0:00Football Show. My name is Danny Heifetz today, I'm joined by Danny Kelly and Craig Horlbeck, and today we are going over
0:06a bunch of somewhat NFL news, and then also the NBA, and also the World Cup.
0:11LeBron James is a warrior! Whoa! Just kidding, we don't know that.
0:14No. But that could happen while we're on the pod.
0:17We're going to talk some football stuff, but I would earnestly say that if I could pick a day where the NFL
0:24is the least relevant of the 365 days in a year, I think it would probably be today, Tuesday, June 30th, when
0:30there's World Cup, Wimbledon, and NBA free agency, and LeBron James is picking a new team while everyone in the NFL is just posting thirst traps from vacations.
0:38What about the Travis Kelsey wedding? You've been checking those out?
0:41The upcoming nuptials. How many IG accounts have you been on?
0:44Who are you talking about specifically? Mine, my main.
0:47Sean McVay's, let me tell you something. Oh my.
0:49I actually do a Leepa's honeymoon because it overlapped with mine.
0:53I've been following that one very closely, but then Sean McVay's.
0:56I saw that. Sean McVay has like an eight pack.
0:59He does. He's kind of all ass. I just said that and you weren't listening, but I incepted you.
1:04No, I was talking over you at the time.
1:07That makes sense. I was talking about Taylor Swift's wedding.
1:09Aren't you excited about this? So, all right. You know what?
1:13Fuck it. Let's just do this first. Okay, Craig.
1:15Yeah. So there's been these leaks-ish that it's at Madison Square Garden.
1:19I think it's a decoy leak. Do you think that Taylor Swift...
1:22I think there's no way they're getting married at Madison Square Garden.
1:25They were like, oh, there's a permit and then some like players have...
1:29Chiefs players have hotel rooms near there. I don't think she's getting married at Madison Square Garden.
1:34I think it's a total head fake. I think she is getting married there.
1:38Really? Yeah, I think so. I think I'm convinced now.
1:41There was like a report that they're like building sets in there.
1:44I wouldn't be surprised if she sells this thing to a streamer and it's like a full-on production.
1:50This could be on Disney Plus in a month.
1:52So yeah, at this point, initially I thought the MSG thing was ridiculous and fake.
1:56And now I think it's real because the whole thing was like they wanted it to be private, right?
2:02Like if you're in Rhode Island, people... Drones can capture you on camera.
2:06There's like nowhere to hide. But if you do it in obviously like an arena, you can get away with it.
2:12When everybody's like, yeah, but that's going to be pretty ugly.
2:15I feel like... Taylor Swift will put $50 million into it and make it look like a princess palace or whatever the
2:21fuck she wants it to look like. Craig, isn't there a gray area between those two?
2:26Like there's a lot of buildings that you could keep drones out of.
2:29Well, I think the idea... I think the idea was like, it's not just that.
2:34It's like getting there, who's there, walking in. It would be very hard to coordinate all of that.
2:39But an arena is built to allow people to arrive privately.
2:42Right, right. There's also... I don't know why it's that big of a deal to see like who's at their wedding, but...
2:48Like why is it a big deal? Patrick Mahomes is photographed walking into a Rhode Island house.
2:53Because it's a royal wedding. This is the closest America will come to a royal wedding.
2:58Didn't people get to watch the royal wedding? Yes, it was on television.
3:02Of course they got to watch the royal wedding.
3:04So that's my point. I'm like, why is it a big deal then?
3:08Shouldn't we get to see it? Why does she not want people to see it if it's the royal wedding?
3:14Because it's up to her. It's her content. I don't know.
3:17Maybe she doesn't want to be a royal wedding, but people would care.
3:21You just called it the royal wedding. You're like, it's the royal wedding.
3:24I'm like, well, it's not because she doesn't want people to see it.
3:28I know. Come on. You know what I'm saying.
3:31I'm saying that's the level of interest, but she doesn't have to participate in it if she doesn't want to.
3:36But it's the closest people come to that level of interest.
3:39The difference is, I think, is if you do it outdoors somewhere.
3:43I can't believe we're talking about this. If you do it outdoors somewhere.
3:47How should I get on wires? I can't believe we don't have a wire.
3:51I'm sorry I brought it up, Ray. She can't control it.
3:54She can't own it. You know what I mean?
3:56But if she does it in an arena, she can own it and do what she wants with it.
4:02And that's why. Is Liz home? Can she come on and talk about this right now?
4:06No. She's not home. I like how Heifetz thinks this is like Operation Mincemeat.
4:10To invade some other place and have their wedding.
4:13Look, first of all, that's not crazy. It's all over.
4:16First of all, there are a lot of rumors that the permits they've had, that the invitations, there's a rumor that they're watermarked.
4:23So if anyone puts them on Instagram, that they'll know who it is.
4:26There's also a rumor that I don't think is true, but that Jack and I believe for a full day that all
4:33of the high premium tier calla lilies on the East Coast have been purchased by an unknown buyer.
4:38And we were. DK, DK, can we do an over-under?
4:41How much money do you think Taylor Swift has spent, and I guess Travis Kelsey, have spent on this wedding?
4:46Let's set the line at. The over-under? I'm going to set the line.
4:50You tell me over-under. Heifetz, help me here. What do you think is a reasonable number?
4:55$25 million? My thought was $25 million. Well, I was going to say $20 million.
4:59I thought I was going to be too high.
5:02If I learn something about weddings, you just double it, right?
5:05So $40 million? That's crazy. We were all so close.
5:08I think $40 million because it's like $20 seems reasonable.
5:10Here's the question. What do you pay for Madison Square Garden?
5:14Right now. Yeah, you got to buy out all the booze in the place.
5:18You know? It's like they could make so much money at a concert or something.
5:22Or does she know how much? Or maybe Disney's going to buy this for $10 million.
5:26She can cut the price. Well, you know, I do have a theory.
5:30Imagine trying to make money on your wedding. Fuck, that's actually crazy.
5:34We got to turn a profit on this thing.
5:36Dude, she's going to make money. That's crazy. When people go to a movie theater, if this is exclusively in movie theaters,
5:43how much money could they make for people to go watch the wedding?
5:46A billion dollars. Like it's Monday Night Football. A billion.
5:49You would counter-program the World Cup. And like you could just, I think you could make a billion dollars.
5:55You know why? What are you talking about? They could not make a billion dollars.
5:59Well, you don't know. In the 70s. How long until we've lost people?
6:03In this. Oh. We got to hurry up. In the 70s, the boxing matches would be watched in movie theaters, which I still think they should bring back.
6:11Like UFC fights, boxing. Well, not UFC, but they would have all these things.
6:15It was like the only way to watch is you have to go to a movie theater.
6:20Why aren't they doing it at the White House?
6:22They still got that. Shit's all up there still.
6:25So they can sell Trump coins. They didn't take it down yet.
6:28How else are you going to peddle crypto? But I.
6:31Sell Trump coins. The commemorative end. This is all the reflecting pool.
6:34This is why they're trying to repaint it. Well, I'll have you know the algae.
6:39That's because of domestic terrorists, DK. That's the only reason.
6:42Definitely not because they turned off the algae bubblers for the UFC.
6:45I'm happy to say I have not investigated that entire story.
6:48You haven't invested any of your brain power. It's kind of happening next to me and I try not to acknowledge it.
6:55Is it because of the algae bubblers that were removed for the photo op of the UFC weigh-ins on Friday night?
7:01Definitely not. Did you watch the UFC event? That got a huge rating number.
7:05Tons of people watched it. I was in Italy.
7:07He was on his honeymoon. You were watching the Knicks.
7:10Flipping over to UFC. He had no bandwidth left, Craig.
7:13I went halfway around the world. Anyway. Did you watch it?
7:16Hell no. My official prediction, by the way, with Swift is that it's in MSG.
7:20And I think there's a 20% chance that she sells it and people can watch this.
7:25So here is my last Taylor Swift thing. I will see what happens at the wedding.
7:30I mean, this is the biggest football story. Come on.
7:32The other. I know. It's a slow. It's the slow news day here.
7:36No offense to Ryan. July 4th is like the only time the NFL doesn't beat every other sport.
7:41I will say this. It was World Cup. The last thing I'll just say about Taylor Swift, though, because I'm sure I'm right about this one.
7:49She's obviously like probably the most intentional artist there's ever been about like numbers and leaving clues behind for people.
7:55She did 149 eras tours. She's going to sell the 150th and final version of the Eretour performance for a kajillion dollars to a streamer for something.
8:02I thought it was going to be the Super Bowl halftime show, but like she will.
8:07The 150th is being saved for something. She will do one more.
8:10For her wedding. It's going to be a concert.
8:13Yeah. She'll do something. Did she perform at her own wedding?
8:16That's the question I have for you before we move on.
8:19Do you think she sings at her own wedding?
8:22God, good question. I feel like historically you don't do that, but again, if this is a commercial product, I think anything's on the table.
8:29The Kelsey's are going to do a pregame pod or a pre-wedding, prenuptials pod.
8:33I'm not a singer, but I am a podcast host, and I did actually want to grab the mic at my own
8:39wedding, and I did say a few words at my own wedding, so I'm like, I don't know, maybe she'll want to sing.
8:46I just feel like you don't put your wedding inside of a fucking performance venue unless you plan to have a performance, but maybe I'm wrong.
8:53I don't know. We'll see. Okay. Let's get to some other NFL stuff, and then I want to hit.
8:59Other. I want to talk about LeBron, and then I want to talk about the World Cup, and then I want to
9:05talk about there's a few great emails. And just a reminder to all the members of The Seven, thank you to all
9:11seven women who listen to the show. Oh, hell.
9:14Starting next week, and also I lied to everyone, we're going to do one show this week, and then we will start
9:20going two shows a week after the 4th of July.
9:23But we're going to go two shows a week starting next week, and we're going to start unveiling the hotness rankings.
9:29So they're coming, and we're going to have the hottest quarterback countdown.
9:33You better be ready. So lock in for after the 4th of July.
9:36I should just say we're doing our research. We're collecting photos.
9:40We're building our own rankings. Craig has a whole database.
9:42I have an archive that I've built of what I believe are the hottest quarterbacks in the NFL and photos that flatter them.
9:49Okay. So a few pieces of news. Brandon Ayuk, the embattled 49ers receiver who keeps going on Instagram Live to talk about
9:55how much he hates the 49ers and wants to play specifically for Washington, says his ex-agent is the reason for the rift with the 49ers, DK.
10:03What a shocking revelation that this has nothing to do with Brandon Ayuk.
10:06Isn't that wild? Yeah. This kind of destroys your take that the agents actually like what he's doing online and with all
10:13these different videos and things that he's doing. It doesn't feel like it's a plan at this point.
10:18I think that ship has sailed. I don't think it ever felt like that.
10:22You don't think it's a very lucid, thought-out plan from Brandon Ayuk?
10:25Yeah. Now he's basically, he said- I think the agent was like, take the money out of the backpack, throw it on the ground.
10:32Totally. He's directing. And walk out of the closet.
10:35Yeah. It was a very clean closet. He's like Austin Powers behind the camera.
10:39No, no. Yes. Yes. $50 bills. $50 bills. $50 bills.
10:42I have to say. Not $100. It was very easy to pick them back up.
10:46There was nothing else in that closet. It was very easy to just pick them back up.
10:51Anyway. So he says, he said on this video that he fired his agent and then pro football talk, God bless him,
10:57looked it up and they, he actually hadn't fired him officially and they checked into it.
11:02And now he's fired though. I think that they had, he basically, Ayuk said, this guy's not Ryan Williams.
11:07His agent was not, has not been speaking for him since November.
11:11That kind of gives you the idea of how the relationship is going with the 49ers.
11:15I think that he's basically just ghosted them, but he hasn't talked to the 49ers in forever.
11:20This is his way of reaching out to them.
11:23The other thing I thought was interesting from the pro football talk coverage of the Ayuk saga this week, basically they said,
11:29and I think it's just Florio, Ayuk must petition because he's on the reserve left squad list.
11:34He has to actually petition the NFL to be reinstated before anything can happen.
11:38Yeah. Yes. I mean, I didn't know you could be put on a reserve left squad list during this season.
11:44Like this is, I don't know how many players this has happened to since we've been covering the NFL professionally.
11:49And now, and then he kind of went, Ayuk kind of went after the NFL PA on an Instagram post for, uh, I'm not really sure what.
11:57So this is, this is not going well. I think it's, we've, we've reached an inflection point where it's now quite a
12:04bit less likely he's ever going to play in the NFL.
12:07I feel like I, the, it is the Eric Andre shooting Hannibal Buress meme where he's just like, how could my agent do this?
12:14Right. Just as I Instagram live, fuck John Lynch every single day.
12:17I can't believe my agent ruined my relationship with this team.
12:20Yeah. I think I would call him nuts, except I'm actually just worried he's having a crisis of some kind.
12:26I don't know what's wrong with this man. We didn't even mention.
12:29I kind of don't think he's, he's like in crisis.
12:32I, I really kind of feel like he just thinks he's being a clever negotiator and he's not.
12:37Do you ever hear that story of Kurt Schilling?
12:40I think he was negotiating with the Red Sox and he, uh, was negotiating directly with the GM or something.
12:46I think it was Kurt Schilling. And, uh, he was going into his office and like, I'm calling my lawyer.
12:51And he would go for like an hour at a time.
12:55And then he told him 10 years later, they didn't have a lawyer who's reading how to negotiate for dummies.
13:00Like literally out of one of them yellow books.
13:03The art of the deal. Yeah. It's really the art of the deal, the fucking other room.
13:08But that's basically Brandon. I, you Claude is just telling him to.
13:11Claude law. Yeah. The Bob law. Uh, did we even mention on the last show that Brandon, I, you among other things
13:18in December, uh, Instagram lived himself going like a hundred miles an hour past the 49ers stadium on a highway.
13:23Yep. That was on game day, right? It was on game day.
13:27Yeah. Was it on game day? Wasn't it on during a game?
13:30I thought it was before the game. Yeah. I don't know.
13:33I don't know if you could get a hundred miles an hour in that highway during game day.
13:38Oh, he could. That's how fast he is. A lot of traffic.
13:42But I, well, it's funny because you had to head people.
13:45The news tried to hedge a little because it's like, well, maybe it was kilometers.
