0:00There's no position more important to
0:02win in fantasy football in 2026 than
0:04running back. These are the five running
0:06backs that I'm betting my entire fantasy
0:08football season on. I've done over a
0:10thousand fantasy football drafts before
0:12the start of July. Trust me when I tell
0:14you, if these guys have a good year, I'm
0:16going to be in for a big season. We are
0:18going to begin with the oft injured
0:20Kenneth Walker. Apparently, that is the
0:22rap that has followed him around his
0:23career. He is now gone to the Kansas
0:25City Chiefs, signed a big free agent
0:27contract. His competition on the depth
0:29chart is rookie Emmett Johnson and
0:30career backup Amari Di Mercado. Now, in
0:33recent years, we have come to think of
0:35the Kansas City Chiefs backfield as one
0:37of the worst backfields to be involved
0:39in. Damien Williams, Darrel Williams,
0:41Isiah Pacheco, Jerick McKinnon, Kareem
0:43Hunt, it's been a huge mess. One thing
0:45we know is that the Chiefs have also
0:47been 32nd in the NFL three years in a
0:50row in explosive run rate and that
0:52Mahomes is coming back from an ACL
0:53injury. I think that Andy Reid is going
0:55to get back to the way his old
0:57backfields work where the complement was
0:59being an Andy Reid running back. LeSean
1:01McCoy, Brian Westbrook, the first end of
1:04Kareem Hunt. I mean, even Damien
1:05Williams and Darrel Williams both had
1:07stretches of being running back ones in
1:10fantasy football. If we look at the
1:11stretch of Kenneth Walker's career,
1:13obviously, he has been a great fantasy
1:16football running back when he has been
1:18given the snaps. Just for the most of
1:20his career, he has not been given the
1:21snaps. Averaged 16 fantasy points per
1:24game when he played 11 games in 2024.
1:26Most importantly, 4.8 targets per game,
1:294.2 receptions per game.
1:32I think that for the 2026 Kansas City
1:35Chiefs, I think that he's going to play
1:36about 65 to 70% of the snaps. I would
1:39not be surprised for him to be the
1:41primary goal line weapon, period. Not
1:43just goal line runner, goal line weapon,
1:45period. I think that a 20 touchdown
1:47season, you heard me right, a 20
1:49touchdown season for Kenneth Walker is
1:51in play and even if he gets back close
1:53to his averages, I mean, in 2024 for a
1:56full season had he played. Those would
1:59have been phenomenal numbers. Only 52
2:01rushing yards per game despite averaging
2:02over 65 rushing yards per game over the
2:05course of his career. He was such a good
2:07runner in 2022. If he gets to 1,200
2:11yards, 10 touchdowns as a rusher, my
2:13imagination is that his receiving
2:15numbers are going to look much more like
2:17his 2024 numbers than his career
2:19numbers. I don't think Kenneth Walker is
2:20going to have to leave the field in
2:22obvious passing down and distances for
2:24Amari Demercado as much as the market
2:26thinks. You might disagree with me, but
2:28I think that Kenneth Walker is basically
2:30the single most important running back
2:32in fantasy football this year. He is a
2:33second round pick though. You're not
2:35going to be able to take Kenneth Walker
2:36in all of your drafts. This next guy,
2:38you will have the option to take in all
2:40of your drafts and for me it is going to
2:42be one Mr. Byshell Tuiton
2:44who comes in with a 9.39 RAS. He was not
2:48very involved for the Jacksonville
2:50Jaguars behind Etienne in 2025. However,
2:54they let Etienne walk in free agency.
2:56They traded away Tank Bigsby to the
2:58Philadelphia Eagles so that Tuiton could
3:00get more playing time. They did not add
3:02anyone significant outside of Chris
3:04Rodriguez on a two-year $10 million deal
3:07with smatcher incentives. Now, Chris
3:09Rodriguez was head coach Liam Coen's
3:11workhorse running back in college.
3:13However, do you guys know just how
3:16hilariously bad Chris Rodriguez has been
3:18as a pass catcher in the NFL?
3:20I feel like maybe people don't know
3:21this.
