14 as a total flyer, rating him 54th among wide receivers.