13:49I'm like, there's no fucking ways cars using kilometers.
13:52Kilometers. It's a, he was going 140. He imported a Volvo.
13:55Yeah. And then the police like issued a warrant for him.
13:58Cause they're like, that's, you know, more than double.
14:01Anyway, wild guy. Okay. Good luck with that, Brandon.
14:03Uh, all right. The other thing here, this is just what happens through the summer.
14:08Uh, less fun news. Lions have released cornerback to Ryan Arnold shortly after his bond was set at $1 million.
14:13So he was the first round pick for the lions in 2024.
14:17He's the one. Remember he walked out on the stage in Detroit.
14:20Like he was the Detroit pick at the end.
14:23It was actually like a really cool moment. He like walked out to the whole crowd.
14:28He was there. And then Ryan Arnold was arrested last week on felony charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.
14:33His bond was set at $1 million. And then the lions released him shortly afterward.
14:37So Arnold, he's not allowed to talk to the six code defendants.
14:41He must surrender his passport within 48 hours. Cause the prosecutor said he was a flight risk and he is confined to
14:47his residence in Tallahassee, Florida, except when he would be playing training and traveling with the lions or an NFL team, making court related appearances or legal appointments.
14:55Uh, I don't know if he's ever going to play in the NFL ever again.
14:59And there is a chance, a chance if he's convicted that he is faces life in prison.
15:04Uh, this is just a bizarre, crazy story. Yeah.
15:07I also saw a report today that said because he was released.
15:10Now the court is asking that he have a GPS monitor on him because basically they were like, you can go into work and that's it.
15:18Um, so yeah, this is not good, obviously. And I think, you know, like you said, if it's his career might be
15:24over, he's certainly not going to be claimed. He's going on waivers now.
15:28Um, and certainly not going to be claimed until the legal issue is kind of worked out or whatever.
15:33So this is, this is really brutal. I don't have anything like smart or wise to say.
15:38It's just like, he's 23 years old and it's one of the first times I feel like you're like, I'm 30, Craig, you're 31, right?
15:45I'm 31. Like, it's one of the first times where I'm like, wow, he's like a kid who did a very, very stupid thing.
15:52And you're like, your life just like goes poof.
15:55And I just, it's like wild to, I mean, he's making, I, I, I, I forget.
15:59Like, I think it's like the amount of, it was like a hundred thousand dollars in cash.
16:04I think $80,000 a jewel is $250,000 overall of stuff that was stolen.
16:08And it's like 15% of what he makes in a year.
16:11And I don't know what a, what a wild decision.
16:14So it's just crazy that I don't really have a smart pivot to like how this affects the Detroit lions, but I
16:20do want to talk about that for two seconds.
16:23Maybe that's a bad taste, but this is like quite a big deal for the lions because the NFC North is the
16:29most competitive division in the entire league. It's the, I mean, the lions bears, Packers, Vikings.
16:34I mean, good luck picking the order of how those teams are going to finish this year.
16:39The lions have the easiest schedule in the NFL.
16:41The lions should win the division, but cornerback is the weakest part of the team.
16:46They have, so Terrian Arnold was a first round pick that was cut.
16:49They also, that same year drafted Ennis Raikstra as a cornerback in the second round.
16:54He has played, he has missed the last 27 lions games.
16:57And it's Raikstra has with hamstring and shoulder issues.
16:59They signed DJ Reed and free agency is good.
17:02Rocky sin is another cornerback for them. He's 30 and has been on five teams in five years already over 30.
17:08That's why. Yeah, I know. It doesn't make you feel old.
17:11I remember his scouting report. I'm like he, but he's been on five teams in five years.
17:16Roger McGreary. And free agency got a minimum deal, which I think speaks to what the league thinks.
17:21They got a million dollars in a year. And last year.
17:24Yeah, exactly. So, I mean, quarterbacks, the weakest spot in the team, they have great safeties.
17:29And Brian branch, who's really, I guess a nickel guy and Kirby Joseph, but like you're playing, you're going against like Justin
17:35Jefferson and Ben Johnson and the bears. And I'm like, this is not a team that wants to lose cornerback depth.
17:41So I don't know. It's the, it's like this giant hole in the lions team.
17:46So few teams have good corner depth. It's kind of crazy.
17:49Cornerbacks and pass rushers, man. You can't run out.
17:51Okay. This is really somber, but I don't have anything smart to say about this either.
17:56But like, I mean, Chris Johnson, who the running back for the Titans, who has the most yards from scrimmage in a
18:02single season ever had this segment with good morning America for those didn't see it.
18:06He has ALS at 40 years old. He was diagnosed at 39.
18:10I believe he has four children and it's heartbreaking.
18:12I don't know. Did you guys watch it? Like really rattled me.
18:16It was the most rattling thing I've seen in a minute.
18:19Like football wise. I didn't actually watch the interview.
18:22It's just hearing about it is, is rattling stuff.
18:24Yeah. To be honest, everybody I spoke to who had watched it said it was so depressing.
18:29I didn't watch it. It sounded so horrible. I, I, I kind of, maybe that's cowardly of me, but I know I don't blame it.
18:36I mean, it's tough. It's like one of those, it's tough.
18:39It's, it's he's talking through one of those machines, you know, and they had his voice do it because he was able to record stuff before.
18:47But yeah, the one point I want to make about it just because they asked him, what is one thing you want
18:53people to know about your issue and your, your about ALS.
18:56And his point was his mind is exactly the same.
18:59And he says that people try to talk to him.
19:02Like his mind is diminished. And he's like, it's, it's your mind.
19:06And just your body no longer cooperates, but he's completely the same person in there.
19:10Like there's no mental diminishment whatsoever. And he just felt like a lot of people don't understand that.
19:15And he wanted people to know that. But anyway, yeah, it's just, it was very harrowing and needless to say, there is
19:21a connection between the NFL and ALS. You're never able to point to like one specific case and say that's because of that.
19:28But the NFL has acknowledged in settlements that like ALS is a connection to football.
19:32So it was just a horrible thing for him.
19:35I mean, it's crazy to have a guy who's on the cover of Madden, you know, four years old.
19:40It's really sad. Yeah. All right. No good segue from that.
19:43Brennan Soresby, the nuclear radioactive hot potato. The other off-season saga.
19:47Yeah. Rejected. Along with Brennan Ayuk. Really? Yeah. There are two people who decided that the NFLPA were shocking, not the people to blame for their situations.
19:54Brennan Soresby kicked out begrudgingly by the Big 12 and then rejected by the NFL.
19:59Was rejected by Canadian football this week? Why do they say that he can't play?
20:03Is it just gambling also? He just said they don't want to have to deal with that.
20:08It was against the integrity of their sport. Yeah.
20:10No one's in position to risk the integrity of the sport.
20:14Speaking of which, I mean, the NBA had another thing.
20:16I mean, Malik Beasley was indicted. Ed Davis, who was a basketball player, were indicted.
20:21This is, it's, no one's in a position to have people question whether their games are being fixed.
20:26So, you know, it's not helpful to, I mean, Brennan Soresby's not going to change the CFL for the positive.
20:32So, the only people that seems to want him is the owner of the Dallas Renegades and the UFL.
20:37Seem very enthusiastic about that. Kind of awesome. They're like, fuck it.
20:41You, come here. This guy's like Paul Crew without any of the cool lore.
20:45People are going to watch, though, you know, if he does play.
20:48Will they? He's not even good. I don't know.
20:51Draft hardcore people will watch it. I will say today, Schefter reported that the NFL and the NFLPA came to an agreement or whatever.
20:57I can't remember what the word they used was out of litigation, an agreement out of litigation and decided that he will
21:04now be eligible for the 2027 draft and he will not face any further punishment because of this gambling thing.
21:09And so, he is draft eligible for 2027. He's just going to work on his game this offseason, obviously get treatment for
21:16the gambling addiction problem that he's admitted to and openly talked about.
21:19So, yeah. That is the kind of conclusion of the battle between him and the NFLPA because his lawyer said they were going to sue the NFLPA.
21:27And it went against the collective bargaining agreement and all this stuff.
21:30So, it's just not. So, they settled. Probably not the wise decision to sue the company you want to work for next year.
21:37Also, just like Joe Pesci leaves his house with a baseball bat and suddenly he's like, I'm going to drop all these lawsuits.
21:44You know what I mean? It's the. But no, I.
21:46For a thousand reasons. I look at the end of the day, I think everyone understands when you literally.
21:52The fact that he's been against his own goddamn team and using other people to make his bets.
21:57It's like you have relinquished the right to play professional sports, like period.
22:01And then, yeah. I mean, again, this will just be a thing.
22:04I really do now think of it like, especially with this NBA thing and Malik Beasley, it's every season for every league
22:11is now just a giant parlay that 100% of players are not throwing anything.
22:15I know. It's like crossing your fingers every league, every single day.
22:18It's like, no, no gambling, no gambling. The Malik Beasley indictment as well is just, you guys ever watch The Wire?
22:24There's an incredible line from Stringer Bell where he's like, are you taking notes?
22:28On a criminal fucking conspiracy? And he takes the thing and rips it up.
22:32And I'm like, reading all these texts from Malik Beasley.
22:35Malik, Ed Davis texted who is bizarre. It's another NBA player who owed another NBA player money and they're forcing each other to like manipulate rebounds over unders.
22:43And he literally said, only way you can beat Vegas is sports betting.
22:47We can make some good money. Just texted that.
22:49There are some clips out there of Malik Beasley doing some things on the court that look very suspicious.
22:55I was watching that, Craig. He's like, he's face guarding a guy away from the ball instead of blocking out.
23:01There's one where like the spread was eight and a half and they were like down nine and there's like four seconds left.
23:07And he like sprints end to end to get a layup in so that they cover.
23:12It's bad. But yeah. Him like flying for rebounds.
23:14Yeah. It's it's. Yeah. All right. The Buffalo Bills are not honoring OJ Simpson in their new stadium.
23:19We've made an organized quote from the team president of business operations.
23:23We've made an organizational decision that OJ Simpson is not a fit to display inside our new stadium and family circle.
23:29End quote. DK, why do you think that is?
23:31Well, uh, yeah, I don't know. I debated zagging here, but I decided.
23:35I was like, why is it? He was, he was found not guilty.
23:39He was not. Yeah. What are you saying? Quarter loss?
23:42Not good. Because he wrote the book. If I did it, that they're not.
23:46Which, which I, I still maintain that if I pitched that idea in like a TV show, they'd be like, that's ridiculous.
23:52No one would ever do that. It sounds like an arrested development.
23:56He can't be that much of like an arrogant ass.
23:58It does sound like an arrested development. But yeah, I'm like, why?
24:02He was found not guilty. Why shouldn't you honor him as a player only?
24:06But I decided not to go with that take.
24:09Okay. I like how you did that. You presented the take, but you didn't actually give the take.
24:14I also, I don't, I don't, I don't believe they should have done that.
24:18Right. Anyone can take the reservation. Also importantly, Bill's stadium.
24:21It's the mark of an educated man to be able to consider an idea without believing it.
24:25That's true. Just, yeah. Cannibalism. Just asking questions here.
24:28Also importantly, since we've been very wrong on this several times on the show, Bill's stadium, not a dome.
24:33I got this right. And you two kept getting it wrong so much that then I also believed it was a dome.
24:40I don't know about that. And then we all three of us repeated it was a dome for months and months.
24:46I am going to be honest. I went along with it because I didn't know that it wasn't a dome.
24:52I still don't know. It's not a dome. It's not.
24:54It's canopied over the seats. You told me it was a dome and so I believed you.
24:59It's not. One of us said it confidently one time, but not me because I was shocked.
25:04You guys told me it and I was surprised because I didn't know.
25:08I remember feeling like I didn't know that. Makes you wonder how many things in life you've been told one time and
25:14then you just like take that as gospel and go with it for the rest of my life.
25:19Sure. Great reminder, DK. Email us in your blind spots.
25:22RingerFantasyFootball at gmail.com. Heifetz, didn't you have like a really good one of those where it was like someone told you this
25:29a really long time ago and then you figured this out in grade school or something that you'd been.
25:34Wait. Yeah. There's a bunch. Oh, yeah. You've been using.
25:37I remember that. Run a train the wrong way.
25:39Oh, yeah. That was bad. I just thought ran train meant get run over by a train because it's like bad and the context clues don't always.
25:47Sure. I always pictured like, you know, in like those cartoons, like, you know, a guy would tie a woman to a train tracks and then you die.
25:55And I'm like, oh, yeah, that would be bad.
25:58So I told him. I think I told a professor once asked me how the test went.
26:03I was like, test ran train on me. And the professor is like, you're being a little.
26:08That's a little too familiar. I would say that like kids probably still might say that.
26:12Like, that's not that. That's kind of like a funny way to say, like, that was a super hard test.
26:18But you're not technically wrong by saying that. No.
26:20Contextually, you're still kind of right. You're still kind of right.
26:24That's the problem. So many questions I got wrong.
26:26Like, oh, that fucking test ran a train on me.
26:29Like, that's actually totally fine. Well, sure. That test fucked me.
26:32But don't say it to the teacher. I got fucked by the test.
26:36The best. My favorite version ever of this was the guy who was thrown to the wolves and had like the junior
26:42level employee at a hospital who had to tell.
26:45Remember this? The entire conference. Not conference room. Like an auditorium of the local.
26:49Not just one hospital, but all the local hospital workers that they were getting a pension cut or a payment cutters or
26:55a freeze and like telling like a thousand hospital workers that they're getting.
26:59And there was like a revolt. And the CEO came up and was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
27:04Why doesn't everyone just take a 30,000 foot view here?
27:07And then the guy, the 23-year-old who was speaking, everyone walked over to the window and was like, you're right, sir.
27:13That is a great view. And then turned around and everyone was staring at him.
27:17That just fills me with pain. Have I told you guys that my dad, I think it was like the first time,
27:24it was when he was like in his 20s.
27:26The first time he found out like in and out at a secret menu.
27:30I don't think he knew and his friends like convinced him or he might've even just got it confused himself where he
27:37thought animal style in and out, which is like the secret way to get your burger done with like a special sauce and they grill it differently.
27:44He thought animal style was called doggy style. Oh no.