3:22But he has been in the NFL since 2023.
3:25He has a grand total of six receptions.
3:27You cannot play this guy in any
3:29situation other than an obvious rushing
3:32distances. He also for the Washington
3:35Commanders took forever to get any of
3:37his jobs. Some of his fancy metrics do
3:39look all right. I I'm not going to lie
3:41to you guys and say that Chris Rodriguez
3:43is the worst football player in the
3:44world. However, what I do know
3:47is that Byshell Tuiton is the more
3:48dynamic player. I know that he is the
3:50more versatile player. I know that that
3:52I think that the Jacksonville Jaguars
3:54are going to be a top-five, six, sevens
3:56offense in football. Lequinte Allen Jr.
3:59is going to get some long
4:00down-and-distance snaps as he did last
4:02year. I also know that in the playoff
4:04game against the Buffalo Bills, Ryquell
4:06Armstead looked like the best player on
4:08the team and had the Jacksonville
4:09Jaguars just stuck with that one-two
4:11punch of Etienne and Touton on the
4:13ground, then I think they probably would
4:15have won that game instead of having
4:17that playoff loss. The Jaguars also
4:19attempted to decide J.K. Dobbins in free
4:21agency. He turned them down to return to
4:23the Denver Broncos. So, I think there
4:25was always going to be some kind of
4:27complement to Touton in the backfield.
4:29For my spot, I actually think that Chris
4:32Rodriguez Jr. is the perfect complement
4:34because it is keeping Ryquell Touton's
4:36price down in fantasy football, which is
4:38basically the most important thing that
4:40we could ask for right now. For a
4:42fifth-round pick, I don't think that you
4:44were going to find a player with a
4:45higher ceiling than this. My imagination
4:48is that his workload looks something
4:50like it did last year. He's going to get
4:51I In fact, this game right here against
4:53the Chargers, 15 rushes. I think that's
4:55kind of right about what we should
4:56expect for his baseline to be. The real
4:59question will be how involved can Touton
5:01be as a pass-catcher?
5:04And how involved can he be as a
5:05goal-line rusher? Because if he's losing
5:06all the passing downs to Lequinte Allen
5:08Jr. and all the goal-line work to Chris
5:10Rodriguez Jr., well, guess what? I will
5:13end up being wrong. But my belief is in
5:15the talent of Ryquell Touton and I think
5:16that he can outperform that to a
5:18significant degree. Next up, we are
5:20going to move down the running back
5:22list. We've got a second-round pick.
5:23We've got a fifth-round pick. We are now
5:25going to go to the next guy by my
5:27rankings and by the rankings over on
5:28Flock Fantasy, but we are going to
5:30highlight one Mr. Jaylen Warren, who
5:33after last season averaging 13.5 fantasy
5:36points per game sharing a backfield with
5:38Kenneth Gainwell, now has to share a
5:40backfield with Rico Dowdle, who comes
5:42over basically with Mike McCarthy, who
5:44gave Rico Dowdle his first extensive
5:46play for the Dallas Cowboys. And you
5:48might be saying, "Davis, you know, this
5:49doesn't make a ton of sense. Why would
5:51we want the guy who doesn't profile to
5:53get the passing downs?" Because the
5:55passing downs with Aaron Rodgers is what
5:57we really want. First off, I think that
5:59Aaron Rodgers is going to throw to
6:00running backs on first down, second
6:01down, and third down. This is an
6:03absolute check-down Charlie. He doesn't
6:06want to keep plays alive. He doesn't
6:07want to get outside of the pocket. So,
6:09whichever running back is on the field,
6:11whether it be Warren, whether it be
6:12Gainwell, whether it be Eli Heidenreich,
6:13whether it be Caleb Johnson, that guy is
6:16going to be involved. I mean, Jaylen
6:17Warren is certainly going to get the
6:18goal-line work. And I think there are
6:20reasons to believe that the Steelers
6:22offense might be better this upcoming
6:23season. They hired a Mick Shanny tree,
6:26Brian Angelino. They hired him away from
6:28the Minnesota Vikings. Arthur Smith is
6:30no longer in the building.