27:47And so he went up and ordered a cheeseburger doggy style to like probably some like 18 year old kid.
27:53That's incredible. That's great. I fucked with, I mean, I didn't get it in a weird way.
27:58Yeah. They ran a train on the burger. Literally special sauce.
28:01All right. Oh, keep going. Keep going, Craig. No, that's enough.
28:04I convinced my friend, shout out to my friend JB.
28:07We once convinced them that Warren Buffett was worth so much money because he got like a percentage of every buffet sale
28:13in the world and he didn't learn that that was wrong until like a business lecture in college.
28:18That's the one I was thinking. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
28:21That was bad. Okay. Last thing of it. Well, a couple of NFL things.
28:25Anyway, not a dome. Not a dome for the bills.
28:28It's not a dome. Well, I don't know. Actually, I'm retractable.
28:31I read right here. It's not a dome. It's not a dome.
28:34Retractable canopy. Let me just get this right for once in my life.
28:38We should actually look this up. What do you think?
28:41It's a. It's going to be. Open air. Some people are mad that it's not a dome because we're like, well, the football.
28:48That feels like a legal loophole. It feels like a loophole.
28:51No, no. They have a window. Technically has like air blowing through it.
28:55Kai watching the TCU lose 63 to nothing to Georgia while getting rained on at an indoor stadium is like the funniest thing.
29:01Getting rained on sideways. He's like sitting by the hole in an indoor stadium with a rain.
29:06And his team got like absolutely blown out. Worst college football player possible.
29:10Georgia actually ran a train on TV. That was that was an appropriate use of the term.
29:15But some people in Buffalo are mad. So there's like it's going to be heated field and seat stuff.
29:20They can melt snow easier. You know, they have to have fans come and like help them shovel.
29:25Some people are mad, though, because the governor in New York is like from the Buffalo area.
29:30So they got a lot of taxpayer money for it.
29:33And a lot of people are actually mad. It's not a dome because it's Buffalo and you can't have a concert in January if there's snow.
29:40So some people actually wish that since taxpayers paid for it, that it was a dome so you could use it, you
29:47know, more than like five or six months a year.
29:50But it's a fair point. It will. I will say it says it will feature an open air design with a massive
29:56steel canopy that covers roughly 60 to 65 percent of the seats, which is kind of similar to like Lumenfield and Seattle,
30:02where the vast majority kind of the edges are covered, but the field itself is exposed.
30:07Right. They're trying to definitely like have their cake and eat it, too, where it's like, no, no, there's still snow.
30:13It's still Buffalo. But then it's also modern and they can melt the snow and you can do a little bit more with it.
30:20This episode is brought to you by Starbucks. That is fire.
30:23Whoa, that's good. This might be the drink of the summer.
30:26OK, I like this one, too. I'm rocking with it.
30:29OK. Try it for yourself. Starbucks refreshers concentrates are coming home.
30:32Find them in the coffee aisle and make it yours.
30:35Last thing here. This is not like that timely, but we just somehow haven't talked about it yet.
30:40So Alec Pierce, the receiver for the Colts, who got a huge deal in free agency for like almost 30 million dollars a year.
30:47It's the first free agents assigned kind of like a gentleman's overpay.
30:50He had an ankle surgery and now it's like not really clear when he's returning.
30:55And it sounds like it's been an issue for a while.
30:58He was going to have to get it done at some point.
31:01He was playing through it. It was going to be this offseason or next offseason and the Colts knew about it.
31:07But I don't think anyone or at least the Colts didn't quite know that how bad it was.
31:13And I guess Alec Pierce tried platen enrichment plasma in January to fix it.
31:17And I feel like a little bit that there was an impression that the Colts thought that that had worked and it didn't.
31:23And so he got surgery like after he signed this 30 million dollar a year deal, which you don't hear about a lot.
31:30Don't love to see that. Especially when it's the team that signed him that he came from, because those teams always have
31:36the most medical information because he's been there his whole career.
31:39So this was surprising because they gave him 30 million a year, shipped Michael Pittman to Pittsburgh.
31:44And then suddenly it's like Alec Pierce may or may not be ready for week one, which is just a surprising thing
31:50for someone who just got a giant contract. Yeah.
31:53He had surgery in March after he signed the deal.
31:56And Pierce said himself that the recovery is four to six months, which puts it like in the six months is like
32:02an ACL late July to September range, which is pretty easy.
32:05I mean, it's not great. Will significantly affect the way that he is.
32:09He is viewed from a fantasy perspective. Certainly. Especially because he's a top end speed guy.
32:14Not that there's anybody that's immune from ankle injuries, but like he is a athleticism speed acceleration player.
32:19So I mean, he's already going to go for a discount or like, I guess I don't even know if it is
32:25a discount because I think people vary widely on like what they think of Alec Pierce and if they think he deserved
32:31that money and should be like a de facto number one in an offense.
32:35But it's never had more than 47 catches in the season.
32:39Last football item here. I want to just note that so obviously the World Cup is in America.
32:44They're playing all over and that for the Japan versus Sweden game.
32:47Did you watch that amazing day of soccer amazing tournament so far, but that Jerry World did in fact use curtains to
32:54block the sun for Japan versus Sweden. Wanted to know that Jerry World is Dallas Stadium.
32:58Heifetz. Oh, yeah, you can. Dallas. You're right. Stadium.
33:01It is. Yeah. No, it's not AT&T Stadium at all.
33:04How dare you? Yeah, I love that. Have you been watching the games?
33:07There's been some incredible games in the world round already.
33:10The World Cup. I thought what day is today?
33:13Tuesday. Monday was one of the best days of soccer I've ever watched.
33:16I'm not going to pretend to be the biggest soccer fan in the world, but I obviously love the World Cup.
33:22Right. That was crazy. They Brazil scoring in the 96th minute and then you two games go to penalty kicks.
33:28That was crazy. It was the world. The knockout round has been unbelievable.
33:32What do you what's your take on the penalty kick way of finishing games?
33:36Like overall, do you like like do you think it's a good way to end World Cup games?
33:41Number one. And I guess number two is in my second question would just be like, is it awesome?
33:47And I think the answer is yes, but also maybe that's not how they should these games should end.
33:52It's so cool as a parachuting in as a fan.
33:55It's so cool to watch them do it. It is.
33:58Yeah. Divorced from the game. It's not the same game.
34:01I there. It's not the same thing. It's the Roger Bennett at Men in Blazers was like, it's like doing synchronized swimming for two hours.
34:08And then you have like just a race. And it's like just going from a team sport where unison is everything to here's an intensely individual thing.
34:16And your entire country is counting on you, son.
34:18But I will say that the drama, the theater of it, it's like it's again, Roger Bennett, he called it Russian roulette for sports.
34:25That's exactly what you see a person like unwind.
34:28It's unbelievable to me. It would be like if after, if at the end of an NBA game, if the teams were
34:34tied, they just took like their five best three point shooters and then just had to do like a three point competition.
34:40Yes. It feels stupid when you consider it that way.
34:43However, it's a, it's fucking electric in the world.
34:46It's crazy. It's also great for television. The camera that can just sit right behind the guy.
34:51You feel like you're playing fucking FIFA. It's exactly like that.
34:54It's so, it's the view changing from side to behind them.
34:57It makes the drama so much higher. The first penalty kick.
35:00So Morocco Netherlands went to PKs. And then before that Paraguay, Germany did.
35:04And the Paraguay goalkeeper doing the clapping. Yeah. And it was like so quiet.
35:08Intimidation factor. I don't know if they had good money.
35:11There's a guy jumping back and forth. I forget which goalie it was.
35:14Like it's great intimidation factor. It's all mental. It's really, really cool.
35:18I like that. I like that. It's kind of dumb in that like the, the goalie, I mean, is this, is trying
35:24to read the guy kicking, but he's also like kind of guessing.
35:28He's definitely, yeah. And like, I just think there's something inherently funny about like the pinnacle of a sport just comes down
35:34to flipping a coin and be like, I'm going to jump this way.
35:38It's crazy. And then it's so crazy to me.
35:40And sometimes they jump the right way and they still don't get it.
35:44Yeah. It's well that, oh, that goalie that knocked the ball in after he had stopped, it was heartbreaking.
35:49But I, the thing about the PKs it's up, you know, we've joked before that don't tell the boomers this, but LeBron
35:56can't be the goat because if he was at the free throw line with the, the, the world on the line, we'd actually be pretty puckered and Jordan.
36:04I have no doubt. But the new version of why can't NBA players hit free throws is when the guys miss the
36:10goal, I'm just like, I'll never get over it.
36:13Like, like when, when they put it side, like high or they put it left or right of the net and they miss it.
36:20I don't know which is worse. It's like the ultimate ick is like what that, that German guy did where he sailed it like 30 yards too high.
36:28It always blows my mind. Shaked it. My ick is when the guys do the stutter step penalty kick where they like go slow.
36:34And then like at the very last minute, they basically try and get the goalie to dive one way and then they can just like tap it in.
36:42So I think that's so stupid. They shouldn't allow you to do that shit.
36:46Just get up there and kick it. What's the rule there?
36:50Like, can you, you can't fully fake kick. Can you?
36:52I don't think I've ever been more out of my depth than trying to explain anything rules in soccer, but I do believe the rules.
37:00No, you have to keep forward momentum, right? Yes.
37:02Even if it's that like. Fully swing and miss on purpose.
37:05The guy dives and you kick it in. You can't do that.
37:09Yeah. Even if it's like a millimeter an hour, you have to keep moving forward.
37:13You can do your weird crab walk side, right to left and back.
37:17It's a little bit like a pitcher's motion, like the windup where it's everything kind of has to be smooth.
37:23There's some gray area with like pausing, you know, there's certain guys like.
37:26Yeah. I think everyone from morons like us to Thierry Henry and Zlatan on the desk have been saying everyone's kind of
37:33like disgusted with the slow roll kicks. And when you miss them, you kind of get what you deserve.
37:38Like every time you sail one wide. And I've been thinking a lot about this Rafa doc that I was watching about
37:44Rafael Nadal on Netflix, where he said something amazing about how he won the serve.
37:49He hit to Roger Federer to win Wimbledon the first time.
37:52It's like the fifth set, tiebreaker, whatever. And he said on his first serve, he hit a second serve, which is like,
37:58if you don't play tennis, like much slower. Like he hit, it probably was going 70%.
38:03It's like throwing a change up instead of a fastball.
38:06Because you want to make it into the square.
38:08It's just like the sixth. That's what I thought.
38:11But no, he said, because it's a high pressure moment.
38:14And I wanted Roger to have to think about it.
38:17Because sometimes when you really have to perform in a big moment, it's actually easier to not think than it is to think.
38:23And I wanted him to have to think. And it's exactly what happens.
38:27He mishits it. And I thought that was such an interesting insight that Nadal was like, I want Roger to actually have a second.
38:34Oh, no, sorry. It wasn't that. I'm wrong. Sorry.
38:36It was, he had hit 99% of his serves to Roger Federer's backhand.
38:40Then he hit his second serve to his forehand because he wanted Federer to not react.
38:45He wanted him to consciously be like, oh my God, it's the first forehand he gave me all match.
38:50He wanted him to notice it. And I think about that when these guys take the PKs, where you're doing this slow
38:56roll and you are now like thinking about something that you haven't thought about your entire life.
39:01You're just like, it's this like automatic system that you're now like trying to remember how to do it.
39:07And I don't, it's crazy that even though you're a defender, you can't just hit a ball into the net.
39:12The weird thing about it is like, in terms of how hard it is to play soccer normally, like, do you think
39:19the PK itself is that difficult or it's more of kind of a coin flip type proposition?
39:24No, I think it's the pressure. I think it's the pressure of your entire country.
39:28It's like a billion people watching this game. But the actual act itself is extremely easy.
39:33No? I think it's something they've done a million times.
39:35I think it's practice. It's, it's so interesting. It is like shooting free throws or something, but not really.
39:41But it's, it's, it's interesting to me that it is something that is actually quite simple and easy, but it's just, my God, don't fuck it up.
39:49So one of the, I think actually one of the books behind me, there's this book called Daniel Kahneman, Thinking Fast and Slow.
39:55And he's a psychologist who studies these things. And he was, the difference between choking and panicking.
40:00Panicking is when there's something that you're supposed to think about that you don't think about and you just kind of freak out.
40:07Choking is when you start thinking about something that's automatic.
40:10Choking is when you, a second baseman or a pitcher can't throw to first base.
40:14Like that's pan, that's choking. And I think what it is, and I think the, even Lionel Messi is not a great penalty taker.
40:21And I do think it's the mental aspect of, it's not practice as much as you think.
40:26It's kind of an unnatural act, but it is like, I don't, I think the, especially in the World Cup knockout round,
40:32like the, it's hard to overstate how important this is to everyone in your entire country.
40:37And frankly, your entire life has been leading to this.
40:39And if you win, it's like the biggest moment ever.
40:42And I, I, I, you're not able to simulate that pressure.
40:45Like it's just, you start freaking out. It is cool to see, you know, the way that I think you have to kick it kind of hard.
40:53Like, especially even if the guys, even if the guy's guessing, you still have to kick it pretty hard.
40:59Just rip it. Yeah. But it is cool to see how it's, it's, you can see it's palpable, a combination of elation
41:05and relief that they make it when they, when they get it in the goal, you can almost just see like, thank Christ.
41:12They didn't fuck that up. Oh my God. I feel so much pressure on them.
41:16And by the way, speaking of that, there's, I'm going to say this and I'm going to give a caveat because I
41:22don't like fall soccer, international soccer close enough, but it does feel like there's a, at least somewhat reputable, uh, German outlet
41:28saying that some of the German players refused to do the sixth kick because it went past the, the initial five.
41:35So they had to get like six through 10 to keep going up.
41:38There was like sudden death at that point. And apparently this guy, uh, whose name I did not write down.
41:44Hold on. I wouldn't even say the name since I haven't confirmed it, but basically one, one veteran player on Germany, apparently
41:50like balked at the idea of taking it. And then this other guy for, for several of them.
41:55And it wasn't like, no, it was who wants to do it.
41:59And they looked at the four players that should have done it.
42:02And they all kind of like, and they were like, don't pick me.
42:06Nobody wants to put their hand up. And someone was like, fuck it.
42:10I'll do it. And that's the guy who sailed it.
42:13Yeah. He had never taken a penalty at the professional level before.
42:16And he's doing it in the world cup because apparently, and look, I, again, I, maybe this isn't actually what happened, but
42:22apparently these other guys were kind of like, I don't want to be the one to do it.
42:28Uh, which is crazy to me that that's even happening at this level.
42:31It is. It is really one of the most electric ways you can end a game because soccer is so it's a
42:38sport where it's obviously so hard to score that there's kind of like, I don't know what else you would do.
42:44Like, well, I, so I didn't know about this and I, I want to shout out again, men in blazers is just like a great soccer podcast.
42:51And I, they were talking about this cause I was fat.
42:55I really was fascinated. And also today was amazing too with, um, Holland France was amazing today, but they were talking about,
43:01so apparently of all things MLS and this before that the North American soccer league invented a better penalty kick, which is
43:07from 35 yards out instead of 12 or whatever that you just get the ball and you get five seconds to go score on the goalie.
43:15It's like you have to run up and the goalie can run at you or treat it however they want and you get five seconds to shoot.
43:22And so it simulates like a real actual soccer, like a fast break.
43:26Yeah. Like a fast break because the five seconds is like you would get caught and it's, and all the players liked it way more.
43:33And then FIFA came down and didn't like that.
43:36It wasn't uniform, but, but it's actually seems to represent like a soccer scenario way better.
43:40I had never heard of this, but it's like, there's like all these videos on Instagram and YouTube of throwbacks.
43:46And it does seem like way more representative. That makes more sense to me to continue an NBA analogy rather than them just shooting threes.
43:53It would be like, all right, I guess you're going to play like one-on-one.
43:57It's like hockey. It's like hockey is the closest thing.
44:00It's the way they do a shootout. At least it's like a hockey scenario of like a fast break, which is not
44:07a hockey penalty kicks or penalty shots or whatever are so cool too, because they'll have all these awesome moves that they
44:13do right before shooting it into the goal. And it's about puck handling and the talent and dexterity that you have that way.
44:19It's, it's much more just like, then I'm going to blast this into the right side of the goal.
44:25I know it's kind of silly. I do feel bad though.
44:28Whenever we hit, whenever they miss, I feel like, you know, the mother in the stands, all I think about is how
44:34you're never going to live this down. Dude. Yeah.
44:37It's like the lambs. So I'm strong at the end of dodgeball.
44:40Like good luck. I'm sure this won't haunt you for the rest of your life.
44:45Where are you guys, where are you guys trying to put it?
44:48If you step up there on a world cup stage, so I'm just going to, you get dropped in.
44:54If I don't know the goalie can't figure it out.
44:56So I'm just going to hit it as hard as it can.
45:00Just blood sports style. Close your eyes. Does anybody ever just go straight?
45:04Yeah. So my favorite PK ever. So the Italian goalie whose name was a buffon, he would take PKs, which I don't
45:10know how many goalies take PKs, but he would, and he would just like jog up and flick it in slow-mo, like a knuckleball straight at the goalie.
45:18And the goalie would just dive out of the way and he hit it right at them.
45:23Yeah. Which I thought was the sickest thing ever.
45:25I would probably try to rip it to a corner top upper left or upper right corner.
45:30See, I'm keeping that on the ground. I don't trust myself to put it up and not put it high.
45:36I'm just kidding. When a goalie dies, they're low.
45:39You know what I mean? Like if you can hit that upper corner, I'm going right.
45:43Top right. Top right. What's the shallow male strikeout?
45:46Shallow. You chased it. Of course you chased it.
45:48You're drowning. You're drowning. You chased it. Of course you did.
45:52Oh my God. Okay. I went out since the day you were born.
45:55Have you guys been watching the World Cup? It's been cool tournament because the best players have been the best players.
46:01Oh my God, dude. I just got done watching the Sweden France game and Mbappe is, I mean, as, as, as, as,
46:08as a soccer idiot, he's clearly so head and shoulders above everyone else.
46:11He's insane. As a soccer idiot. I thought France for Sweden was breathtaking.
46:15I, I don't know the sport. I barely understand it.
46:18I feel like Ted Lasso asking what offsides is, but watching France, like just dice them up and how easy he makes
46:24everything look like that's what I love about Messi.
46:27Well, their passing is incredible. I think that's the thing about the world cup that I noticed the most is, um, just
46:33how crisp and excellent passers they are. And the, the ball handling, uh, but Mbappe is just explosive man.
46:39It's like watching, I don't know, Jameer Gibbs or something.
46:41He's just like, it moves at a different speed than everybody else.
46:45Have you enjoyed how America has foisted commercial breaks upon the entire world?
46:49Is it our fault? Is it America's fault? I love they were like how hot it will be.
46:54And they're like, I got an idea. I mean, it's probably our fault, but, uh, I, I actually, my milquetoast take on
47:00the, whatever they're called, the hydration breaks. For safety.
47:03They're fine. I don't really. I love it. I, I, yeah, my, my, not a soccer fan, soccer fan take is I love the commercials.
47:10I get to look at my phone in the middle of the game.
47:14We force them to do quarters. I mean, if the game, let's say that that U.S.
47:18game does happen on the 4th of July on Saturday.
47:21It'll be 98 degrees in Thunder. In Philadelphia. So like maybe they do need a hydration break.
47:26It's a hot wave. Well, you know what the irony is?
47:29Everyone's like, how is all the, how are all these teams going to adjust to the heat in America?
47:35And then ironically, Europe had like the biggest heat wave, like the hottest heat wave on record.
47:39Yeah, it's going to be like a hundred in New York, isn't it?
47:43Good Lord. Oh, DC's getting full. Yeah. DC is going to be a hundred all week.
47:48It was 90 today. Switched the game to Buffalo.
47:50Yeah, exactly. The stadium's not done. The other thing that has been fun about the World Cup is the, and there's a
47:57lot of it that's fake and probably psyops or whatever, but it seems like the international fans that have come to the U.S.
48:03have pretty much enjoyed American culture and American fans.
48:06Pilgrimages to Buckees? Somewhat not complete assholes to all the international fans.
48:09Well, it's like, are they laughing at us or with us?
48:12I don't know. Well, I think the influencers were laughing with us.
48:16Is it like patting us on the head like, good job?
48:19I'll take it. I'll take it. Influencers that were paid to pretend that it was organic were laughing with us for money.
48:25And then they actually did convince a lot of people to go to Waffle House and Buckees and they're laughing at us or love it.
48:33Have you guys been to Buckees? No. Buckees is the craziest place.
48:36Buckees really is the place. What is the Buckees?
48:39I've never heard of that. Buckees is the most Texan place.
48:42So Buckees is a Texas-based gas station. Oh, is that with a really long, huge line of gas?
48:47Yeah, it's Buckees will have literally like 40 to 50 pounds.
48:50And it's closer to like a really, really small Walmart than it is to like a big gas station.
48:55Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I've seen these. It is crazy.
48:58And they're like a phenomenon. And they've expanded outside Texas.
49:01And people like, the most Texas brands are like Whataburger and Buckees.
49:05And it really is a truly like American creation to make a gas station like a mecca of culture.
49:10But it is incredible that like that's where they're going.
49:13It's hilarious. I was less leaning towards Europeans being in awe of Buckees and more just like I've seen a lot of
49:19videos of, you know, English people, French people, Europeans and people from all over the world coming in and being like, oh, American fans were great.
49:27Like great vibes, great energy. Everyone was super nice.
49:29I'll take that. Do you think? I don't really.
49:32The Buckees thing. I don't know. Do you think the Europeans?
49:35Like, I feel like one of the more jarring parts of America when you show up is just the fucking size of our parking lots.
49:42Do you think they're just like. And the roads, dude.
49:45I mean, think if you live in fucking Europe and you show up and you're like, holy shit, MetLife, there's like 100,000 people that can park here.
49:53It's because the stadiums haven't been here for whatever.
49:55The cities haven't been here for a thousand years.
49:58Well, nothing's changed from when they got here 500 years ago.
50:01They showed up and they're like, there's so much land here.
50:04And then they come and they're like, there's still so much land.
50:08We'll never run out of land. We can make a massive parking lot.
50:11The memes of like the European mind could never comprehend.
50:14You can start in North Carolina, drive nine hours and still be in North Carolina.
50:19Yeah. So good. It just. Oh, yeah. Like European drive from LA to San Francisco.
50:23A lot of land in between those two cities.
50:26A lot of nothing. You can just go from London to Paris in that amount of time, basically.
50:31Oh, my God. Yeah. And then the last thing, the ref camera.
50:34Outrageous. Pretty cool. So humbling. And I think humanizes the refs in two seconds more than I felt humanized the refs in 10 years.
50:41Seeing players scream at refs for a call that was like indecipherable.
50:44I like it's just how they missed that. And then you watch ref cam.
50:48I'm like, yeah, that's really hard. I see how they missed that.
50:52Heifetz is always on the side of the refs.
50:55No. VAR, though, I've been radicalized. He's a rep defender.
50:57VAR is bullshit. VAR has been. I'm radicalized against VAR for the little ticky tacky.
51:02Like your elbow is 10 millimeters outside. So that cool goal doesn't count.
51:05Shut the fuck up. It's not how it works.
51:08And it's also fake precise. The little graphic they show up.
51:11There was a great. Oh, I'm sorry. I don't remember.
51:14It's a famous podcast. They like a couple like guys with science backgrounds.
51:18We're talking about. A couple of nerds. A couple of nerds, but they're smart nerds.
51:22Did a great breakdown of basically the idea of like the whole little graphic they show up for the VAR where the
51:28elbows in red and everything else in green. That's like so fake precise.
51:32It's not that accurate. Like there's a margin of error and the idea that it's like a foot.
51:37And if the pretending that you like are a quarter of an inch off sides when in reality, like it's just not how it works.
51:44It's like spotting that football. I still don't understand how in tennis they can just zoom in on where the fucking ball hits.
51:51Well. Down to the fuzz on the ball. And it's like cameras.
51:54I think if you. I have a conspiracy theory.
51:57Like if I watch. So Wimbledon was the last one to adopt it.
52:01And French Open still hasn't. I really think there were a couple that players were kind of like what I think that
52:07Hawkeye is not as accurate as they claim to be 100% honest.
52:11I like learning more about it and how it works.
52:13And especially learning how VAR works where I won't pretend to walk you through the math, but it's interesting.
52:19Basically, if you look at frame rates on cameras and just like if a player is running full speed and then the
52:25balls on someone's foot, it's like in reality, there's a margin of error of like a foot.
52:30And they're pretending like it's perfect. I think Hawkeye though is it's I don't think it's like 100% accurate.
52:36You just have to trust it. Yeah. You're trading the judgment of one thing for another that's more accurate.
52:41But the idea that it's infallible, I think, is actually like a myth.
52:45I mean, it does probably matter more in tennis than any other sport because like there is literally no other way to know.
52:51Like you have to have some super camera figure that out because even when you're playing tennis, even if you watch the
52:58ball land in front of you, sometimes you can't even tell.
53:01Yeah. This is an un-American thing to bring up, but there's an incredible Ringer article about Milorad Kavich, who is the guy
53:07who lost to Michael Phelps for the eighth gold medal in the Olympics.
53:11I remember when they took the photo. Yeah. Yeah.
53:13And wasn't it by the distance of the nail hanging over your finger?
53:17It was one one hundredth of a second. Yes.
53:20So John Gonzalez tracked down Milorad Kavich on the 10 year anniversary and Milorad Kavich has spent 10 years looking into how
53:26do you measure one one hundredth of a second?
53:29And the answer is it is not as cut and dry as you think to have a machine measure one one hundredth of a second underwater.
53:36It's not as simple as it sounds. And there is a chance that that guy hit the thing first, but that Michael
53:42Phelps hit off the sensor first because it's like it's hard to capture one one hundredth of a second.
53:48So anyway, that makes me sad. I he's on this crusade to.
53:51But he like went down the rap. This guy spent.
53:54Everyone's like, buddy, we've moved on. I know. How do we tell him?
53:58He keeps DMing Michael Phelps articles. Christ. Anyway. OK, I want to talk about the NBA for a little bit.
54:04Not that much here because LeBron has leaving the Lakers with a statement, but then didn't go to the Warriors yet.
54:10And Greg, let me refresh Shams. Anything new? Shams, who looks like a robot going on sports air.
54:15What did he say? I'm told this is a happiness led decision for LeBron.
54:19He feels like he needs to find his happiness.
54:21Wherever he lands, it will not be driven by money.
54:24And he's like not moving a muscle while talking about this in SportsCenter.
54:28No, there's nothing. The Kawhi deal to Toronto is finalized.
54:31There's a couple of small deals. That's it. So, yeah, Craig, do you?
54:35It seems like the most likely teams for LeBron are just going to the Warriors with Steph and Draymond going back and
54:41maybe the trade for Anthony Davis going back to the Cavaliers or going back to the Heat.
54:46You're a Warriors fan. Yeah. You don't want LeBron James.
54:49That's correct, Danny. Go on. You have the floor.
54:51I don't deny that it would be fantastic content.
54:54I think like it would basically be like a mini Olympic team traveling around all year and Steph and LeBron being on
55:00the same team and whatever other star they get, Draymond.
55:03That'd be really fun to watch. I just, it is as simple as LeBron James in a Warriors jersey don't work for me.
55:10I can't, I don't want it. It's weird. It does not feel right.
55:13I don't want, I hate at the end of like when it's like the fifth series in a movie.
55:19Uh, when I, it's like, when it's like the fifth installment in a movie franchise and it's like, uh, we're just going
55:25to have the bad guy the whole time actually join the good guy now.
55:29Yeah. Like fast and furious. Yeah. It's like, I don't, I don't, they should not be on the same team in my opinion.
55:36Like I just, the feeling of that, the vibe of that is wrong.
55:39They are, they are career adversaries and I know they're friendly and they've been friendly for a while now.
55:45It was testy 10 years ago when they were in the finals every year.
55:49I know they really respect each other now. I know LeBron has openly talked about loving playing with Steph in the Olympics, all that stuff.
55:56And Draymond and LeBron are legitimately friends. They're great friends, all that.
55:59And again, like I'm sure it would be super fun to watch.
56:03Feels like you're talking me into it now. I just don't want it.