6:32They also made significant improvements
6:34to their wide receiver group, adding
6:36Michael Pittman Jr. and then drafting
6:38Jamyrr Bernard out of Alabama. I frankly
6:40think the Steelers could be a top half
6:42of the league offense, which is not a
6:44very popular opinion. And I have always
6:46thought that Jaylen Warren is good.
6:48Jaylen Warren has averaged over 4 and
6:491/2 yards per carry for his career. He
6:52has been above league average in rushing
6:53yards over expectation for his career.
6:55He has been above average in missed
6:57tackles for us for his career, you know,
6:59over 22% of a juke rate every single
7:02year of his career. He's also over 6
7:04yards per target. Like, this is just a
7:06very good running back. And yes, many
7:08times he's been forced to be a
7:09complement to Najee Harris. He's been
7:11forced to be a complement to Kenny
7:12Gainwell. They tried to draft Caleb
7:14Johnson in the third round. They've
7:15tried to replace him. Yet, every time
7:17they try and replace him, they always
7:19end up coming back to Jaylen Warren. And
7:22in the year where running back is more
7:23expensive than ever, I feel like being
7:25able to take Jaylen Warren in the
7:27seventh and the eighth round is just the
7:29kind of bankable production that makes
7:31fantasy football teams advance to the
7:33post season. I think Jaylen Warren is
7:35incredibly important in fantasy football
7:37this year. Moving up to the next guy on
7:39our list, I was really stuck here. I was
7:41like, do I want to go with RJ Harvey,
7:43who I believe in, but is in a more
7:45complicated situation, or do I want to
7:47go with J'Mycal Hasty Merritt?
7:50I landed on J'Mycal Hasty Merritt, who
7:51is the number four running back on our
7:53list. It's a crazy backfield for the
7:55Washington Commanders. Not only do they
7:57have JCM, they have Rashad White, they
7:59have Jeremy McNichols, they have Robert
8:02Henry Jr. from the University of
8:03Texas-San Antonio, and then they also
8:06have Jerome Ford. It's a huge
8:07complicated backfield, not to mention
8:09Ke'Shawn Allen, who is basically Penn
8:11State J'Mycal Hasty Merritt. But, the
8:13way that I view this situation right now
8:15is that Rashad White is only making $2
8:17million. He is making effectively the
8:19veteran minimum, and he's only signed
8:21with the Commanders because he was best
8:23friends with Jayden Daniels as they
8:24played together at Arizona State. My
8:27summarization of the situation is that
8:29JCM is the most talented runner. I think
8:32he is a much better runner than Rashad
8:33White. I know he is a better runner than
8:35Jeremy McNichols, and I guess that he is
8:38a better runner than Ke'Shawn Allen. I
8:40could definitely be wrong, but what I
8:41like about J'Mycal Hasty Merritt right
8:43now is that he is less expensive than he
8:46was last season when he was a seventh or
8:48eighth round pick in fantasy football.
8:50He had multiple 100-yard rushing games.
8:53He proved himself to be a capable
8:55touchdown rusher. I mean, how many
8:56running backs do you know profile as,
9:00you know, a late round pick despite the
9:01fact that they scored eight rushing
9:03touchdowns and had 800 rushing yards as
9:05a clear starting running back. Now, he
9:08was not involved at all as a receiver,
9:10which is a huge issue.
9:12Ben Standig, who covers the Washington
9:14Commanders, had a great article that
9:16came out about 3 weeks ago that was
9:17basically profiling the decision-making
9:20from the Commanders coaches, where they
9:21said, "Hey, one of the things we really
9:23want to see from JCM this year is we
9:26want to see him improve as a pass
9:27catcher, because if he is able to
9:29improve as a pass catcher, then we can
9:31play him on different downs and
9:33distances. We will not have to be
9:34reliant on Jeremy McNichols. We won't
9:36have to be reliant on Rashad White.
9:38Other teams won't know, obviously, what
9:40we're doing based on the running back
9:42who is on the field. And again, if I'm
9:44wrong about Jacory Crosswell Merritt,
9:46he's an easy cut in redraft leagues.