56:07If it was, if they were going to win a ring, I would still say, I would rather Steph not win a
56:13ring without LeBron than win a ring with him.
56:16However, hold on, back up. If I had to spin zone this, if I had to talk myself into it.
56:21He's already doing it. Well, I'm just saying, if this does happen, I would think a couple things.
56:26I would think, well, LeBron had to come to Steph.
56:29You know what I mean? Steph didn't have to go to LeBron.
56:33LeBron came to Steph. Pathetic. I would be like, LeBron is joining Steph's team.
56:37And if they win the title, it's LeBron came to Steph because he, that's how he felt like he could win the title.
56:43So Steph greater than LeBron. I think you should want it for that reason, Craig, is it's win-win because it's, I mean, if it fizzles out, who cares?
56:51But it's like, it's a little pathetic and desperate.
56:54My question, DK, you don't follow the NBA as much.
56:57You're getting back into it, I think. But my question.
57:00I'm semi getting back into it in anticipation of the Sonics coming back.
57:03But that's good because I think you're out of NBA discourse.
57:07And I like the purity of your answer here.
57:09Considering that LeBron, how many finals in a row did LeBron play versus the Warriors?
57:13Like it's this like defining adversary, basically. Uh, 15, 16, 17 and 18.
57:17So far. That's crazy. So DK, if LeBron went to the Warriors and won, considering like Kevin Durant went to the Warriors,
57:24won a title, and it almost made him more controversial.
57:26Right. Like LeBron going to the Expendables version of the Warriors, where they're all old and hurt, but still basically like it's still Steph and Draymond.
57:34And then they won a title. Do you think LeBron would, everyone would be like, cool, LeBron, five titles, won a ring everywhere you went.
57:41Great job. Or people would be like, oh, you ring chasing little bitch had to go to Steph.
57:46It would almost make it worse. It's the Larry David meme where he's just like.
57:51Well, because if they win the title is like, I'm just picturing Jordan getting up on, you know, the scores table and
57:57like pumping his fist into the crowd. I'm like, if the, if LeBron and Curry won the finals, it'd be like, yeah, they should have.
58:04It's not like some great accomplishment. Well, they're both like 40, but.
58:07I know, but this is like, this is where my mind takes me immediately.
58:11Like it just does feel a little fraudulent. If you spin zone it for LeBron, the take is every team he went to, he won a final.
58:19He kept changing teams, kept winning finals. How cool is that?
58:22Winning a title is probably an accomplishment. He's carrying the team on his back.
58:26Oh, it's like he goes to Miami, wins two titles.
58:29Then he goes to Cleveland, wins a title. He goes to LA, wins a title.
58:34A year in Golden State, wins a title. That would be also a very pro LeBron argument.
58:38If I were to be making that, which I'm not.
58:41It's, it is the Darren Revelle. Like it's, it's, it's, it's tremendous content.
58:45You know, it's, it's, um, I don't think they're going to get Anthony Davis.
58:49I don't see how the wizards would do that.
58:52Like, I don't, why would they want 37 year old Jimmy Butler?
58:55There'd have to be like a third team involved.
58:58But if anything, I think it would be just LeBron and they keep Jimmy Butler would be my prediction.
59:03But I don't know. I don't know where else it's like, I guess he could go to Cleveland.
59:08Cleveland? That would probably be my second guess. Cleveland makes the most sense in that, like he's accomplished everything he needs to accomplish.
59:15And there's Danny Chow had a great take on this for the ringer this week, which is if LeBron goes to Cleveland, it doesn't matter what happens.
59:23Like he just, he went home and it's at this point, I mean, we're approaching 25 years of LeBron in the NBA.
59:29Like just going to Cleveland alone is probably a good ending for him.
59:33No matter. Like it's the only place that he could go age poorly and it would be lovely.
59:38Well, and it just being in the Jersey. If he goes back to Cleveland, he's, he immediately is the biggest star on
59:44the team and is like the center of everything.
59:47If he goes to Golden State, it's not really like that.
59:50Maybe he doesn't care about that. If he goes to, I don't see Miami at all.
59:54Like I don't, I'm going with Miami. Is it weird though to be with James Harden?
59:59Cause now you're going to strip clubs with your son.
60:02Like is that weird? I have to imagine Harden wouldn't be on that team, but, but I, didn't they just extend him?
60:08I don't know. Wait, so is Bronny, did his contract guarantee with the Lakers yesterday?
60:13So like is Bronny a Laker or is he going to?
60:16He waited to the day after. Apparently LeBron waited to the day after Bronny's contract guaranteed for 2.3 million to say.
60:22Dad of the year. Pretty good. Wow. Bronny, Bronny needed the money.
60:25You know, he doesn't have any money coming his way.
60:28You just give him a four. He's just given rights to like some foreign minerals in Kazakhstan.
60:33Is, can I ask a question about LeBron? And this is again, someone who doesn't, I didn't really follow the NBA closely.
60:39Why doesn't he just retire? I guess he's still playing at a high enough level.
60:44He's a top 20 player. He averaged 25 a game last year.
60:47He beat the Rockets in a series. He won a playoff series without Luka Tosh.
60:51That's correct. At 40, whatever. DK, let me look right now.
60:54He didn't average 25. 21. He averaged 21. But he, dude, he won a playoff game against the Rockets team that at
61:01one point was like theoretically the third best team in the conference.
61:04Yeah. I mean, I mean. And they had Kevin Durant.
61:07The year before last, 2024, the 24, 25 season when LeBron was 40, he averaged 24, seven and eight and was sixth in MVP voting.
61:14That's fucking. Well, there's my answer. That was the first.
61:17Michael Jordan at that age had been. Isn't he just tired?
61:20When do you get tired of the whole thing?
61:23Clearly. He just went to Scotland for a golf trip.
61:26You know, it's like the end is nigh. But I mean, Jordan came out of like GMing wizards to play with Kwame Brown when he was 39.
61:33You know what I mean? Like, I mean, obviously he had 20 years of.
61:37Is there a dark horse team that he's going to end up on that we that no one's thinking of right now?
61:44I mean, Bill floated San Antonio. Oh, God. Fuck.
61:46Get the fuck. They need an old guy. That would be that would be crushing.
61:51I feel like they would actually. Wow. That would be.
61:54When toward Brian Windhorst made a good point that you can speculate all these teams.
61:58Only one team has made a move that that felt deliberate to to making it work with LeBron.
62:03And that was Draymond opting out to sign a better deal so that they could afford to bring in LeBron is like
62:09the only move that a team has actively done that is to get LeBron.
62:13So I don't know if that if it's like at the three yard line and it's very close.
62:18But doesn't it? What do you want? Heifetz, do you want to see LeBron wearing a Warriors jersey?
62:24Do you not give a fuck? And you're like, who cares?
62:27Stefan LeBron. That would be fun. It's it's it's it's it's LeBron versus the Warriors.
62:31Like, I feel like he broke my brain. It's as it breaks my brain.
62:35LeBron versus the Warriors, I feel like, is my defining basketball experience.
62:39Yeah, I don't know why, but that feels four times in a row.
62:42It just was. And probably because it's the transition from from college to like working at the ringer, which obviously started to
62:49like that's when I started marinating in basketball. I mean, when I was an intern or editorial assistant, I remember one of
62:55the days I had to go to work. Bill had interviewed Kevin Durant, who hadn't slept holding the trophy and he was eating the bag of chips.
63:03But like I'm like going to work and I'm like doing the first interview.
63:07Kevin Durant's done. You know what I mean? It was just like a crazy time.
63:11And the idea that LeBron would join, it is like Larry Bird going to the Lakers or Magic going to the Celtics.
63:17It's a little crazy. I know. And but it would be incredible for content.
63:21But I mean, the Spurs is terrifying. The Spurs is like LeBron could actually get two more rings.
63:26Yeah. Or more. I actually haven't even thought of that.
63:29I don't know how the I have no idea the cap space or any of that shit works.
63:34I know. It's like if you think the NFL is confusing about like void years.
63:39These contracts aren't really guaranteed. The NBA, dude. Good luck.
63:42The NBA infuriates me in a couple of ways.
63:44First apron, second apron, mid-level exception. I mean, there is so much shit going on.
63:49The NBA can't get the draft picks to wear the right fucking hats because they're like, well, we wrote some rules.
63:55It's like, well, unwrite them. It's like it is impossible to watch the NBA draft and know who is going to what team.
64:01It is. It is so difficult. It's like, holy shit.
64:04So. So wait, what's your answer? Do you want LeBron to go to the Warriors or not?
64:09Honestly, I don't give a shit. I just think it's interesting.
64:12I think the Warriors is the most interesting. The Knicks won the finals.
64:16Like it's the first year ever where I'm like, I don't care.
64:19The Knicks won the. I think probably. Yeah. The Warriors.
64:22Cause I think it's not threatening. The Spurs. I'm like, I actually think this.
64:26I don't think the Knicks could beat the Warriors.
64:29The Spurs. If they had LeBron, to be honest.
64:31Like if everyone is healthy, I think. I don't think anyone could beat the Spurs.
64:36If LeBron went there, the combination of playing and knowledge that he would bring.
64:40Also, like people are like, well, LeBron likes playing in LA.
64:43Does he really want to live somewhere else? I'm like, who cares?
64:46That's stupid. It's like, it's please. Anyway, I, he, yeah.
64:49All right. Probably the worst. Like he's building a hundred million dollar compound in Beverly Hills.
64:54I'm like, yeah, but I mean, what? He's not going to go play in Cleveland for six months?
64:59Dude, JJ Reddick lived in Brooklyn and commuted to Philadelphia for the Sixers for like two full years.
65:04Yeah. Like it's fine. Yeah. And just like, you know, he's not moving there for, he's not committing 10 years there.
65:10He'll go there for like eight months. Okay. So, uh, I can't wait to rewind for Craig all his, I don't want LeBron.
65:17He's already, he's already talking himself into it. Oh, I'm not.
65:20I can hear it. I would like to plainly say that I do not want him playing next to Stefan.
65:26Wait, so I. Bad. At the risk of beating a dead.
65:29Well, no, I can do it if this actually happens.
65:32But, um, did I ever tell you guys that I covered the, he was supposed to appear the day he signed with
65:38the Lakers at a Blaze Pizza and that he didn't show and I was there.
65:42Oh yeah. Wait, I actually think I did. Who, LeBron?
65:45You were pissed, right? Didn't you wait for a long time?
65:48No, it wasn't me. Well, I was covering it for the ringer, but the crowd turned.
65:53So he was supposed, there was a. He's an investor in Blaze Pizza, right?
65:57Yeah. There was a very heavily circulated rumor that he was going to appear.
66:01Turned into a mob. It was at the Grove, right?
66:04Oh, uh, that's sound. I don't remember which one it was probably.
66:07And it was. Mall in LA. There were hundreds and hundreds of people at the strip mall for in line.
66:13And it, and it was like the crowd turned and it was like, it was like shooting fish in a barrel because it was just 400.
66:20And the point was to like, you know, get the temperature of Lakers fans.
66:24And it was to me like an anthropological study because I did not understand that there were Kobe fans and there are Lakers fans.
66:31And they're different. Like there are like Kobe fans care so much more about Kobe Bryant.
66:36That they do about the Lakers. And I, it was cause I had no idea until I talked to hundreds of people
66:42that Lakers fans kind of didn't give a fuck that he was coming.
66:46Yes. I mean, the same way that we're talking about how weird it would be to see LeBron in the Warriors.
66:52That is how it felt when he went to the Lakers.
66:55It was like, they had just hated him and they had dug in and like, I, half the people were excited and
67:01half were like a little upset that LeBron was signing with them.
67:05And I couldn't wrap my mind around it. Yeah.
67:07Yeah. I completely agree. Anyway. Okay. All right. A couple emails.
67:11We'll get out of here. Emails. And again, thank you to the members.
67:14We're going to start doing the hot quarterback unveiling starting next week after the 4th of July.
67:19We're going to go twice a week. Stick with us for fantasy.
67:23Almost kicking the high gear boys. We're coming up on two months till the season.
67:27Wild. So I want to start emails. When we covered the Miles Garrett trade a month after it happened, we were wondering
67:33if he was like the best athlete ever traded.
67:36Yeah. So I got an email from Casey. I like that Bill.
67:39They couldn't do an emergency on something because they didn't think it justified it.
67:43So they called it an urgent gathering, which I really liked.
67:46Urgent gathering. What's our urgent? What kind of gathering is it when we do Miles Garrett trade a month later?
67:52A month late? Overdue gathering. I don't know. It's like we T-voted or something.
67:56Dude, I don't know how we went backwards. T-voting was great.
67:59Streaming is tough. But anyway, Casey writes breakfast was a yogurt parfait with strawberries and granola.
68:04Nice. Healthy. I made homemade oatmeal today. We'll talk about it later.
68:07Okay. Should we do it now? Steel cut. I haven't made oatmeal in a long time.
68:12How do you make oatmeal? Because it was steel.
68:14I milled the oats myself in a field. No, you buy it.
68:18What do you mean? You buy the oats and you boil it in water.
68:22What do you mean? How do you make oatmeal?
68:25I know what he means. Homemade oatmeal implies. Homemade oatmeal.
68:27Yeah. It sounds like you made it. I don't know.
68:30Californians do weird shit, man. I would decay. You said homemade oatmeal.
68:34I'm sorry for anything. I made my own oats.
68:36Yes. I was wondering. I was like, what do you need a homemade oatmeal?
68:40You're like farm to tabling it or something. No, I feel like the casual is like you have the packet that you put in the microwave.
68:48I did like the old school on the stove thing.
68:51Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah. That's cool. Yeah. I don't have a wheat farm.
68:54It's just got a scythe out. Honestly, though, I hope to one day.
68:58That sounds sick. I'd love to go around for it.
69:01You're like, you're going to do the gladiator thing and just walk through the wheat field with your hands on the side.
69:07During the pandemic, I tried to like eat healthier.
69:10So I was like overnight oats. So I just made oatmeal and I left them out overnight.
69:15Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. You already cooked. Yeah. That's fair.
69:18I think you're just you're just full of bacteria.
69:20Overnight oats. Like because you don't cook. You just soak the oats, raw oats in milk, which is kind of confusing.
69:26So I just seems insane. Yes. Yes. I think that's I was like, surely that's wrong.
69:31Shall we go on to the email? Yeah, whatever.
69:33Parfait. Everybody loves parfaits. Everybody loves parfait. Oh, I just a Shrek.
69:37I didn't tell you guys about it. They're going to make a.
69:40Oh, I saw the pics. We'll do it. We'll do it.
69:43Donkey spinoff. Did you guys see that? Fuck, really?
69:46Dude, I just watched. I did dress a Shrek and run down.
69:49Oh, yeah. Eddie Murphy. I did that. Cool. Do you want to do this email?
69:54That'll tell you about the Shrek run. Yeah. Yeah.
69:56I got a couple of people reach out to me about your Shrek photos.
70:00So we'll do that. So I want to do this email.
70:04OK. I feel bad when we just go into like a.
70:07No, you're right. That's the one fault with the breakfast thing.
70:10I got to shut up, listen to the breakfast.
70:12And then we got to get to the. Here's the thing.
70:16You could you could start reading it. No, that was on me.
70:19I cut it. Casey. Anyway, Casey's right. This is the most humble.
70:22This is the most correct email. I just correct email I've ever seen.
70:26Miles Garrett is the second best athlete ever traded in his prime.
70:30You guys said he might be the best. Casey says, I hope I'm not the first person to email this in, but
70:36the best athlete ever traded in their prime is Wayne Gretzky.
70:39And it's not even close. Wayne Gretzky. When he was traded to the Kings.
70:43The great one. Yeah. Wayne Gretzky. I didn't. I feel like I didn't know this.
70:47First of all, there was a 30 for 30 on this, an early 30 for 30.
70:52And I didn't realize the depth of this. Wayne Gretzky.
70:55Wayne Gretzky. So I can't say his name. One more time.
70:58Wayne Gretzky, captain of the four time Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers, was already the best player of all time on the
71:04best team at the time and was traded. The traded immediately after winning their fourth Stanley Cup.
71:09And he was the playoff MVP. I'm already mad at the Oilers.
71:13Why'd they trade him? Apparently the owner was low.
71:15What the fuck are you doing, Oilers? The owner was low on money, bro.
71:19I don't know. He wanted to cash in. He needed money.
71:22And so that crazy. Low on oil. Yeah. Low on oil.
71:26Oil was low. So at the time Wayne Gretzky was traded, he had won the Stanley Cup four times.
71:31He was the regular season MVP eight times. He had led the NHL.
71:35Eight times? Eight times. He had led the NHL in points seven times.
71:38He was voted by NHL players as the most outstanding player this season five times, was the playoff MVP twice, and even had gotten a sportsmanship trophy.
71:46He's a good guy. Eight time MVP, four time chantry.
71:49You know, kids, that was the one I was the most proud of.
71:53You know what, though? You know what's kind of a fuck you?
71:56They won the Stanley Cup two years after they traded them.
71:59The Oilers did? Yeah. Oh, it worked. Kind of sick.
72:02I did not know that. Kind of awesome. So maybe Gretzky overrated?
72:06Gretzky. It was fine. Derek Thompson and Russillo did a pod.
72:09Ewing theory? Gretzky theory. That's funny. Derek Thompson and Russillo did a pod once where they tried to find what's the best
72:15sports stat, and they both unanimously agreed it was if you took all the points.
72:19If you took all Wayne Gretzky's goals away, he would still lead NHL in points.
72:24Is Ovechkin close to beating him? No. So Ovechkin overcame him.
72:27So in hockey, you get some, what is it, a half point for an assist?
72:31Yeah. I think. So it's a goal. So Ovechkin has to give him goals.
72:35I answered confidently. I did. Yeah. It's less than a goal.
72:38Whatever that is. The Bills of a Dome? I want to say you get two for a goal.
72:44I want to say you get two for a goal and one for an assist.
72:48And I have not looked that up. So. Great.
72:50Wayne Gretzky, I think it's 1,800 assists, and the guy behind him is 700 off for second place.
72:56It's like Jerry Rice in receiving yards. It's like the guy in second place is like 40% behind him.
73:01What did the Oilers get for Gretzky? Was it?
73:04I don't know. What's the 30 for 30? Gretzky trade.
73:07I mean, I could look it up, but I don't know that these players.
73:11They got Jimmy Carson, Martin Galinas, 15 million in cash, and then three first round draft picks.
73:15I don't know what that fucking means. Also, I think it's you get one point for a goal or an assist.
73:21Is it the same? Well, that's what I'm seeing.
73:24But Craig really confidently said. Don't you spend that on me.
73:27Look, we didn't know Wayne Gretzky got traded in his prime.
73:30We didn't know how the point system works in hockey.
73:33All right. I definitely. I don't know shit about soccer, and I know more about soccer than hockey.
73:38I don't think I even understood how icing worked in hockey until like three years ago.
73:43Okay. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute.
73:46Am I wrong? No, no, no. Sorry. Wayne Gretzky never won a ring with the Kings.
73:50Seems so. Yeah. I'm seeing that as well. So the Oilers traded away the greatest player of all time.
73:56The team that got him never won. And the team that gave him up won two years later.
74:01Hmm. Interesting. Good trade. I mean, can you not say that?
74:04This guy was cooking. Is that not literally a good trade based only on outcome?
74:09Yeah. So you think the Browns are going to win before the Rams?
74:12I hope that's what you're telling me. I don't know.
74:15I mean, I know I'm wrong. But also like.
74:18What do you mean? What year did they win that you're talking about?
74:21Who? They did win two years later. That's crazy.
74:24They won in 1990, and they traded him in 88.
74:27And the Kings never won with him. This is a good bit.
74:30We should just discover all of hockey history. LA got to him.
74:34LA. I mean, he's a Canadian. A Canadian boy.
74:36Went to LA. LA ruined him. He never won a ring after that trade with any team.
74:41We just like discover hockey. This is a good bit.
74:44I always think it's. I truly like Wayne Gretzky is a great example of.
74:48I just find it so fascinating when people. The rare athletes, the rare people in every sport.
74:53There's like one in every generation or maybe less where they're just so clearly.
74:57Like it's a messy thing. So clearly better than everyone else in the world.
75:01Yeah. And I mean, Gretzky, obviously in his prime, you hear so many stories about.
75:05And he wasn't even a big guy. He had to have, you know, enforcers on the team sort of protect him because
75:12he was sort of a short skinny guy. Messy too.
75:15So good. Yeah. I mean, Messy had to take like human growth hormone as a kid because he was so small.
75:21But I think it's so fascinating. Just the, you know, it's like, I guess the word is talent that he had.
75:27It's just, he's so good at the game. He knew where to be at all times.
75:31He knew how the spacing worked. He just like could see in the future, basically where everybody was going to be.
75:37And he was so much better than everyone else.
75:40I'm always just so fascinated. How does that happen?
75:42And we've talked about this with Katie Ledecky. How is she so much better than everyone?
75:47It's just crazy. But the Ledecky thing, I feel like has not been explained to me.
75:52Ledecky, I forget the exact thing, but that event she's great at.
75:55I don't know if it's a thousand meters or 800 where the 18 of the top 20 scores are all time or just her.
76:02How could anyone be? That's crazy. It's wild. I think it's fascinating though.
76:06Anyway, Gretzky fascinates me. Just a skinny, small guy from Canada who became the great, the great one.
76:11The best hockey player of all time. Questionable trade.
76:13Really? Why'd they trade him though? I'm mad about this.
76:16We should see if anyone's made a documentary. It makes me mad that they were rewarded for that trade.
76:22Okay. Another email here. This email is from Jane.
76:24Jane. J-Bone. Breakfast was toast with eggs, greens, chili crisp, red cabbage, sweet corn, and parm with an Americano.
76:30That's an amazing breakfast. Good God. That sounds amazing.
76:32Fantastic. Wow. It's great. Chili crisp. Chili crisp is really elite.
76:35Elite. Yeah. So the subject line in this email is from Jane is why lesbians love Joe Burrow.
76:41Oh yeah. Yeah. And if you are caught, if you're catching up, I discovered we'll do the hot quarterback ranking.
76:46I had multiple lesbians. Like at this point, we went from half a dozen to over a dozen lesbians reach out, all
76:53confirming that like Joe Burrow is disproportionately attractive to lesbians.
76:55We had a baker's dozen lesbians reach out. But at some point, it's a pattern.
77:00So Jane writes, I have many thoughts on why Joe Burrow is so popular with lesbians.
77:04For context, Jane says, I'm a rugby player. So I both am a lesbian and I know a lot of lesbians who are into sports.
77:12So I think Joe Burrow being attractive to lesbians boils down to that lesbians love a man who seems a little pathetic.
77:18I gotta be honest. A little. I did not think that's where that was going.
77:22A little pathetic. Jane writes, Joe Burrow has an aura of emasculation and that really plays with the lesbians.
77:28It's part general vibe, part Joe Burrow's ill-timed injuries, and part him having to fight the uphill battle of making up for his shitty defense.
77:35It's easy to feel bad for the guy. And Jane finds that that is an important ingredient in the man who lesbians find attractive equation.
77:42What? Jane then writes, Joe Burrow is also the quarterback who looks most like a lesbian, kind of like the way that
77:48Leo DiCaprio looks like a lesbian in Titanic. And then she linked to something.
77:52And I see now, I didn't know this, but apparently Leo DiCaprio in Titanic is a lesbian icon.
77:57Didn't know that. Didn't know that either. But I went down a wormhole and it is in fact the thing on the internet.
78:04So it's, I mean, it's like clean cut, pretty boy, long hair, you know?
78:08I don't know. I'm just reading the email. There are, someone else said that.
78:12Can we convince the people that wrote to tell, to explain this Leo thing too?
78:16Yeah. No. If everyone wants to explain the Leo thing, I Googled it.
78:20It is not something Jane made up. It is a real thing that like.
78:24Well, Leo transcends all sexuality. And, you know, I feel like everybody in the world was like, Leo.
78:29Yeah. Do you know how? Yeah. Would. Dude. Again, it's, see, I Googled it.
78:33There's a Reddit thread. As a teen, I was in love with Leo and Titanic.
78:38As an adult, I can appreciate him. Sorry. This is the Reddit late bloomer lesbians.
78:42As an, like, yeah, it's just, I don't know.
78:45Apparently this is a thing. I'd never heard of this, but then I go, it is a thing.
78:50I mean, honestly, that's a pretty, that's honestly a win for Burrow if he's now in the same category as Leo.
78:56Right. Only good things. Like the heartthrob of America for like 10 years.
78:59Joe Burrow is in the same conversation. Yeah. That's good.
79:02I'll be curious to see where he, where he lands in the list.
79:06I very divisive figure. Oh, interesting. You're right. You know, I could see somebody ranking him 12th and then I could see
79:12a lot of people ranking him first or second.
79:15Yeah. I don't think Joe Burrow is last in a lot of people's rankings, but he's not like some unanimous number one.
79:21Yeah. I think that's right. Also, we were talking about the phrase tarps off and got an email from Kel.
79:27Speaking of soccer, when you win the game, score a goal, tarps immediately off.
79:31So Kel. Cabon. Cabon. Right. Breakfast overnight oats. Scoop of protein and M&Ms.
79:35I wonder if they left the overnight. M&Ms. Homemade?
79:37Homemade overnight oats. Kel wrote, not sure if they coined it, but the first time I heard tarps off was on the show Letter Kenny.
79:44One of the best shows of all time. A hundred percent.
79:48I agree. This is where I heard tarps off from.
79:50I don't know if Letter Kenny invented it. Is it a Canadian thing?
79:54Letter Kenny is a great show. It's really funny.
79:57It might've been a hockey thing, but Letter Kenny, kind of like a lot of phrases we use are actually kind of from the league.
80:04Was Wayne Gretzky using tarps off when he was growing up in Canada?
80:08I mean, maybe when he was in Edmonton. I don't know if he was on the Kings.
80:13When he was losing on the Kings. Yeah, he was losing on the Kings.
80:17Probably not. Not much to celebrate. Trying too hard to get in with the Hollywood elite.
80:21I know. Okay. Too busy acting in commercials. Get on the ice.
80:25No ice in LA. That's the problem. Also, no lakes.
80:27Weirdly enough. All right. This is another one. I meant to talk about this a week ago, but this is boys.
80:34I've been hiding this from you. Okay. Obviously, everyone remembers Jelly the Bear, the turtleback zoo in Essex County, New Jersey that was hiding a bear.
80:41And we got, quote unquote, confirmation that Jelly was, quote unquote, alive and not a replacement bear.
80:46They did an Instagram live where they really, they didn't mention us, but it was definitely because we said the bear was dead and had been replaced.
80:54Anyway, the turtleback zoo was evacuated last week after a black bear was spotted wandering inside.
80:58Oh, like not like a real, like a wild bear.
81:01A wild because the zoo is in a, in like a great park and like a mountain reservation.
81:06We'd always speculated that Jelly just escaped and then they accidentally shot him and then realized it was jelly.
81:12A black bear broke into the spray paint a different one.
81:15Exactly. Or like the zoo in the aquarium in China that had a fake whale shark.
81:19Oh, I didn't know about that. They're just spray painting it.
81:23But the, so I, a black bear broke into the zoo.
81:26Wow. And I was wondering if the black bear wanted justice.
81:29This is like the plot of a cartoon, like a Pixar movie.
81:32It is. I got to tell you, I went to the zoo in Sweden.
81:36I didn't tell you guys about this, but I had an amazing day.
81:40Katie Baker and I, Austin, Carlos Kai. He didn't text us that he was having the best day of his life.
81:46We went to a Swedish zoo. Hey guys, hope you're having a good Tuesday.
81:50I'm having the best day of my life. I see you're on a call right now.
81:55Enjoy. You guys should have came. I'm going to go up to the snow cone.
81:59See you later. So we went to the Swedish zoo and it's funny.
82:03Well, what's the name of the Swedish park? The zoo in Sweden.
82:06Okay. I went to the American zoo. I'll fucking pull it up then.
82:10Fine. Smart guy. I'll pull up, pull up the name of the whole thing.
82:14Smart guy. It is incredible. It is called shit.
82:17Is it Colmarden wildlife parks? Skansen. Oh, Skansen. It's an open air museum, but it's a giant area.