9:48He's a little bit worse to me in best
9:50ball leagues where basically his zeros
9:53are going to end up having a huge impact
9:55on you. But if look, if it's week four
9:57and Rashad White is getting a lion's
9:58share of the work, no harm, no foul. You
10:01can cut Jacory Crosswell Merritt. But if
10:02you look at the guys he's going behind,
10:04I don't think that Blake Corum can
10:05become this year's starter. I don't
10:07think Kenneth Gainwell can become this
10:08year's starter. I prefer JCM's range of
10:11outcomes to Aaron Jones. I think these
10:13are all relatively self-evident
10:16positions to be taken. And so, I think
10:18that Jacory Crosswell Merritt is a guy
10:19I'm very comfortable betting my fantasy
10:22football season on. And next, we are
10:24going to go to someone that you guys all
10:26knew was coming.
10:27And we're going to go to one Mr. Keaton
10:29Mitchell, who has not played a ton up
10:31into this stage of his career. I mean,
10:33he does have an insane He averages over
10:356 and 1/2 yards per carry for the course
10:37of his career, which is insane. He was
10:39targeted 12 times last season on a
10:41really low number of snaps. But what I
10:44would like to point out to you guys is
10:46the new offensive coordinator for the
10:47Los Angeles Chargers, which is one Mr.
10:50Mike McDaniel. What is Mike McDaniel
10:52most famous for? I mean, I would assume
10:55that you guys remember this.
10:57I I would assume that you guys remember
10:59Raheem Mostert 18 touchdowns, Devon
11:01Achane 997 scrimmage yards and 11
11:04touchdowns in only 11 games because he
11:07started out the year as a healthy
11:08scratch and also got banged up over that
11:10time frame. The backfield situation for
11:13the Chargers is going to be they are
11:15going to be one of the lowest, not
11:17highest, lowest pass rate over
11:19expectation teams in the NFL. We know
11:22that the whole McShanny tree, right?
11:24Shanahan, McVay, McDaniel, all these
11:27guys, you know, basically the entire
11:282014 Washington Commanders coaching
11:30staff, these guys love to run the ball.
11:33I think there's room on the bone
11:36for Antonio Gibson to finish as a
11:37top-five fantasy football running back
11:39and for Keeton Mitchell to also finish
11:41as a top-25 fantasy football running
11:43back. That is not a very popular
11:44opinion. A lot of my database friends, I
11:46mean, Mason doesn't think so. Rich Rebar
11:48doesn't think so. There are a lot of
11:50guys who don't agree with me.
11:53But, I do know that Keeton Mitchell is
11:55basically the most efficient runner in
11:57the NFL. I know that he's explosive. I
11:59know that he can get there on limited
12:01touches. And I think the fact that he is
12:03cheaper than guys that we know are not
12:05going to impact fantasy football. Guess
12:07what? You're never starting Tyler
12:08Allgeier. You're never starting Woody
12:10Marks. You're never starting Zonovan
12:11Knight. You're never starting Chris
12:13Rodriguez. You know, unless there is a
12:15significant change in their
12:16circumstances. But, one of the things
12:18that could happen with Keeton Mitchell
12:20is we could just get to a stage where
12:22basically it becomes clear that the
12:24Chargers run game is so effective and so
12:27efficient
12:28that Keeton Mitchell is like the third
12:30or fourth highest projected Charger in a
12:31given week. I think it's obviously it's
12:34pretty thin, but Keeton Mitchell is one
12:35of my favorite adds in redraft leagues
12:38right now. You can get him in the 13th,
12:3914th, 15th round. I mean, in your home
12:41league, he might not even have an ADP.
12:43You could go log on ESPN and he might
12:45not even be drafted. And I think that he
12:48is the exact type of asymmetric risk
12:50that I want to be making on a ton of my
12:52fantasy football team. So, those are the
12:54five running backs that I am betting my
12:56entire season on. Kenneth Walker, very,
12:59very important. Buy Shell Toure, Jaylen
13:01Warren, Jerick McKinnon, Merritt, and
13:04Keeton Mitchell. The five running backs
13:05that I'm betting my fantasy football