82:22It's a part like a fjord. It's like there's animals.
82:25It's an amazing open air park. It's like a whole island really.
82:28And the same way like those Nordic prisons are really lovely and like it seems like they're lovely.
82:33Like we go to an American zoo and it feels like animal prison.
82:37And the Swedish zoo felt like a Swedish prison as in lovely.
82:40And I could live here myself. It was such a lovely atmosphere.
82:44Free food. All right. It was just great, man.
82:46It was such a better. It was such a better zoo.
82:50Explain the difference between that and like an American zoo.
82:52It was so quaint. It's like the bars were like made out of wood and it just felt like the animals had enough space.
82:59And I saw moose. The cages were less safe.
83:02Less hard. The animals don't want to go. I don't know.
83:05It was so lovely. They had moose and they had mooses.
83:08Moose. Moose. They had seals, pigs. They even had cats.
83:11It was great. I had cats in their zoo.
83:14They were shackling up cats. No shackles. That's the point.
83:16Why do they got cats there? I don't know.
83:19It was funny. They're free to go work during the day as long as they come back.
83:24They had bears. They're going to kill rats like at Disneyland.
83:27Oh, God. Did you go to the animated movie?
83:30The cats at Disneyland who Disney should make that.
83:32Ooh. They want to talk about all the rats at Disneyland?
83:35You want to advertise that? Maybe it's like they become friends or I don't know.
83:40There's something there. Disneyland. We have rats. The secret cats of Disneyland.
83:43Maybe they don't have to kill rats, but it's like the secret cats of Disneyland is interesting.
83:48The rats can be bad. They can be bad.
83:51It's like all the stadiums of cats. It's a ratatouille family and they cook for the cats.
83:55Catatouille. Catatouille. Catatouille. Ratatouille, too. It's cats now. It's cats now.
83:59That's good. Fuck. That's really good. It's cat-ening. Yeah.
84:01It's cats now. Damn, that's actually really good. Hyphens, did you go to the Vasa or whatever, the big ship?
84:07I want to go to Big Ship Museum, but I kind of realized I had already been there and I had my spiel about it.
84:14So I didn't go back to Big Ship Museum.
84:17Did you go to the ABBA? If you're in Stockholm, best museum at all.
84:21It's so good. Did you go to the ABBA Museum?
84:24No. I went to Scanson, which was a great time.
84:26I wanted to go to ABBA, but I couldn't rally a crew and we just didn't have time to tie it.
84:33It's a shame what our generation is about. I wanted to go to the ABBA thing, so I did Scanson.
84:38You couldn't gather a crew to go to- Well, sorry.
84:41I was too busy fucking watching the Knicks win the finals at three in the morning and I used my capital on that.
84:48You had to go see cats behind bars. Ridiculous.
84:50You have a cat. I love cats. I know.
84:53Is that kind of like cheating on your cat?
84:55It is like cheating on your cat. There's a book.
84:58Look, Joanna Robinson, I think her friend is writing a book about cheating on cats on vacation.
85:03It's like you're like- She's writing a book about that?
85:06Oh, the first cat that comes and rubs up against your leg?
85:10All of a sudden, now you're best friends with that cat?
85:13It's true. I see. It does feel a little risque.
85:16Okay. I can tell you about the Shrek run.
85:18I also got a great email about pirates. What do you guys want?
85:22Fuck it. Give me both. I need to hear about the Shrek run.
85:26Did anyone recognize you when you went out? No, I was worried about it, actually.
85:30You mean as Shrek? As Shrek. Hey, it's Shrek.
85:32I did dress up as Shrek. So again, for those who don't know, so I'm in the Dynasty League with some friends and they- I came in last.
85:40I'm not embarrassed by it because it's the third year of the league and I won the league the first year.
85:47He can't talk about this without saying he won.
85:49Yes. I bring it up every fucking time. Just say you got last.
85:53Professional credibility. I bring it up every fucking time because I won the league.
85:57I won the league again and then I had last place and I bring it up every time.
86:02Annoyingly good at fantasy. I'll say that. Well, I got you on my love, so fuck it.
86:07But I had to dress up so that you have to dress up as a character of the league's choosing and last
86:13year they chose Lord Farquaad and they were like, fuck it.
86:16Shrek is awesome. So this made me Shrek. They upped it a level.
86:20And- You put on green paint. You went to the fold.
86:23You looked great. Yeah. I tried very hard. So I bought the mask, as you guys know, and the last episode I
86:30think we- I put it on and unanimously, I think eight different people were like, you cannot wear that in public.
86:36The bars won't let you in. And I was like, well, that's the only rule of this thing is you have to get into bars.
86:43It's like literally the only rule. And so basically you have to go and hide in a- it's the biggest bar strip in DC.
86:50Did you go alone to the bar? Oh, you have to.
86:53I actually- It was controversial. Jackie showed up with me and- My anxiety.
86:57My social anxiety is through the roof on that.
86:59I don't like going anywhere alone. They basically ruled that Jackie couldn't come.
87:03And so she went home, which was brutal. Because she was like, well, I'm not- So- but it's like a long strip
87:09and it's- I don't know how many bars. There must be 30 or maybe that's low.
87:14There's so many bars. And I get a half hour head start and I have to go to a bar and they have to chase me.
87:21But every two- I forget, two or three bars they check, they have to get a drink.
87:26So you can't just like open the door. Like- Right.
87:29You have to be, you know, strategic about it.
87:32And I fucking nailed it. I broke the record for how long I hid from them.
87:36Because I'm drinking on their tab and then they like drink on my tab.
87:40It's a whole thing. What's funny is like by you winning, you just become a guy who gets increasingly more drunk sitting alone at a bar as Shrek.
87:48Yes. It's like you win, but you really lose.
87:51So I want to shout out- Did you like bring a book?
87:54Or were you just looking at your phone? I made friends- I'll shout out the bar.
87:59So it starts at this bar called Whitlow's, which is where we start every year.
88:03And it's basically from Whitlow's, which is at like U and 9th or something.
88:07And it goes all the way to like Exiles, which is the soccer bar in DC on like U Street and like must be like 18th.
88:15And I totally- And I fucked with them and I basically implied I would go to Exiles, which is the farthest edge of the boundary.
88:22And I walked one door down- Operation Mincemeat again.
88:24And I went in the first bar when you take a right.
88:28I went in the first fucking bar, which is called MK on U.
88:31It's a hookah bar that had a rooftop and the World Cup.
88:35Shrek- And I scouted it. And they had the rooftop bar and they had Shrek on.
88:40And because the first two- Because I obviously hadn't lost.
88:42So like you hunt for people the first two years.
88:45And the first year we did this, I was like, should we check this first bar?
88:50And everyone's like, no. The second year, I was like, why don't we check these bars?
88:54No. No one wanted to check the bars on the block.
88:58And so I was like, fuck it. And I went in the first door and then everyone walked 10 blocks or 20 blocks.
89:04It came back down and it was disgusting. And they were all sweaty.
89:08It was hilarious. Were you like Tobias Duque? And there's just green paint on the wall around you?
89:13On my light switches. Yeah, on everything. I am like Tobias Duque.
89:17There's green paint on the light switches, on my wallet, on everything.
89:20What was your solo experience like? Who did you interact with?
89:23What did people say? What were you doing? Great question.
89:26I went to hookah lounge. I want to shout out to Kimmy and Daron, who I sat with at the bar with
89:32a very patient bartender for 90 minutes. And we got and I had.
89:36Were you allowed to explain to them what you were doing?
89:39Obviously. Or you could get like arrested. I don't know.
89:42I'm like, yeah, of course I could explain it.
89:45But like, yeah, no, they were great sports about it.
89:48Honestly, Shrek is a very popular character. Universal, yeah.
89:50Everyone. Acceptance. Cars were. Dreamworks. When I was walking around.
89:53Dude. Yeah, that's a good point. Dreamworks. Cars. When I was just walking to the bar, cars were honking at me.
89:59That went over my head. It's funny. I see now what you did.
90:03Okay. But people were screaming at me in the sidewalk.
90:06I got out of a car and someone was like, get out of my swat.
90:10Like literally like just people. I felt like actually like an A-list celebrity.
90:14Like everyone was turning and looking at me and just talking to me.
90:17Every single person was like, no one did not acknowledge me as Shrek.
90:21I don't know if I've realized this, but I feel like Shrek might be the connective tissue between our two generations.
90:27I think it is. Because I was into Shrek when I, like, I loved Shrek growing up.
90:32First Shrek was like what? Or not growing up.
90:35Or something. When was first Shrek? And also parents, everyone's seen it.
90:38Like every, like Shrek is. 2001, first Shrek. I guess I was going into college at that point, but not growing up.
90:44But I loved Shrek. Yeah. Well, the tale of animated movies, like I feel like even through high school, like I would go see a good Pixar movie.
90:52You know what I mean? Even to this day, like I want to go see Toy Story 5.
90:58Same. I didn't realize there were so many Shreks.
91:00Like I watched Shrek 1 obviously a million times.
91:03I've seen Shrek 2, which I think is good.
91:05Was not, when they announced Shrek 5, which is coming in 2027, I kind of forgot that there was a Shrek 3 and a Shrek 4.
91:13Me too. I re-watched them for this event. And Shrek 1 is great.
91:16Shrek 2 might be better. And Shrek 3, I couldn't finish it.
91:20Rumpelstiltskin, who gives a fuck about that guy? I couldn't finish Shrek ever after.
91:24Out on Rumpelstiltskin. Fuck that. Do the Puss in Boots movies count as Shrek?
91:28Are those extra? I haven't seen them. I've heard great things.
91:31The cinematic universe. Apparently the second Puss in Boots is great.
91:34The SCU? Shrek cinematic universe. Should we add that to movie club?
91:38Are we going to do movie club? Should we make DK watch Transformers for next week?
91:42I'll watch Transformers. Movie club, Craig? Transformers? Sure. All right.
91:45We're going to do movie club for- Craig's the least excited about this because he does this whole other podcast.
91:51I don't know if you've heard of it. No, I just- No, no.
91:55We should totally do it. It'll be fun. July 8th.
91:57Well, maybe we'll get lucky. Maybe rewatchables will just happen to do Transformers 2.
92:01Like maybe, you know? That'd be sweet. No, we'll do the July 8th, 9th or whatever.
92:06We'll do the Transformers movie club. Sweet. Everyone else can rewatch it with us.
92:10If you want to rewatch it. Sorry. Not rewatch.
92:13That's not the word I meant to use. Can take part in watching it also.
92:17Watch first time. Let me see where- Are we going to talk about it next week?
92:22Transformers, for those curious, is on Hulu and Paramount Plus, if you have Prime.
92:26There we go. Okay, so not the most accessible movie we chose for the first one.
92:30Well, Hulu. Hulu. The- And if you join the Discord at some point, I'm going to try to like, we'll do a watch along in the Discord.
92:38Join the Discord. We're going to- The Discord's going to be great this year.
92:42Pop into our Discord, which is the episode description is linked to our Discord.
92:46Oh, DK, when LinkedIn- When fucking- LinkedIn. When Linkin Park comes in at the end, you're going to be- This whole thing's just a bitch.
92:53Fired up. You're going to be flying. Yeah. You're going to- Is it going to be weird watching Transformers and like Shia
92:59LaBeouf is all sort of innocent and- Shia LaBeouf?
93:02Sheepish. What'd I call it? What's his name? Shia LaBeouf?
93:05LaBeouf. LaBeouf. I think. I don't know. I've heard it pronounced different ways.
93:09What if I fucking said that? You're going to say, it's going to be hard for you to consume a piece of
93:15art knowing that the person doing the art has grown up to do bad things?
93:19I feel like I'm getting trapped here. No, I won't.
93:22I won't say that. I'm just saying like, yeah, yeah.
93:25Get in line. There's like- Also, like, you know, I can't listen to Kanye's music anymore.
93:30So what are we doing? You know? I've decided that I just won't listen to anything he did after Pablo, that he had a mental break.
93:37And before the rift, before the rupture, I still do it.
93:40And then after, I'm just like, whatever. Okay. That's how I feel about Shia LaBeouf.
93:44You can't look into anything. Like every celebrity you look into, you can find something bad.
93:49And then you're like, well, I guess I can't watch any of these movies anymore.
93:53I used to love the celebrity apprentice. I don't know what that guy's up to now.
93:58Yeah. Good show. I did actually watch it. Compelling and rich.
94:01Oh, really? I, I did. Oh yeah. Maybe seeing clips.
94:04Oh no, I watched it. Wow. Uh, pirates. Shia had it though.
94:07Let me, I just want to say it. Shia, there was a time when I, I thought he was the fucking guy.
94:14Even Stevens was unreal. He, he, he had such comedic talent.
94:17I thought he was a good dramatic actor. He was good looking kid.
94:21He had great timing, like had everything. I thought he was, he had a run there where he did Transformers, Eagle Eye,
94:27a movie I liked, Disturbia, good movie coming off even Stevens.
94:30They put, he was the next Indiana Jones. It was crazy.
94:33He did some cannibal stuff, which you're a huge fan of.
94:36Uh, that was in the hottest take. That was in the, the orb of the hottest take only.
94:42So that's basically the take. I'm just saying. Mm.
94:44Altruistic cannibalism. Altru, altruistic cannibalism. It's for a good cause.
94:47You coined that, correct? Like that's not like a term people use.
94:50Altruistic cannibalism. I don't believe it. I don't think so.
94:53We waste a lot of food. I'm happy to give credit to whoever that was.
94:58Don Draper. Altruistic cannibalism. It's toasted. Altruistic. Altruistic. I do think that's an important qualifier.
95:02Well, yes, it's the whole, it really hinges on that word.
95:05Okay. We should end the episode, but I really want to tell you guys something about pirates.
95:10All right. Let's hear this pirates thing. Okay. Is this just a pirates fact?
95:14Oh, sorry. I thought you were trying to move on to talk about pirates of the Caribbean as a potential next movie
95:20to watch, but always talk about pirates of the Caribbean.
95:23Yeah. How do you guys feel about the fact that sometimes it's the Caribbean, but then other times it's the Caribbean.
95:29I do feel a certain way. Caribbean. Like, Oh, I'm going to the Caribbean.
95:33You would not say I'm going to the Caribbean.
95:36It's Caribbean for modern, like the Caribbean is like where white people go for vacations, but the Caribbean is for pirates.
95:42Right? Like the pirates of the Caribbean doesn't hit pirates.
95:45No. It's Jack Sparrow. But you're not, I went to the Caribbean last week.
95:49What technically is the Caribbean? Like, what does that all include?
95:52What are the islands that it includes? I don't know that.
95:55It's the light blue water by Florida. Sure. Sure.
95:58I don't know the definition of where it ends.
96:00It's like, I actually don't know where the Caribbean ends and the Atlantic ocean begins.
96:04It's a geopolitical region in the middle of the America centered around the Caribbean sea in the North Atlantic ocean, mostly overlapping with the West Indies.
96:12So. What? Do with that what you will. Okay.
96:15Tell me the islands in the West Indies go.
96:17The West Indies. Uh, like St. Croix Turks and Caicos.
96:20St. Martin is the, let's check. Is the Bahamas in the West Indies?
96:24I don't know. Isn't the West Indies. Cause Christopher Columbus thought it was fucking India.
96:28Yeah. We never like updated that name. It's really West of India.
96:31There's a, there's multiple Indies. I can't believe that.
96:34Wow. There's 18 dependencies and three archipelagos, the greater Antilles, the lesser Antilles and the Lucayan archipelago.
96:39Let's see. Which ones are they? This is worse than when we were like, what is the United, what is great Britain versus United kingdom?
96:46And we, and we didn't realize how like the definition of, do you remember that?
96:50Yeah. Like, I don't, like, I don't think any of us realized that the queen was on the money for Canada and
96:57Jamaica until the queen died and they changed it.
96:59And we were like, what the fuck? Do you remember that?
97:02Like, we were like, wait, are you kidding me?
97:05There's a lot of islands in the West Indies.
97:08We don't need to go through all of them.
97:10Cuba. Stuff has happened, man. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of stuff has happened.
97:14All right. What, what's give me the, what go.
97:16What's sorry. Sorry. Alex wrote in breakfast, four scrambled eggs, a quarter cup of egg whites.
97:21Wow. Two English muffins and a black coffee. He must lift.
97:24That's a lot of eggs. Yeah. Alex says last year, my girlfriend and I visited Nassau in the Bahamas and stopped by the pirate museum.
97:31Ooh. Of all the pirate facts they shared, one has always stuck with me.
97:35According to the pirate museum, there is only one documented case of a pirate actually making someone walk the plank.
97:41Wow. Okay. And Hollywood just turned this into a defining pirate stereotype.
97:45And it's really just from like treasure Island. Interesting.
97:47There's like three or four or five documented cases, but like most of them aren't even pirates.
97:52So it was, so it was less of a, maybe they were just tossing people overboard.
97:57No sacrificial ritual. It was just like fucking get out.
98:00Oh, I know what they did. No, they would maroon you.
98:03Oh, I learned all about this. They would remove, maroon you, which is kind of like pirates of the Caribbean.
98:08I'm simply going to leave him in some easily escapable situation and just simply assume everything went to plan.
98:14What? Oh, just shoot him. No, no. I just watched Austin powers.
98:17The first one for like the first time in probably 15 years.
98:21The original. Yeah. It's so good. Did you see Austin or Mike Myers said that a fourth one might happen?
98:26Really? I saw them get together, but I assumed that was for a commercial.
98:31It was for a commercial. And then while he was doing press for it, they asked him if a fourth of what happened.
98:37And I think he said like it's in the works or we're planning it or something.
98:42Wow. Nice. I feel like Austin powers single-handedly derailed James Bond.
98:45Oh yeah. But that's for another one. Anyway. So the other thing they do, if they didn't like you, it wasn't walk the plank.
98:52They would tie a rope around you, real tight, take your clothes off and throw you over the front of the ship,
98:58drag you under it where there's all these barnacles that are razor fucking sharp.
99:02And they would basically bleed you out, drown you underneath the ship and let you be cut by little barnacles underneath.
99:08Which seems worse. That's, that's less cinematic than walking the plank.
99:11That's not altruistic cannibalism. No, that's, that's a waste.
99:14Really? Turns out pirates were kind of dicks. Yeah, dude.
99:17Well, it's pirates. We could go into pirates, man.
99:19It's nuts. Anyway, they didn't really walk the plank.
99:22That's honestly really interesting. I did not know that.
99:24Yeah. Cinematic. Whole thing. Basically, they also, you were hostage.
99:27They'd like do something with you. Julius Caesar apparently was at one point held hostage by pirates.
99:32Yeah. And then he killed them all later. Yeah.
99:35Jokes on them. He, he told them, I want to say like, he was super confident.
99:39They kind of liked him. They're like, he's, he was like, I'm going to kill you later or something like that.
99:45How does in the first half? And then they ransomed him.
99:49And then he, when he came into power, he killed him.
99:52He captured him and killed him. I could, I could be making that up.
99:56That was off the top of the. It's crazy.
99:58Like when Thomas Jefferson was president, they were like the biggest problems pirates.
100:02Well, that was a dude. They, that was like the privateers.
100:05They just, the government hired a bunch of pirates to go disrupt British shipping.
100:09Crazy. So. It's like the cat. Disneyland. A lot of stuff has happened.
100:13Uh, okay. All right. We should probably have the episode.
100:16Um, by the way, I'm reading this book about, uh, Wyatt Earp.
100:19Did you know that at one point he was a pimp?
100:22Yo, what? No. I just learned that very early.
100:25We just didn't have enough people. He was a pimp in council bluffs, Iowa or something along those.
100:30Council bluffs, Iowa. Yeah. Him and his brother verge.
100:33They were just out there. They were, what about jug?
100:36Uh, Morgan verge. He had a couple other. Why?
100:38I actually don't know anything about white earp. I don't know anything about white earp.
100:42That's what I'm learning. I'm learning. I think it's called, the book is called ride the devil's herd.
100:48It's about his, uh, famous. I don't know what you call it.
100:51Vendetta against the Cowboys, which was just that gang that was featured in a tombstone.
100:55And he, it apparently it was like, they kind of glossed over it a little in the movie.
101:01They just made it into a montage, but he like went after these guys and killed a whole bunch of them.
101:07Uh, wild earp. Interesting fella. Uh, have you seen tombstone?
101:09No. Oh, come on. Great one. I'll watch tombstone.
101:12Adding it to the list. I would, I would put that high on the list.
101:16I'll switch. Google saying like tombstone. And then like the movie doesn't come up.
101:20He's like an idiot. How do you even like get by in life without knowing any of the tombstone quotes?
101:26I feel like that's one of the most quoted movies of all time.
101:30Like when people say I'm your huckleberry, do you even know what they're talking about?
101:34Nope. Just found that out. Just no. Come on.
101:37Oh, is that what she's talking about in a, the pit?
101:40She keeps calling them huckleberry. I don't know. Maybe.
101:42I don't know. No, I, I'm not going to lie.
101:45I probably saw these guys. I might've thought these motherfuckers are from Deadwood for all I know.
101:50Damn it. I'll watch it though. I've heard it.
101:53Wyatt Earp is my friend. You're a daisy. If you do, you were just too high strung.
101:58Cause I feel like the rewatchables, you guys just made fun of me for every other episode.
102:03There's a movie I haven't seen. And then I just played right into it.
102:07So there's that. We should play a game called when's the last time Heifetz saw the movie we did on the rewatchable.
102:13Go down the list. I saw it in theaters at the Arclight.
102:16Okay. King. Not bad. DK still, still do you say?
102:19No, I watched that. I saw that. All right.
102:22So not bad. You got like, we'll take it.
102:24You somehow saw the movie from the sixties before all these other ones.
102:28Yeah. Cause that one's great. No offense to whatever these other ones are.
102:32Can't argue with you there. Some of them are not bad.
102:35Some of them are bad. Oh, we're done. Okay.
102:38Yeah. Thank God. Yeah. Let's just stop it there.
102:40No, I think the rest of them, we were really cooking for a couple of months.
102:45And I mean, most of these, I would imagine you've seen Ghostbusters, something about Mary, Chomp and Thunder, Borat, Animal House, Kindergarten Cop, Basic Instinct.
102:52You know, you've seen probably most of them. Actually, yeah, I have seen.
102:56I was thrilled that the Kindergarten Cop episode started exactly with the best line from the movie, which is, it's not a tumor.
103:02It's not a tumor. Get to the chopper. Yes, it's not a tumor.
103:06That's probably from Predator. That's definitely not from Kindergarten Cop.
103:09I'm just thinking of my Schwarzenegger, like, movie quote generator back in the day.
103:13They used to do on like, what was that?
103:15What was that? Were they prank call people? I know what you're talking about, but what's that shitty, the Iceman movie he's
103:22in, where he's like, he's like, you know what killed the dinosaur?
103:25The Ice Age. Like, you know, what's that shitty movie he's in?
103:29You're talking about when he plays Mr. Freeze? Yeah, yeah, Mr.
103:32Freeze. What movie is that? Yeah, Batman. Mr. The Ice Age.
103:35My friends tonight were quite a lot. Dominic, get down.
103:38Dude, Dominic, get down. Dude, I saw him. Who is your daddy?
103:41A month ago. And what does he do? I want to see if I can find photos of this.
103:47I saw him driving around LA, I'm like a giant, like, convertible tank looking thing.
103:51You saw him with your own eyes? With my own eyes.
103:54Wow. I think you could do a little, there should be a history lesson for people like Craig and Ice Age on
104:00how exactly that man became the governor of California.
104:03I'm a guy, you idiot. The governator being a thing is insane.
104:06He got reelected. I know. We've had multiple wrestlers.
104:09They called him the governator. Multiple wrestlers in this country have become governors, by the way.
104:14It's so real. It's such a, it's such a funny, it's such a crazy thing.
104:18Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I guess Jesse Ventura, who else?
104:21Yeah. I mean, at least Jesse Ventura was like actually a Navy SEAL at one point.
104:25The, the documentary, I think it's on Netflix, of Arnold is actually pretty good.
104:29It's three parts and it's like part one is about his bodybuilding career.
104:33Part two is his Hollywood career and part three is political.
104:36It's not, it's pretty good. That's wild. Two of the main actors in Predator became state governors.
104:41At least. I don't, maybe there's more. Oh, someone I know watched Predator the other day.
104:45Predator is an incredible movie for young people to watch because there's a disproportionate legacy of like memes.
104:51Oh yeah. I mean, you have the Carl Weathers handshake.
104:54Yeah. My brother, you son of a bitch. Yes.
104:56Someone had never seen it and they're like, oh my God, it's the handshake thing.
105:00Dude, I, I love the movie Predator. It's probably one of the movies I've watched more in my life than any other movie.
105:07Wait, that's the one where it's like, you are one ugly motherfucker, right?
105:11That's also just, it's really good, man. There's just, it's such a, every moment of it is a cliche, but it's so fucking good.
105:18I don't know. It's a great time when movies were both bad and good at the same time.
105:23Dylan, you son of a bitch. Oh yeah, Dylan.
105:25You know, we talk about like, Brady has three different Hall of Fame careers in one career.
105:30Kind of Arnold, dude. Totally. Bodybuilder Arnold, Hollywood Arnold, political Arnold, all Hall of Fame careers.
105:35The photo, I remember, because I think the, I think the first doc the Ringer Films did was Andre the Giant and
105:41the photo of Andre the Giant and Arnold in the 80s or what, I don't know what year it was, was like,
105:47it's like, it's like Andre the Giant holding Arnold Schwarzenegger.
105:50It's like kind of one of the most crazy photos.
105:53You know what I'm talking about? Oh yeah, yeah.
105:56Andre the Giant was huge. Oh yeah, it's him and Wilt Chamberlain on the set of, oh God, what movie would that be?
106:02It's Wilt Chamberlain, Andre the Giant and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
106:05Oh my God, yeah, Arnold looks so short. It's crazy.
106:08How tall is he? Like six, six two? Oh man.
106:11It's crazy. All right. Should we end the show?
106:13We should probably end the show. Yeah. Okay. Well, I know we're not going to episodes this week, but in exchange, this episode went really long.
106:21So there we go. We'll go two episodes a week starting after the 4th of July, start unveiling the hot quarterback rankings.
106:27Email us, teach us hockey history. LeBron takes pirates, whatever.
106:30Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. You be mad at me for movies.
106:33I haven't seen. Thank you, DK. Thank you, Craig.
106:35Thank you, Cam. Thank you, Abu. Thank you, Austin.
106:38Thank you, Nikhil. Thank you everyone for listening. Thank you to everyone emailed in.
106:42Thank you, of course, to all seven of our female listeners who are going to undermine.
106:47All seven of you. Thank you. All seven for submitting the rankings.
106:50But of course, thank you, Lord. Lord. Thank you, Wax Taylor.
106:53While we're on things, I don't know. Wow. I don't know who that is either.
106:57Look it up. I don't know a lot about him.
107:00I just have them on a bunch of playlists.
107:03They're like maybe early 2000s. Is he French? Why?
107:05Is that a picture of him? What is? Yeah.
107:08I don't know. Craig, are you going to say it?
107:11It's kind of like a hip hop electronic. He's got a big head.
107:15How dare you? How dare you, sir? I mean, I just, I don't know how to say it.
107:20Kind of like a really globish. It's really smooth, rounded head.
107:23Kind of perfectly. All right. All right. Looks nice.
107:26So he's bald. Okay. I mean, it's not the, no, that's not what we're saying at all.
107:30That is not what we are saying. Okay. I see pictures now.
107:34Yeah, that's what I thought. That's a head. It seems like a smart guy.
107:38Certainly not a way to get ahead in life.
107:40You did just watch. He did not keep one.
107:43That's not a time for someone to lose one's head.
107:46You go on like. So good. Elizabeth Hurley's like, all right, that's enough.
107:50Wax Taylor. Can you tell me anything? Is that what?
107:53Why did you pick it? I got nothing. I just like the music.
107:56All right. What is the music? I told you it's like electronic.
108:00Hip hop. DJ stuff. That's actually my favorite thing.
108:02It's good. You should listen to it. Is he like current?
108:05No, it was like mid early 2000s. Also my favorite thing.
108:09I think you would actually really like some of the music.
108:12No doubt. Are you going to defend it again?
